Awesome. Congrats. Thanks for sharing.
F*CKIN' A! What do you do to top that? Bellingham to Rainer and back in a day!? Way to go. That's a year of TAY in a day...
Rad! That is FAST biking all the way from Bellingham!
It was a really wonderful chance meet up and ski around Circle Lake and Citadel with you and the pooch.

Meeting you in the mountains made the trip 10x better for me! Thanks for letting me join up with you and Gary!

That looks like another great weekend on Mt. Daniel - thanks for the report and beautiful picture Mike! Can't stop the "progress" but Facebook reports just can't compete with old fashioned TAY - I only...
Awesome report and pics!  Man, I need to make it up there.  Thanks for posting!
Nice work and pic.  Any chance you took any pics of the Twins, the South Twin especially?
Awesome, loved the video and great stills from it as well!  If every drone deployment by the public produced a well-edited video of skiing in a cool location, I'm good with it.

I was up there June 11th last year, and found 8" of fresh snow from the base of Headlee onward, then it snowed on me a little while on the summit.  I like the conditions you had more!
Heck yeah!  Where exactly is this and whats the elevation of this guy?
Pete, we left around 5, but are a couple of old unfit geezers, so our 8 hour climbing time should be taken with a grain of salt. Sorry, I didn't take a picture or look much at the end run situation. I remember that it opens wide on both ends quite a ways out, so it will be a ways once it isn't safe.
nice! any chance you saw how long an end-run will be if/when that crevasse completely opens up?
curious what time you started from the TH and topped out...might head up there soon.  thanks!
Thanks guys. Have a good one out there.
My wife and I saw you walking out on Sunday as we were on our way up.
Empty on Monday - skied off the top down the most direct couloir to the basin.
No freeze unfortunately, but still skied pretty darned well.
My first time up there - really enjoyed it
Mike:  not the same as skiing in your backyard, eh?  ::)
S+C:  The little pond on the Naches Peak side is mostly open.  The bigger one on the other side is partially covered.

Forgot to note:  Still skinning from the car on Naches side.  The nice face above the eastern parking lot with the closed bathrooms has patches but is mostly played.
Wow really great video...and freshies no less..psyched for the coming winter!!!

That looks like another great weekend on Mt. Daniel - thanks for the report and beautiful picture Mike!  Can't stop the "progress" but Facebook reports just can't compete with old fashioned TAY - I only wish posting pictures was easier.
Had the pond melted?
A little more devils club to get to this ski objective. Unreal that it snowed. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the report. I might follow your lead!
It was a really wonderful chance meet up and ski around Circle Lake and Citadel with you and the pooch.  Funny how things happen. We hung out at the top for quite a bit waiting and hoping for the weather to clear before heading down the north side.  It didn't clear so we skied down back towards Peggy's and our paths converged.  A few minutes either way and we may not have seen each other.  Or if we'd brought a tent instead of bivy gear, maybe we would have gone...
You are a Gulo for punishment,........let's see, early morning rain/ poor vis........turn around, bolder field with snow on it,I don't feel like a broken leg...........turn around, 8 inches of poorly bonded glop..........turn around!  Flat tire, ..........payment for being such a hard head!!!!!  You are a Gulo for punishment!

Nice work Tim in a beautiful committing position and relatively more remote than the standard S.Ridge and the next level of adventure ski mountaineering for you and your boys. Kamtron, thanks for bringing up thoughts questioning Tim's feelings on this as it's a process for sure on varying commitment levels skiing in the backcountry with kids/teenagers.
This topic is super interesting to me as our daughter Maya is about to turn 10, a very accomplished skier, loves touring and hiki...
Looks like an awesome ski with good vert....great pics...thanks for posting!
As a Washington skier who intermittently visits CA to ski Shasta, Lassen, and the Eastern Sierra, I have always perceived the ski community in those parts to be strong, capable, competent, and welcoming - but significantly smaller, presumably due to being farther from urban areas.  Shasta is a skier's paradise which can be tricky to catch in good shape.  No surprise with 7.5K of vert on most routes.  Heal fast!
That was fun! A few more photos:

Nice - that looks like fun. You guys sure get around!
Thanks for responses Tim and MW8, wasn't trying to be critical about the kid thing, just curious about the thinking.
Gripping write up, I very much enjoyed reading it.

Even deeper thoughts on family skiing.  So true - some day, and that day will be soon, I will ask myself if i should go as my daughters will follow - and do I want that?

I thought of that as I skied the north face of Shonshoni, solo, 8 miles from a car and people last weekend...I probably wouldn't ski something like that with the kiddos...

Or will I?
If you have other photos ..would love to see them too... video?

Nice work, but points deducted for having a fire in the prohibited area (and one of the most beautiful campsites around, if we can keep it...)
I'm curious how you feel, given the consequential nature of that line, about bringing your sons?

I brought my sons as they are very capable climbers and skiers with lots of experience across the ski-mountaineerin...
Nice write up and photos...thanks..btw how were the mosquitoes?

Robert and I skied the same route on Saturday, starting from White River ~5:30 AM and hit the summit  ~5:30 PM (think we crossed paths with you on the Inter Glacier in the morning). We found the lovely June powder stash off the summit, but were probably about an hour or two late on the Winthrop, which had refrozen. We found the lovely June powder stash off the summit, but were probably about an hour or two late on the Winthrop, which had refrozen. The section of the Emmons above Schurman and the Inter Glacier were (thankfully) softer.

Next time, would plan to start an hour earlier (or skin faster). 3L of water each...

Nice pics. I think the (2nd one) labeled as Rainier is actually glacier peak...fun route!

you're right. Fixed!
Nice TR and photos. It has been awhile since I did that route. Nice to see the photos. ;)
We went back along the route to Mazama Bowl two days later to find large suncups-not fun.  Anyone care to educate me on why suncups form some places and not others?  Paradise and Mazama are different elevations but similar exposures.  Thanks again John for the tour!
Nice TR with photos. The writing portion was GREAT. We all have similar feelings at different times in the mountains but you mention the "feeling" inside. ;)

That is exceptionally cool!
Thank the maker, it was not me that forgot my skins, I would have cried like the whiner baby I am and said this trip is over let's go home, but Mike never missed a beat, and just started booting. It was a slog fest for him, and I still could not keep up!  Thanks for a great trip Mike/and all the great folks we met along the way (more TAY friends).
Wow! What a trip! I thought the wide open terrain was awesome, but what I really enjoyed was the toilet bunk shots, the skinning through lakes, and the step on the toes shot, which was just perfect! You guys are hard men!
Thanks for taking the time to make and share that awesome video.
A friend for "skin" mountain delivery was great. At least you had the skis, poles and boots!

Photos and video are great. ;)

Fantastic TR and video.

I sat down in my favorite chair with a hot cup of coffee and watched the video. It really is enjoyable.

It bring back memories of some extended trips and all the "stuff" that happens when only "you" can remember. Things like duct tape, fixing equipment, descending a cornice, steep slopes  and body parts to finish the trip.

James, each year you always have a few trips that I enjoy reading about and now a video.
Great report and beautiful pictures, Mike!  It was a fun weekend up there and we sure enjoyed visiting your camp and chatting.  We should try next year, same time.
