We were promised skinning from the car - and while Sean and I managed to skin from the car - the rest of the crew wisely carried many sections of dirt and rocks. The pow stashes were found and a sweet back side lap and some fun steep-ish skiing back to the trail. Walking down hill in ski boots is never fun - next time don’t leave the trail runners in the car.

Route: Trail head up the northern branch of Maple Pass trail toward Heather Pass, continue to Maple Pass proper and dropped down the "backside" toward Maple Creek drainage. The best skiing was found here. Some of the crew took an extra lap from the high point on Pt 6870 down back into Maple Creek Drainage to a feature we dubbed "flat rock". Then back down to the trail. Transitioned to walking again at the Heather Pass junction.

Great views of Black Peak here.

Backside turns!

The Maple Creek drainage had nice coverage, sharks were easily avoidable. Nice soft pockets of light fluffy pow.

Thanks for letting me join your group. 1st turns of the season were worth skinning over logs and gravel! -Jim

Thanks for the TR - Looking like this next couple days its going to get covered again, better than most places still!  Should be a super nice, bluebird, maybe busy weekend up there.  The rest of the cascades don't look like they will get a huge dump until next week.

Lets hope 20 stays open!
