didn't see your post till we decided to go, but as they say great minds think alike - or maybe it was just the magnetic powers of Catherine? Probably. Anyhow, hope you don't mind if we tag on a report, no sense in starting a new thread...

Surf was still up on Sunday! A foot of fluffy powder, just about everywhere more or less, enough in any case to mostly obliterate the previous days tracks.

The log drops coming down off the top were particularly fun. Looks like...
pic#2 is sick!!  good job
Excellent photo Shredda!  Those are indeed the tracks of myself, Chmnyboy and allenat@ylor.  The short story is the weather and snow conditions were perfect, and the three laps we made were nothing short of epic.  Truly an amazing day to be out in the mountains!

Keep an eye out for Allen's full TR with photo and video over the next couple of days.
Who could believe it could be so good so soon after the rain event of last week?  A few photos. Thanks Silas and Jim-
Sam, the 'city of subdued excitement" thing is creepy and reeks of neurotic behavior and weirdly suppressed competitive impulses.  I live here and it gives me the willies.

Stay true to your Northeastern roots, have more fun than the rest and be supremely cheerful as seems to be your normal MO.
Yup.  What a difference 6" of new fluff can make!  In the trees where we were, the top 4-5" sluffed but was so light we could ski through the waves, made us feel like the hot shots must in their movies?   Once we got out into the open we found 12-16" nice powder that held well to the base, no sluffing, just easy heroic powder turns.   The young Jims broke trail so I could get as much vertical as possible at my age, thank you gentlemen!

Awesome movie. What did you use (camera & editing software)? Looks like some sort of wide angle helmet cam?
Thanks for writing this up and breaking trail for the most part. Here's a few more pictures of Skye jumping off things.

Keep your youthful enthusiasm as long as you can fellas.  It's a big part of what keeps us youthful.

Thanks for the TR.

Well said Joe, we certainly agree.  :D

I'd pay good money to watch some snowshoers go down the Slot. Who's gonna step up?

Edit to add: Bulletproof crust just below the ridge of Kendall calling f...
We saw similar conditions in the Kendall Trees/Lakes/Stump area as everyone else has reported: in the forest there was significant scrapage, in the open super-soft and fun.  The best skiing we had was probably above Kendall Lakes and just below the stump: further down in the trees had some fun pockets but a good deal of scrape-scrape under the few inches of fresh.  Unlike Silas, however, we never had a hard surface crust.

Pics may or may not help illustrate: http://www.flick...
I went up Snoq for a quick lap and some exercise with the dog in the afternoon. A couple guys had put in nice track in up to the Slot that was ruined by some snowshoers post holing it above 5500ft-they followed it up to it's terminus at the drop in to the Slot and turned around. A creamy 14" off the top for the first 1000ft had me wanting to open it up but having to wait too often for the pooch to catch up.  Still scratchy in the trees through the lower cliffs section adjacent the...
Thanks for the report Silas. I skied the Alp BC and found similar conditions with respect your comment about forestation. Out in the open was nice boot deep powder and in the trees was less snow and more crust (not a good combination).

Good stability out there. Would be interested to hear about the stability in other places at the Pass as I want to go ski Red tomorrow. Any comments. Saw a lot of folks heading to Chair, any reports??
Hyak was about 3 inches fluff on top of SCCCRRRRRRR in every turn to be had.  Intermitent sun and small graupel showers.

Was pretty fun.

The front was thoroughly tracked in about 10 minutes as 30+ skiers\riders all descended it!  Really wish I had the camera out for that.   Awesome end to a great day.
Epic.  I've always eyed those avi chutes on Goat Island... Anyone hit that in Winter?
Nice job Chuck getting over there before the weather turned
Really wanted to thank you for sending the TR.  Saw you from Alpental working up the hill all day and wondered how things worked out.  Saw the down tracks and wished it were me.  Nice work!  Great to have the intel from the tours.  Makes it safer for all of us in the end. Thanks again.
Great photo Jay.  That is so totally my line.

