From what I’ve seen (Ive skied at more than a half dozen Vail resorts) Vail will keep backcountry skiers out as much as they legally can. But truthfully, many other resorts do this as well. Whistler policies are even worse, as the Mountain actually owns the land. But then again, previous owners were not backcountry friendly either.
Thanks for the Pass info. Ill hit you up sometime. Yes, i don't expect to be at Whistler soon. I looked up the statistics yesterday and BC has had 300 Covid 19 deaths out of 5 million people...And they are very concerned and worried...Our numbers are 6 times higher.
I'm bummed by Stevens/Vail lately as well. All we ask is that they provide "reasonable" access to the backcountry. Doesn't seem like they are being reasonable lately...interested to see how this weekend goes for backcountry users up there
You’re right Mike. I’ve been dealing with Vail Corp since they bought Whistler. They don't like backcountry users, they don't like locals, they don't like the best riders who are always pushing the limit. They like family vacation skiers, low risk, and they like profit.
Was up there today on the way to the east side - friggin A - it was pretty fun for the 5 hours I had available. Never skied at the resort but may be worth checking out later this year.
Thanks for the heads up on lodging.
Touring white pass with filbo is a guaranteed good time! 5 star rating!
It's a bit of a drive from your town about two hours, if you ever make it up there is nearby lodging in Packwood and at the resort condos as well as a camper lot. You have posted a lot of tr's about Whistler in the past and it doesn't look like the border is going to open any time soon, which is a shame with all the good snow up in BC. Be glad to show you around at WP anytime.
I think it was just an afternoon squall. Nearly certain Blewett area wont be “in” for a bit again.
I lived north of Seattle forever, so never ventured to White Pass. Now in Wenatchee, it becomes more of a thought...
Yikes--thanks for the update. It was precipitating (rain/snow mix, looked like the snow level was at about 2800') most of the day out by lake cle elum yesterday--I was wondering if any that made it to blewett. Doesn't look like it, unless that's what chased you off the ridge!
Any highway map will do as the resort sits at the highpoint of Hwy12 at 4500ft. I think the resort is going to open really soon as there is so much snow.
Wow! The opposite of my day...That sounds fantastic. I might need to look at a map...

Thought you might want to punch thru to the top? Should be pretty interesting as it warms up!😉
Actually one guy said he was going to do dawn patrol there today...
Avajane, thanks for keeping us informed, think I’ll wait awhile on Blewett.
Thanks for the update, headed out to east peak this AM. 5+ inches of fresh on top of yesterday. One of the better November days I’ve had!
Sounds a bit better than Hyak. Back side was good for 1/2 the run then some kind of styrofoam dense snow. Front side needs some snow. Those with better skills than me were sitting back to keep the tips up. Beats raking leaves.
Ha, who knew Source Lake would "go" (sort of : ) - thanks for the recon mission, Jake.
Let's hope for good snow dump this weekend.
Sounds like you all had a party, regardless of the conditions! :)
Stoked to get back out in the mountains with ya!
@alisse - There are two Seans on the crew so we gotta distinguish them somehow. I suggested he should go by Sean the Bone Crusher, but that hasn't stuck.
Looks like party time in the mountains! I really like that someone went by the name "Sean the Younger" 😋
@jacoblmandell Those are not the Phantom slippers at all. I saw the video that Phantom put up regarding the Slipper and I felt it was too much lateral movement for me. I want it a bit more stiffness.
Those are 2018/2019 Backlands with Phantom's Link Lever. I also have a 2019/2019 pair of the Backland Pros, the ones with the BOA on the lower. I got those because the older pair has the all orange liner which is HORRIBLE and keeps biting into my shin.
I haven't gotten t...
Are those the new phantom boots?! How do you like them? I'm on some old moded tlt 5s and I'm contemplating the phantoms or the atomic backland w/ mod
First you have to put your video somewhere else, like youtube. On the post toolbar here, click the video icon just right of the photo icon and paste the video url into the url box in the pop-up window. Done!
Quite welcome, Mack. From the forecasts, it looks like a refill is coming. And I completely hear you. Had to walk in trail runners to Pebble Creek and I didn't have microspikes so it was a bit dicey going upto Panorama Point and I want to skin from the parking lot. 🤣🤣
I want to go again weekend after this one for some freshies as some snow is happening this weekend with a slight break and again starting right before next weekend. Even a few turns would be great. :)
Thanks for the TR. Surface looks good up there. I confess that after 3 months of trips to PanPebble I am eager to skin from a little closer, like from a parking area 😊
Damn dude, looks like an amazing day up there!
Can't believe I went for a bike ride this weekend instead of skiing. Live & Learn
Thanks for the TR - Looking like this next couple days its going to get covered again, better than most places still! Should be a super nice, bluebird, maybe busy weekend up there. The rest of the cascades don't look like they will get a huge dump until next week.
Lets hope 20 stays open!
Hey, I recognize those p-cord and grip-tape wrapped ski poles, and that Bogus Basin-tested form. Hi Pat! Schralp hard (but not too hard...it is still early November 😁) for us stuck out east. Hey, there was a skiff on the lawn this morning, so it shouldn't be long out here either, such as it is.
Thanks for letting me join your group. 1st turns of the season were worth skinning over logs and gravel! -Jim

oh man! Awesome! Glad you are out and about. I thought you'd already done the surgery.
