Should I shoot those flat light conditions in B&W?
I'd doubt it - I suspect (but don't know) that the B&W conversion done in-camera is basically the same one done by most photo software. I shoot in color, but often convert to B&W at home when color correction is tricky/contrast is paramount. For the photo above, I cropped the image, desaturated...
Thanks! It's something I want to improve this season.
Nice work boys...
Kyle's Best ever run/snow in his life statements have lost all meaning, kinda like Roseanne's best ever meal.
Glad for him that he has lots of them though! ;)

Thanks Trumpetsailor. Should I shoot those flat light conditions in B&W? It's great to be in the shaded north facing protected snow, but sucks for photography.
Been living in Vancouver for 26 months, Marcus. Both fortunately and unfortunately, it looks like very soon my time will come to ramble on.
Nice work! :).
"Best ever" turns don't happen very often, so here's some photoshoppery that might help with the memories...

You're cracking me up Sky. I see 6 photos, stacked on top of each other ;)
Nice line, thanks for sharing it. Are you living up north now?

Great pic's & looking fun up there. wondered if you noted the crater like hole on the back edge of the ridge?. Not too slidey looking, almost an impact crater. Different for sure.
If it's the bomb hole on the Park Glacier, I was thinking it might be an ice avalanche?
Oh and nice work on the photos Ty, especially the Shuksan sunset shot! Almos...

Going down was nothing less then amazing. I can say with confidence it was the best run of my life.
Damns, dude that is saying alot given the amount of runs that you've done! Sounds like it was amazing. Way to carpe tempestas or however its said in latin.
Anytime Lisa and Kyle! Though I'll most likely be out of town the next couple of weekends.
Pretty sure Dan Helmstadter skied both them coolies one day last march.
Nice shots Leyland.

Bad ass! Did you walk, bike, or snowmo to the White River campground? I'm guessing 410 is still bare pavement?

Wow - I have been reading your posts around the net for some time and when you say "run of my life" that means something. Thanks for taking the time to share your tracks with us.

Of occasional trip reports, yes! :)

Hopefully our uptrack from Saturday was of some use to you, as you appeared to mostly follow a similar if not identical route up (though I'll admit that the upper ~500 feet of track below the final ridge crest was put in by some folks who had apparently dropped in from the south side and then climbed back before skiing the south slopes).
Although we set a bi...

Some day dictionary.com will catch on as well. :)

Very nice! I've always wanted to hit that during the winter. Good job.
It's legal. Until it's designated non-motorized. As far as environmental responsibility goes, don't forget that the ski area up the road runs on diesel and spills it into creeks occasionally!!!! If the road was groomed and had people with new REI snowshoes and labradoodles all over it, I would take my sled somewhere else. But that would never happen. I wake up to early.
This is interesting because I was just considering use of the hannegan pass road for access purposes. I went to the forest service office in Glacier to ask them if I can use a snowmobile on hannegan pass road. The kind lady handed me a map - "Motor Vehicle Use Map" for Mt. Baker & Darrington Ranger Districts. There is no special designation for FSR 32 and 34, and so it is completely legal.

Passed up good snow for a little adventure.
Can't wait to tour with you soon.
Thank you for your contribution, I love that area.
I like the looks of that couloir, that needs a double thumbs up emoticon. Good to see you are getting after it John Scott. Lets get out soon!
Glad to see our skin track out on the Sholes got a little use. :-)
We had a great 2 nights out there!

It's a very short skin in there ;).
Here's a few more photos.

It's a motorized road when there is no snow. I have driven there when there was some snow but not quite enough to stop a (non-sled) vehicle. Does the road really legally change to non-motorized when snow falls?
[There is a nearby road which definitely changes in that manner, being 542 beyond Heather Meadows]

Jim, we used your uptrack to the lake on Sunday (thanks!). We explored a different route through the cliffs below the lake, but it didn't pan out.... skins wouldn't hold on rimed granite (boo)
We dropped from the saddle due to fatigue level.
Great mountain, sounds like at least 4 parties were out to enjoy it in the sunshine!

Until now I did not know this was a non-motorized road. HOWEVER:
a) there was ZERO signage to say otherwise at the parking area
b) the road was anything but groomed
c) we were the first and last people out that day
d) it would be about a four mile skin requiring muiltiple removable of skis due to bare patches
Furthermore, I am not a sledneck as you seem to think I am. I appreciate and agree with those that take issue with those that need to go screeming up ro...

That is a very nice trip report. You have a way with words and style. Are you a writer?
Not at all, checkers as I don't know what I'd be kidding about unless it might be too much left brain activity and not enough right. just kidding.
was that shot of Shuksan from Saturday night? We tried to get a similiar photo on Sunday night but without the small amount cloud cover it just didn't light up the same way as the previous night.
great photos, what an amazing area, and an amazing weekend for it.

Thanks for posting, especially useful is the road/trailhead access. I skied this once years ago and since then attempted it one other time but only to find the road blocked with snow ~4miles from the Grouse Vista trailhead. I too am keeping my fingers crossed La Nina winter will deliver the low elevation snowpack. Not just for Silverstar, but that opens up some great tree skiing stashes on Hood when the avi conditions are unfavorable up higher...
Nice lines. However I feel the need to point out that the Hannegan Pass Road is considered part of a non-motorized snow park, and in fact the road itself is titled a "groomed dog-friendly trail" Salmon Ridge Map. I find it hard to believe that large numbers of snowshoers, nordic skiers and off leash dogs mix well with snowmachines. Really do people have to take their snowmachines everywhere...

Nice crown!
That chute looks awesome....What a ride when the conditions are stable!!!
I thought I learned a new word, but dictionary dot shows no results for bageling. I assume...
bageling(verb)
To eat a bagel.
Great day out up there. There was a little bit of fresh avi debris from sun heated rock on the west slopes, just beneath the big rock above Valhalla. other then that, pretty darn stable, but a little crusty on that side.

The snow had turned into wind scoured crap by Sunday as can be seen by the pic below
:) :)
thanks rootsman! I was about to head up there, but will wait for more snow.
No grief, but I think I was there before they were. I started hiking about 6AM in the dark. I just did not turn my headlamp on until I was off the main run at the bottom and headed up the runs that take you out back towards the top.
Thanks for the report. Sounds like the coverage is there. Now all we need is another low cold storm. Patrol give you any grief for touring through the resort?
Silver Star is in my back yard and I am constantly look up at it. Definitely potential up there. Thanks for checking it out and letting us know.
Thanks for posting about an area few of us have explored. The last photo has some great terrain.
Glad to see that you posted your first TR. The TR and photos are great.