I am dying to get out!
I can't see your photos Kyle but I am sure they are great.

Lucky bastards!  Another trip that has me jealous.  The interglacier in winter is on the list.

Thanks for the TR.
I don't think anyone has ever skied that thing.  Did you notice it's twin on the left?  I always thought it would be cool to film two people riding them at the same time....  hopefully one skier and one snowboarder.  They're easy enough to get to.
bandwidth exceedz
Thanks Darin. I almost forgot that a Dilbert cartoon named it!!
Nice report Sam.

Never lose your enthusiasm.

Agreed. How am I supposed to feel the stoke without pictures of this remote, seldom-visited and almost never photographed lake??

Smart ass!  That would be Petite filous in French should your french teacher neglect to use the phrase.   ;)
sorry. next time I'll make the extra climb up to the lake. Not just to get a picture to make you guys happy, but because it's such a fun ride back down.

I kind of enjoyed not having to do that bit.

^^^^
I have to admit a 4000ft continuous powder run sounds pretty awesome. That is going to be tough to top, but you better keep working at it!  ;)

Glad to see you are hard at work.

It's a tough job, but someone has got to do it ;)
Glad to see you are hard at work.
Sick video per norm Allen.  Top notch work chastising me at the end too; my fellow cube mates are currently giving me weird looks due to the laughter coming from my direction.

This violates all that TAY stands for: it didn't take place at Paradise, Hyak, Crystal or Stevens Pass, first off. Secondly, isn't mentioning bergschrund hoping grounds for immediate account ban and flogging a with 1983 model 220-cm ski? Shame on you, sir.

Naah...

The oldest ski I have is a 1992, so that'll have to do.

Lame TR since you didn't post any pics of Colchuck Lake.

If I can get these photos loaded you can see the rock walls.
Nice. Looks like Barometer might be the "new" destination. Didn't think there was enough snow down low yet for quality lines. It's nice to know it's filling in. FYI- Baldwin's book doesn't mention the descent to Wells Cr. off the West side and out over Nooksack Falls. That's a fun one with deep low snowpack and sun effect considerations as well... 3000' if I recall.
I'm trying to load some pictures but the website won't let me.
Hey Alex (Charlie?), was good to hook up with you guys.  Can't believe you all made another lap (I suppose ten years ago I would have too).  Let me know if you need a partner in the future.  -  Chris
Franklin,

Nice photos and movie.  Megan will be inspired and I will show it to her so that she will want to go out and tour someday!  I am sure she will give you special attention if she sees you on the hill this weekend.

Deja vu. Did the same tour the day before. It was really tempting looking at the tracks to ski down to Source Lake from Bryant Col, but our resolve was rewarded with many good turns going all the way around. Was surprised to see no one and that there was only one set of tracks (going the other way) after several days of bluebird. Nice pics and vid. Way to get it while its good.
Nice video tour.  We were up there the next day - still a great ski surface.  That Hoar might be trouble in the coming weeks, but it sure is fun to ski on when it's on top!  Still quite a bit of room for more snow up there - a lot of tree snakes down low on the road.  The snowdog got stuck for a few minutes when she fell through some fluff piled up around some Vine Maples covering a stream.
Trumpetsailor--oh, is that all you did? ;)  Thanks for the info.

Alatasnob--snowmo trip.  Unlike last year, the road is well covered.  I would guess there's a good 3-4' of snow at the WR Campground, 6-8' at Glacier Basin, and at least 10-15' as you head up the Interglacier.

Joe--I can attest to Kyle's "best run ever" statement.  Knowing his history, I too paused when he said it, but it really was a most amazing ride.  Had deeper, lighter p...
Lame TR since you didn't post any pics of Colchuck Lake.
That is looking up at Melakwa Pass and a minor summit of Chair Peak from underneath Mt Roosevelt just before skiing down to Snow Lake.
Nice tour.  It's a great close-by area!  Beautiful day, way to get out!

I havent' been back there in a while, where's this photo taken from?

Solid as always, gentlemen.
