Not at all, checkers as I don't know what I'd be kidding about unless it might be too much left brain activity and not enough right. just kidding.
was that shot of Shuksan from Saturday night? We tried to get a similiar photo on Sunday night but without the small amount cloud cover it just didn't light up the same way as the previous night.
great photos, what an amazing area, and an amazing weekend for it.

Thanks for posting, especially useful is the road/trailhead access. I skied this once years ago and since then attempted it one other time but only to find the road blocked with snow ~4miles from the Grouse Vista trailhead. I too am keeping my fingers crossed La Nina winter will deliver the low elevation snowpack. Not just for Silverstar, but that opens up some great tree skiing stashes on Hood when the avi conditions are unfavorable up higher...
Nice lines. However I feel the need to point out that the Hannegan Pass Road is considered part of a non-motorized snow park, and in fact the road itself is titled a "groomed dog-friendly trail" Salmon Ridge Map. I find it hard to believe that large numbers of snowshoers, nordic skiers and off leash dogs mix well with snowmachines. Really do people have to take their snowmachines everywhere...

Nice crown!
That chute looks awesome....What a ride when the conditions are stable!!!
I thought I learned a new word, but dictionary dot shows no results for bageling. I assume...
bageling(verb)
To eat a bagel.
Great day out up there. There was a little bit of fresh avi debris from sun heated rock on the west slopes, just beneath the big rock above Valhalla. other then that, pretty darn stable, but a little crusty on that side.

The snow had turned into wind scoured crap by Sunday as can be seen by the pic below
:) :)
thanks rootsman! I was about to head up there, but will wait for more snow.
No grief, but I think I was there before they were. I started hiking about 6AM in the dark. I just did not turn my headlamp on until I was off the main run at the bottom and headed up the runs that take you out back towards the top.
Thanks for the report. Sounds like the coverage is there. Now all we need is another low cold storm. Patrol give you any grief for touring through the resort?
Silver Star is in my back yard and I am constantly look up at it. Definitely potential up there. Thanks for checking it out and letting us know.
Thanks for posting about an area few of us have explored. The last photo has some great terrain.
Glad to see that you posted your first TR. The TR and photos are great.
Nice photos. I encountered presumably the same cougar tracks down in that valley on 11/30. A fairly rare occurrence. Parking low and hitching in the morning is a far easier strategy that unfortunately now requires a Snow Park Pass. You'll get picked up quick!

All-in-all, it was a great way to start off a new year
Couldn't agree more. Great to check out some new terrain. Although I'm still upset at the jerk driver of the Westfalia that passed us while we were attempting to hitch-hike back to Heather Meadows!
Great pic's & looking fun up there. wondered if you noted the crater like hole on the back edge of the ridge?. Not too slidey looking, almost an impact crater. Different for sure.
The first photo is great plus the gladed terrain in the video looked ideal.
Looks like nice terrain selection.
Well done.
Well done.
on a ski tour Sunday we skied a N aspect on Hood at close to the same elevation and found similar crusty icy conditions as you described. But opposite the ridge a S aspect in direct exposure to the winter sun held some of the driest powder consisting of mostly surface hoar. there is still some fresh powder out there depending on aspect, but I was surprised to find the exposed S aspect so nice. A lot of surface hoar Sunday, hope it consolidates to the new snow that's supposed to hit la...

Meadows just sucks ! In terrain, snow quality, drive , management, and crowds.
I heard about that nightmare from my friends.
Skiied crystal up in WA that day - 12" of utah powder, waist deep in the trees . Crowded but there is soo much terrain and hiking that it never gets tracked out completely.
If you are sick of Meadows and tired of the wind pack on hood. Travel nort...
my friend sent me this photo as well from the day
I just got back from a 2 day trip in the Baker BC. It's sweet!
Four of us took our first trip into the Tatoosh. Wish I'd put two and two together when skinning up, as I'm sure we met the Robie/Vogt party (I commented on boots).
Stupendous weather.
Up to the pass adjoining 6058, then down the south side, wrapping 'round the bowl, then up to the pass overlooking Unicorn Creek, back down into the bowl, up to 6058, then down through a sweet couloir to Reflection Lakes and the car in fading light.

Wasn't ours, thanks. I'd like to get an education some time about those eastern exits!
We picked up Gary Vogt and hijacked him into the Tatoosh.. Unbelievable how good south side skied. Castle saddle bowl was very wind buffed. We choose a protected route to the east to ski out to road in quality powder. 4 parties total. We had the eastern end to ourselves.
Weird happening at entrance. Ranger was telling us that All Cars needed chains put on ! "Do you mean 4wd with m&S tires ?" Yes ! So we put them on my ford explorer with 4wd. anyway the s...

we were up there on Saturday as well, got there late but were still able to get a parking spot with all the Meadows folks there. I haven't seen many snowmobiles up there this year, I think their regular spots are available again - last year there wasn't any other places for them to go. I think later in the year they'll be back as the lower elevations start to melt out.
We went to SkiBowl for night skiing last weekend, the traffic was a mess due to all the Meadows folks...

One of favorite tours when I have to make it short. Went up the 24th same route. Two laps then home for Christmas Eve dinner. Followed by a nice ZZZZZzzzzzzzz,
Have you or any one else on this thread skinned any of the ridges above the Little John XC area ?

Thanks for the track, New Years Day my buddy Tim and I broke a new track along the ridge from Rainy Pass and then joined up with yours to summit Union and then Jove. Reached the summit of Jove at 3:30 and made our way over to your decent lines, it was a very cold day and the snow was perfect all the way down, we were at Rainy Pass again around 4:30 with the light nearly gone, switched on the headlight at the double switchback for the cruise out. Great day with Tim and his...

-3 at the Smith Brook TH at 9AM. It felt colder at the shaded end of Lichtenwasser Lake around noon. What a contrast.
Mid 20's? Good call, Amar!
We were jogging across Snow Lake at about the same time, about 5 degrees in the shade with a 40mph tailwind . . .

Similar conditions on my tour out to Cowlitz Rocks and the Paradise Glacier yesterday... The first 400-500 feet above Cowlitz Rocks were skiable but heavy powder while above that was not very good with more wind effect. The slopes down into Mazama Bowl on my way back to Paradise were the best turns of the day by far in low density powder, even on the south facing aspects.

What do you have going on tomorrow?
You should head this way Sunday night, we have some trailbreaking to do.
