Wow..that's right up there with the sick DOD video...thanks for posting.. that's a pretty long run considering your speed!!!!
Nice turns and what a group you ran into! Lugging a car battery(?) and fence in addition to their food is quite the effort!
Excellent! And gosh, the danger you put yourself in! You should be ashamed! ;)
This looks stunning! Hope to get up there late this week or early next week. Thanks!
Yep ! Classic. So many good long trips up there.
There is another "guide" over this way, I work cheap too......................... ;)
I heard the Rockies got dumped on..way to be ready and get after it... Keep the reports coming!!!

7000' of car to car at Shasta is a dream we hope to realize next month if the super Sierra snowpack remains.
The word from Amar is that it's in great shape, and the Hotlum-Wintun is now approachable within 1 mile of the trailhead. Weather is looking good next week!
I remember the days of your Trip Reports in the NW. ;)

Good on you for venturing over. The runs aren't too long but there is the scenery!
I agree ! We would climb and ski and look over to Vancouver Island and see many of the "spots" we would fish for salmon and halibut. The days of our 19' GlasPly boat. ;)

I've had September powder in the Rockies, and I've heard tale and seen pictures of August "powder" along the Divide after a storm. But I think the most evasive of all new-snow sirens are the July Powder turns. Not hail, real 2-4" base+ of new snow. Unicorn stuff.
In the Northern hemisphere.

The photo reminds me of our trip in 2015.

Awesome! The hazard the ranger failed to mention is the relationship cost of disappearing for a day from your family vacation! 20 minutes is a pretty short walk from the car. Sounds like you timed it just right.
Late season fresh snow is such a gift. I had a refresh last October that changed remnant ice in the enchantments from unskiable to fun. It only takes a little to change dirty to bright white.
Did you get to ski back to the winter gate? Prob worth it either way!

Carrying eleven days of food? That's hard core!
If I had to walk 11 days AND keep to my self-imposed pack-weight limit I'd starve to death.

Seriously.
How do you power an electric fence for 11 days in the backcountry? Big capacitor or something that gives the bear one good shock?
I could see that not working out so great with a determined bear.

Can't wait to see the pictures!
Welcome fellow 802er and congrats on a WWA classic! Takes plenty of moxie!
Excellent! Great adventure. I love that traverse.
Inspiring. Thanks for sharing this. What a trip!

I tried the traverse and failed due to terrible snow. The road issues are a pain for the exit, but I've got another idea! I still haven't gotten to s. twin!
Indeed, it seems like the exit is a big mystery except that it's a slog. I hope to make a motorcycle trip to explore the logging roads this summer/fall and figure out the best escape option....
Thanks for the replies. It is now definitely off-limits to hike up there from the lifts on Meadows when they are operating. The patrol is strict about it, which is understandable given the very large avalanches that propagate occasionally from that area of the mountain. I think it would be a better ski earlier in the spring when there is more snow coverage and less transitioning over rocks, but still made for a memorable day trip.
Nice pics, especially #2. Truly an Oregon classic
Nice tracks. I did the hike mountain bike scramble once. No skis. I can only imagine scrambling with the skis.
I have seen Donnelly ski. He goes just as fast as that video makes it look. Faster maybe!
Sweet video and pond skimming!
Nicely done, and I hope you treated your patient wife to a nice dinner. This seems to be a tactic I should employ. The longer the adventure, the nicer the dinner (or flowers) :)
One of my favorite parts of late season skiing is linking patches of snow together - for some reason something so novel is stupidly fun!

Nice TR and photos. Jill and I also climbed and skied the Wyeast Face on the last day of the season at Meadows years ago. We had our backcountry gear and put on the ski crampons. A ski patroller came by and explained that it is not allowed doing "that" but seeing it was the last day of the season he said "OK". It saved a bit of touring up to the top of the Cascade lift. Your photos bring back great memories of that run and the views of Timberline and the normal route up Mt. H...
Alas, like the receding glaciers, gone are the sweet 4th of July skis on Skyline. It's become a May objective. All-time views.
That's rad - I love to see reports from the Wallowas!

Oh man, that made me smile. I'm going to have to get up there, that looks like too much fun!
I was confused when you mentioned race skis as I figured you meant skimo stuff. Full DH race skis looks like a way better idea!

Wow!! Great work team (the bike portion would scare me much more than skiing glaciers).
Thanks for the great video links! I'm also really liking the mixed media style mountain adventures Anton Krupicka has been doing in Colorado. It was great to do something like that in my own backyard and with skis!
It was only about a 5 minute ride down to the waterfront start from the house 😀

What a great ski!! I have looked at that many times. Completely green with envy! Looks like you could not have hit it any better. Thanks for the report!
Thanks for the inspiration. That is really a huge effort and a sporty adventure! I'm probably not the only one who enjoys viewing the bike/ski tales. Although neither of these are one day epics, if anyone hasn't seen Ice and Palms or The Last Hill, they are both great stories.

Awesome, thanks for the info. Looks like a great zone to me. Never skied over there but sound like you're the guy(s) to consult if I do!
Hell yes Jake! That's a smoking time and even more impressive with your ski breaking!
For those not familiar with it, for a few years in the 19-teens, the Mt Baker Marathon was a race from Bellingham Bay to the summit of Baker and back. The participants were allowed to use a train to Glacier, or a car to drive up the Middle Fork of the Nooksack, then on foot from there. There's a nice documentary about it that is a...

Voyageur....Started around 5000ft.... Tops out around 7000 plus feet. This is the Kootenay Boundary area....Near the Big White Ski area in British Columbia....Still learning the in and outs. Tougher snowpack compared to the Coast and Cascades in terms of stabilty....You must have patience. 99 percent of my life has been spent growing up in the Coast mountains of North Vancouver
Squamish and Whistler....But I must admit the dry snow here can be quite the reward.

A post on the TAY Facebook group yesterday, 6/15 says the snow bridge at 8800ft is now gone.

Often dreamed, never attempted. That is incredible. So frickin fast. Congrats fellas. Just in awe.
