Nice August tag, Telemack! You are an oxen for climbing above and beyond the call of duty!! Nice views and snow, though, I am guessing. I've done that morning ski/afternoon broil before, a few years ago at Big Bear Mountain. 28 F at the top; 99 F. in Palm Springs. Way to get Month 143 in style...Postage Stamp, here we come ;-}.......
Good TR.  I was at Hood today and there is skinnable snow after 1200' hiking.  September 2 is the last day for lifts there until winter.
MW8888888 thanks for the correction. Sorry about that.
Awesome Peteyboy.... I got a bad knee injury playing ice hockey during the ski journey.....Managed to keep skiing.... But things got pretty sketchy on Mt Sahale on one of my trips....had to keep the knee in a certain position the whole day...to keep it in place....Thats why we get the big bucks?
My bad Telemack.... That is what I meant. And respects to fallen brother. Bob Wiebe. I have friend from my youth...who had a good nickname....that it got to the point where I forgot his real name.....Thanks for the laps.
Nostalgia about the end
The "patchers" reminds me fondly about how my own streak was brought to a chosen end.
My TAY partner for that time of life and I decided we would call it a streak the next summer when at sunset on September 30, two weeks after I had arthroscopic meniscectomy and I think less than 3 weeks after he suffered a recurrent high ankle sprain, we found ourselves trying to carefully ski the frozen semi truck hubcap sun cups off the top of Table without getting...
Hi Andy and Mike, that was me on the 31st!  Great to have some Patch Partners 8)
Telemon (Bob Wiebe) was a Canadian TAYer who tragically perished on Mt. Hood....
Looks like a great trip  :) makes me feel guilty for breaking the streak last month
Awesome. Thanks for sharing. With the summer skiing. I have realized it gets you too some great hikes....You may or may have not gone on otherwise....The skis on your back are a motivator....sometimes a sore back....but otherwise a motivator.
Hello!  I"m Brad and I'm new to the site, have 21 months under my belt though.

Looking for intel on your post, I'm considering something similar up at Timberline Lodge area August 31/Sept 1 timelines (At Mt. Hood I'm assuming you're talking aboot).

With the resort still running, do they get upset with people skinning up there (and I'm assuming you didn't pay for a lift ticket?).

Any good advice on where...
new to the board, first post!!!  Brad from Canada.  Looking to head to Mt. Hood for Aug 31/Sept 1 for a two-fer.  Never been there.  If anyone is up that way on that weekend drop me a line. I'll be on a solo mission.  Trying for month 22 & 23.

Possibly exploring around Mt. Baker on the 30th as well, depending on how the trip plays out.

Where is this "Paradise" that you've posted aboot? :)

Enjoyable read, loved the style.  Touched a couple nerves...Craig Kelly' Burton Air was the board that changed the world and Telemon's ghost lives.

I also vote September as the cruelest month.  At least in July and August you can find soft snow - easily.  September at altitude, well...timing around weather windows is everything for an enjoyable ski.  And hard to come by.
Thanks for sharing. And great running into Telemon.
Mr. T. Way to get after it!! I'm with you, NEVER sorry I went skiing.  Thanks for taking the time to post.  Have to disagree though I vote September as the cruelest month.
Sorry to miss the trip, work is not a good replacement for skiing!
Thanks a bunch for your post!!

Wow, that place is gorgeous! I need to visit. Never been. Looks like a nice amount of skiing too.

We got roughly 2000vft of turns  -- if we had been willing to hike out in the dark (or were faster) the Russell can be climbed another 1000vft higher.  We arrived back at the car at sunset -- for us slow pokes it was about 12 hours car to car.

Hey great report! Do you think the climber would have made it without your assistance?

Thanks! Hard to say. :/ but I felt some obligation to stick around after putting in fresh footprints to follow. Reinforced my idea that all of these Cascades should be attempted by their easiest routes first.
Way to pull off the two-fer. 🤘🤘
That works the two-fer. 🤘🤘 Daily double. Last to first.

Way to get after it - that's a long approach. I've skied around there a couple times in early July but never in mid-summer. The photo from May looks a lot more appealing for a skier, but I guess on the plus side at least you can see all the crevasses now!
Nice!

So this is another new lake that's not on the topo maps, yes?  Someone should begin a tally.

Is there a term used for skiing the last day of the month to the first day of the month?

I call it a two-fer

Great skiing with you for some laps. We got denied turns up a Rogers Pass. Drove all the way to Baker. We usually ski along Ptarmigan ridge for August. This zone skied well, nice corn. We pulled the double. Last day to the first day. Not recommended. Is there a term used for skiing the last day of the month to the first day of the month?
Nice snowfield..."Daniel you're the star, in the face of my eyes", Sir Elton. Way to tag August, Mike.
If I understand the location correctly, this patch is the result of slides, not snowfall accumulation. That means its longevity depends on avalanche activity during the previous winter, which doesn't necessarily correlate directly to measured snowfall amounts.

I am as full of doom and gloom as anyone, but I'm not sure that this particular data point is representative.

Awesome to ski with you. It was a great boost..... And super cool to initially spot you in the distance skiing. We decide to camp that evening and come back for August ski turns. First time doing the back to back. All of us were cutting it close.

...Hopefully there'll be enough leftover postage for September and October turns...

Gosh I don't know. Sounds like July 31 postage stamp is about as big as October 1 stamp last year. It was pretty small that day. Could the postage stamp disappear? I hope not!
Way to get those July turns, Mack! Hopefully there'll be enough leftover postage for September and October turns. And great fortune running into the Traslin's, legends who they are...Cheers!!

It sure is, mikerolfs! I validated it on Monday, July 29, for month 261. Still about 180' of vert, and the sunrise corn was a sweet treat to only have to walk 15 minutes from the car for!!!

first - super cool that you skied that great area. Looks like a sweet spot.
second - 261!? Holy Smokes! Your streak is old enough to drink!

Love the time lapse. I live in denial and choose to believe that next year could hold low snow through July.

That's a totally valid patch of snow!
Love that video snippet, thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the excellent photos
Bad news, good tour
no photos = fake news  ;)
@glowbug: Consider filing a wolf sighting report at WDFW Wolf Reporting Portal. I see there were 6 wolves reported near there on the 18th.
We were there on the 12th and briefly met Silas and a partner heading up. We counted near 40 goats crossing meadows and up in the cliff areas. Lots to eat if the wolves are wiley enough but I'd give the goats the advantage. Marmots or youngsters straying might want to be wary though.  If they're in that area, there are pickings to be had. Think by now there are stream crossings to contend with and we saw numerous lateral crevasses starting to yawn...it's getting sparse.

Maybe pack wolf spray...do they make that yet?  Or maybe pack some heat?

If it makes you feel better I guess?

Incredible story. Thanks for sharing!

How was the snow? Thinking about a trip up in the next few days.
Wow, indeed! Thanks for the report. This past winter I saw what appeared to be a wolf near Ashford.

I was a bit confused by "...they continued down into Edith Valley", tho, since Cowlitz Saddle & Paradise Glacier drain into Stevens Creek, while Edith Creek is a small tributary into Paradise River from the west.

Edit for clsrity
