Oh do tell more....

This is all such BS!!! I guess skiers aren't in the same class of citizenship as Golfers, fishermen, and hunters!! Skiers don't have enough rich country club types with big political pull like the golfers do. Whatever happened to equal application of the law. Are skiers second class citizens? Call your lawmakers and raise holy hell!!

Great report. Thanks for sharing.

I’m new to this and my first photo didn’t get In. The first photo with the good looking snow was where the snow stopped me at 4900’. I’ll try to add the other one below...It’s of the patchy snow right at the pass east of Diamondhead and on Windy Point

Thanks for all your work on the new site! I found it really easy to use while putting together this TR.

Looks like an incredible trip, @aaasen. Thanks for sharing your story and the incredible pictures.

Thanks for the report alpinedad. Where did you hit snow on the road?

Seems like ski touring is a go, if all national forest access is open.  I'm planning to go to Crystal, but I'll probably check first. Otherwise it will be Alpental for sure. Unless it's raining., even then, I might go if it's not pouring.

We've had one hell of a nice spring! Tons of snow too. Too bad we had to miss it!

What a load of crap! Being outdoors in the sun and getting some exercise is the best thing a person could do right now. Inslee is an idiot!

Looks like an awesome trip. Great photos. Must be a great area.

Thanks for posting this eye candy Kenji.  Must have been fun!

Not sure about anyone else. But it is very tempting to be a criminal. 4  weekends in a row with sun. One of the best springs for skiing in many many years.

Main problem is social distancing??????

There is still a lot of snow up there. It will take a while to melt it all. For Mount Ann, you would want stable avy conditions.

Yes, Flyfishing is a pretty solitary activity, and yet Inslee has banned all sport fishing.

I called Crystal mountain to see what they say about BC skiing, and they said they would have me arrested if I came up there, and yet, the homeless camps on public property are left alone to spread disease among the population, construction continues on Key Arena, people are driving all over the place delivering fast food and Amazon packages, the Pot shops are open as well as the liquor s...

Looks awesome-great views and photos. I wonder what this warm weather will do to the fat snowpack.

Nice trip. Cool photos!

I don't think everybody's okay with it, but it doesn't seem like a flame war anybody wants to wade into.

This sums up my feelings pretty well:

Thanks for the quick fix!

Kamtron, the Trip Reports page sorts by date submitted.

However, by default it filters to year 2020, and since PS44 didn't include date, I'm assuming that's why it was not showing on your end. I have removed the default year filter so this should not happen again.

Great photos. Looks like a nice day.

FWIW, this was posted today but doesn't show up in the TRs page, since it is associated with a date in year 1969. Maybe we should be sorting by newest post instead!

Wow, what a great TR and pix, @PS44. Can't wait to get back out there again for some late spring skiing.

Are you folks really OK with this? This is BULL!! No Hiking, skiing, back packing, canoeing, kayaking all Freaking summer??? This is nuts! Are we living in a police state now? Please give me one logical reason for this. And please don't tell me it's because somebody might need to be rescued.  There's people all over this state riding motorcycles, flying in light aircraft, running power tools at home, falling off ladders, and doing all kinds of dangerous stuff, but we can't go freaking sk...

Beauty! What resort was that?

Curious how this new site works????

Went up to Stevens Saturday to check it out and was surprised to see tracks in the ski area. People had separated the cones blocking access to the parking lot to get in. Talked to a group of boarders (who were not social distancing.) I asked if anyone was enforcing the closure? They said no but were told they were on their own.

I stayed home last week because of the NF closure but there are options. I personally wouldn’t violate a coned off lot but the closure appear...

Cool trip. Thanks for sharing.
Yes. Thanks for sharing. All the best to the PNW community. I hope things can get better and I can get down to the PNW for some skiing and climbing.

Seems like the only way to manage traffic and reduce damage to lookouts and other structures once they become well known is through a reservation system. Or close them entirely, as was done at Winchester lookout. I remember thinking "this does not end well" when I started seeing social media posts about Winchester.

Well - for the Mt. Baker - Snoqualmie NF it's  pretty clear -- https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/mbs/home/?cid=FSEPRD719012

ALL trailheads are closed. I think the intent from that narrative on that page also is clear - really - they don't want people accessing the trails. I suppose you could park by the road and say, access Granite Peak if you really felt you needed to do that.

Or if you are lucky enough to live next to a nice access point you could do that. But under...

Well - all DNR and USFS land is closed. So the options are limited. My guess is that the few staff left at the Summit would chase you away if you gave it a go.

Depends which Forest Agency Alert you're reading. For example, Columbia Gorge specifically says ALL FOREST LAND vs other forest agencies stating All Forest Recreation Sites. The article someone posted...

If a ski touring soul were able to find access to NFS lands NOT using one of the mentioned entrance points, could they then use the NFS land they have accessed? How about other Federal/State lands?
The USFS Policy also appears to be the same in ALL WA and OR NFS areas.
Oh for Christmas sake already!  I don't get it.
It'd be great if the BC ski community could get organized to protect these structures and keep them open for use, rather than having them inevitably close, as the Winchester lookout did. I had such a blast up there on Valentine's weekend years ago, skiing Larrabee in corn.

This is the kind of thing the CBA was created for, but I'm not sure how much traction they've had since their creation: https://www.cascadebackcountryalliance.org
Aaasen, I speak mostly to the additional wear and damage the poor old structure has seen in recent years as word has spread. The winter visits are particularly rough on it. I've made it a point to bring temporary repair materials in winters past. 3 broken window panes so far by my count. And, yes, publicity has made this worse. The real dagger was an Outside magazine article about it a while back. Word of mouth spreads slower than pictures on the internet, just a reality of modern life. No...

I acknowledge that this was not the right time to be in the lookout. A couple weeks ago it seemed somewhat reasonable; the seriousness of the situation hadn't sunk in yet. In hindsight, it was a selfish and irresponsible decision.

Thanks for sharing that bit of self reflection. I suspect many of us were slow to fully acknowledge and adapt to current reality  a...

Eh, I can see cumulus 's point. The HLLO has sadly become more and more gangbanged over the past 10 to 15 years. It's one of those places where in sure a lot of folks would rather see people enjoy it amongst their friends and keep it quiet on the internet, but in the modern age of self promotion, sadly the location can be the victim. It's one of a few places I greatly regret ever sharing info a...
Is it sad that more people are enjoying the place? I don't see it that way. I think the expectation of having a cabin like this for just you and your friends is a bit ridiculous. It's been around for 88 years and people would know about it with or without you. I'm all for stewardship, but this possessiveness over public spaces does not sit well with me.

I acknowledge that this was not the right time to be in the lookout. A couple weeks ago it seemed somewhat reasonable...

I guessed hawk but the pros say it might have been an owl. Snowshoes are more active at night. Both kill snowshoes, dont eat much, and cant carry more then a few pounds. If it's too heavy, they eat their fill, then come back until they can carry it, or someone takes it. In the photo there is a slight imprint of a wing.
