Thanks for the invite guys. It was great to finally get back there. Plus I was excited to now have skied Ruth Mountain, Mount Ruth and Ruth Peak.

How about the Ruthless Ridge?  Some years back, skied up to Camp Schurman in May for an attempt on Rainier.  Being off-season, we could spend the night in the hut where we found the ranger logbook and were marvelously e...
For sure Marcus. You can take the borders off if you'd like? The only reason I have them is to add the titles and since the background of my website is black, you can't see them.
Great stuff guys.  Jason, may I grace the home page with some of these in the future?

The photographer is usually the one who gets the most exercise. Setting up, going ahead or staying behind and then catching up, then moving ahead. Great job!
The carbon tripod is a great idea, but as you pointed out, all those light things catch/total up.
I thought the skier pace was perfect. I was able to visually feel them load the skis up and release them in the turns. Any young gun can point a ski, but to be able to ski mid range GS turns fast and smooth, with hands forward is an...
That was incredible.  Lugging your tripod, etc up there was worth it.

I appreciate all of the positive comments but if any of you see anything I could improve on I'm all ears.

I don't know, tell your friends to slash harder and jump off stuff?  8) ;)

I like seeing good lines top to bottom, so I really enjoyed that.  Good job.

We deliberated the cause of that slope failure out there Sunday, and an interesting theory put forth was that perhaps that's a large glide crack/shrund moat that had its bridge fail in the warmup heavy precip loading, triggering that slope.  Perhaps the spring will show us a clue.

right on, there was a pretty large crack right there around jan.3rd...I have a...
Uber, stellar and mega - thanks.

Nice work capturing Tyler's mind being blown about 2 minutes in

We am fortunate to witness this occur on almost a daily basis, not only in the mountains, but also at sea level.  ;)

This enthusiasm for the good things is a big part of what helps keep us motivated.

Allen,
Great job of capturing the stoke of the day, thanks for sharin...

Nice! Where did you go off the pass?

That was on another megasupersnowshoehighway tour, far looker's right in the upper Kendall bowl area. The snowshoe grooming makes it easy to ski out, though.
we watched a couple of tele skiers doing those in may 09 .. cool to get out there this time of year  .. of course awesome photos as always jason .. the one on mt ruths summit is really cool too
It's horrible, bumpy, icy, dangerous, and with downed trees.  Too risky  ;)
How's the road for Snowmo's.  No half side ploughing?
We started at 9:00 and were in Glacier Basin by 10:30. I think we summited at around 1:00 and back to the campground just before 3:00.

Each time we are getting faster.

The Emmons is really starting to fill in  ;)

Roads in great shape and hopefully will still be covered in snow after this rain event.

No plowing going on as of right now.
The setup i"m using is:
Vanguard Carbon tripod.
Manfrotto 701 HDV Fluid Head
Canon 7D with 28-135mm, f3.5-5.6. (the crappy kit lens, I want to get the L 24-105 f4)
I use a Hahnel Intervalometer for the time lapses.

I just recently got a rode videomic but I don't take it into the BC so all the audio in the video is from the on board mic.

The 7D (and I believe all other Video DSLR's) lack any video stabilization (lens stabilizers only w...
Amazing Kyle and guys.
What was the tour times ?
Wow. Well done!
Shots in the alpenglow are professional grade.
Holy crap that looks fun!  Nice job guys.
That was a really good video.  Good angles for your shots.
Nice! Where did you go off the pass?
Solsoul and I ended up on a megasupersnowshoehighway somehow off Gold Creek. Well, it was a recon mission. Next time we'll go somewhere else :-). But off that highway, the snow _was_ fabulous!
Allen, what are you shooting with?  You've got some great shot selection and a steady hand (or good use of pole/backpack/tree) to make for some stable shots.  Really nicely done.
I believe this thread should be moved to "lift assisted" skiing.

Best video i've seen all year.

Really Allen, great edit, brings me back to Sund...

Yeah, the skiing has been pretty good up north.  I'm glad you enjoyed the video.  I'm headed up for another 5 days at the yurt starting Friday.  I'm sure conditions will have changed but I'm optimistic that the yurt will be insulated from the dreaded warm up.  I'll let you know how it goes.
Best video i've seen all year.  Not the head cam thing, great composition and lighting. The skiers did a great job too of not making it into a million turn countdown. Super stuff, look forward to more of that!
Great edit. Nice wide shots and excellent choice on the soundtrack (good instrumentals are hard to find. Thank god for sampling/looping). Keep 'em coming, though it definitely made the current weather hurt just a little worse. :D
Stellar job yet again Allen.  It really was a memorable/amazing day.

This video was refreshing to watch after skiing goo at Baker today.
ya i saw them lines too!  nice shout out to swift crk SHREDDA
There are a few more pictures here.
Thanks for reporting and getting after it.  I was considering a similiar expedition but when I woke at 6am to bare and wet roads I just couldn't pull the trigger.
That tree triangle is a magic space for sure.
Few years back we spent 4 days there under identical condition.
Every night the new snow erased our tracks. It was like the Groundhog Day movie.

Thanks for the pics!
Love it up there - too bad you couldn't hit the alpine, but that pow looks fantastic!
It looked something like this - sorry for the poor focus, I think it's a power issue as my camera went dead about 3 seconds after this . . . damn, it was cold!

Thanks for the pics, you all.
Thanks for the info MoFro and the pictures.
Yum, snow cones.

That slide reminds me of our debates about best routes out to the ridge from the Table/Ptarmigan saddle. At least the descent down to the mellower ground below the saddle has always yielded fun turns for us, but a more direct traverse is tempting. And having done the traverse in more consolidated conditions, I can confirm that it is indeed much quicker...

We went...

David, you are looking like having too much fun in those pics.  I though this was a Mountaineer's trip, and not supposed to be fun ;)

A thoughtful comment from another renowned and well-respected mountaineers trip leader [genuine sentiment, no sarcasm, always enjoyed your tirp reports!].
Hmmm - seems to be too high of a Tele to AT ratio in this post.  ;D  Aren't we always supposed to be in the minority?  Also, looks like pretty nice snow.  Good pictures!

Snow was 8-12" of pretty light snow atop an edgeable crust... small windslabs...windscoured ... tips occasionally dove through ~8" soft windslab.  Slabs stiffened through the morning. Loading seemed all due to the west-bound wind through the pass.

The daylight shift found similar conditions, less crust where we were, soft and hard 2" windslabs...

Also - may have lost a black cell phone on the skintrack/Summit West lot next to a white Subie. Reward offered in bottle currency for its safe return!
Pretty qualifies!  Let's see them -- sounds like a good way to spend the morning.
