Thanks for report...that area has been on my list...someday😉

Great to see your report...sure looks like Colorado has amazing descents...way to hit the conditions perfectly...really appreciate this tr!!
The rock lined "chute" provided a nice view of the skiers line. Also a nice view of the sliding "snow". Â ;) Thanks.
Thanks for the info! Hope to explore old snowy soon
Kudos for taking a cautious approach.
I'm biased, I admit. Especially after being buzzed a few times, once in a National Park. When I approached that offender in what I thought was a diplomatic manner I was told to STFU and mind my own business. I did hurry my ski back down to report the violation, though I doubt the NPS had the resources to chase down an individual offender. Cheers.

Chamois, we had the whole mountain to ourselves that day, but I totally agree with not disturbing others with the buzzing. One of the reasons I got the drone I did is that it's quieter than most (I sometimes worry when it's a few hundred feet away and I can't hear it).
At first I thought those photos were from Sperry! But then I saw the video.
I know this is not a designated Wilderness Area and USFS has yet to develop their UA guidelines - but I would hope that you would take consideration of other users when buzzing around.
It is hard to find quiet enough these days.

Nice TR of the realities of weather. ;)
I took a look a few times on Saturday and it looked like it would be skiable still, though hard to say for how much longer. The road access is a question. The FS has not updated their status for it since the beginning of the month. I'd think the road is melted out fully, but timber blockage may be the bigger concern.
If you're interested in giving it a go soon, shoot me a PM. Logistically the CD to summit to Skyline might be a bit simpler though…

What an awesome giv'er on such an amazing route! I've always wanted to connect Skyline over Hadley to Coleman Pinnacle to Heather Meadows but from the summit of Baker last week, it sure looked green to a high bathtub ring around the whole Hadley zone. You think it would still go?
Thanks! Yes, seemed like it would be in good shape for a while still so you'll have the opportunity.
I'd love to do a day from Heliotrope>Roman Wall>Park Glacier>Hadley Pk>Skyline Divide. If that interests you, you have my number!

Great trip and photos!
Do you have pics of the wolverine tracks? These folks would be interested:

This is the best photo I got of the tracks. They were following a skin track that was probably a day or two old - hard to tell. I emailed the Cascades Wolverine Project a week ago but I haven't got...
Awesome! Makes me want to go back to ski the Park Headwall this season. Maybe exiting by traversing the Mazama Glacier and the Roosevelt Glacier back to the base of the N Ridge to avoid the long traverse out to the ski area and the car shuttle.
Looks like a good crew, with priorities well aligned, thanks for the report.

Double whippets and birthday suit skiing. I like your style.
Hmm, maybe that's actually a triple.

The discussion of the Image lake exit got me looking at the map and found that one could also stay high from image lake and go to the sulphur mountain trail as an exit to stay on the west side.
Additionally reversing this exit and then skiing dome and exiting bachelor creek would make an excellent loop that would negate having to deal with car shenanagins. Anybody ever done this?

You could also avoid Bachelor Creek by extending the trip over Dome Peak and down to Holden. More days out, and perhaps less time to ski lines, but some nice country. When we did that in 2000, it took five days to get to Holden (and one more day to go home). We stayed west of the divide and went by Image Lake (a beautiful spot). Other parties have traveled east of the divide, in the Agne...
Pretty good for mid-May. I was hoping you schmoozed your way a free off-season lift ride!

Thanks for the report. I'm not going this year. I've busted my butt too many times dragging heavy gear up a nasty trail, to a nastier bolder field - for maybe one run on hard snow...Skinnable snow, and probably youth required...
Both things in short supply for me at this point. I have the same color hair as JtB these days, but I can at least still...

and who should I run into but Jake the Brit!
If this ever happens again, immediately turn right around and make other plans.
Hah!
Well, we learn from our mistakes. ;-)
Next time I will do it as Jake did it - early April. We'll see if I can convince a partner to come along...
Awesome! I'm putting on another sweater...

When I do this again I'll wait for firmer snow and make it a much longer trip. There are some incredible lines out there that we didn't have the time or conditions to ski.

Way to scratch another notch in the belt, Mike!

Nice! maximusj and I did it in two days, the other way, July 1-2 2017. Did you end up with good skiing going N-S? S-N lets you ski 5 fall-line "runs", but has the obvious disadvantages of a low, shwhacky start and having more sun on the ascent than the descent.

We also stayed at White Rock Lakes and it was very windy!

Yep, that makes sense now!
Sauk's a cool zone that doesn't seem to get much traffic, despite its good access.
Thanks for the TR!

Run down to Annette is getting thin in sections but would gamble it has another 2 weeks -maybe more if weather stays cool
I thought with all this sunny warm weather the Silver window was likely opening up. How long do you think the descent down to Lake Annette will hold. That is such a great steep descent! Maybe with more normal temps returning this week, it will hold snow til next week when I can get it!

Zap, thanks for the report, we were in the area the day before fishing season, and they had just finished opening the road, twenty foot drifts along the road! We were just checking out the country on our way to Twin Lakes. It looked like no end of any kind of skiing you wanted.

Thanks for the trail update too. Super helpful.
I only skiied the main face (i guess it's a face?) on the west side of the saddle. I did not go directly up from the road, I took the trail for roughly ten minutes from the trailhead, to the far side of the face, and then went straight up to the saddle. Basically cut the switchbacks on snow. I was able to ski from the saddle to roughly the same elevation as the lowest point of the trail. There were more dirty snow fingers that continued on a bit past that elevation, but it was all pretty sl...
Nice to see you in the right spots as always!
Well that was an adventure! I always “think†about bringing a chainsaw...
Nice work!
To confirm I understood correctly, you only skied the main face you climbed up from the road? How far down was the snow continuous, and did you ascend directly from the road up the avy chutes and skip the trail entirely? I've only been back there in the winter so just wondering how much 'shwacking is involved with less snow.

Excellent video and looks like a great day. Only thing I could have asked for would have been a little bit shorter shorts. Loved the 'Murican flag fanny pack. Please let me know where I can get one myself.
