Well done! Did you find that unstable layer to have healed by now?
solid report! love that S loop tour. conditions looking good around there--last Wed, the 17th? Or more recently?
Very good. So glad to see good stories of interesting terrain!
Awesome! That looks like a pretty big day! Beautiful pics. Thanks for sharing!
Haha awesome! We summited at 10:30 ish. Going for NWFNR Thursday/Friday- see ya up there!
Found a cell phone on Lassen, if anyone lost it let me know what kind you lost and I'll send back.
We toured there 30 years ago but didn't have enough snow to consider Bacon pk. worthy of the brush shenanigans. North side of Watson had a lot of snow so yo-yo'd everything in that area which was good enough. The scenery is amazing as your video conveyed. Good work!
I just passed you folks yesterday, skied solo at 10 am. See you at Adams?
Awesome! We are on a similar trip ha, I skied S Sister yesterday! It was fun (got it a little late) but not bad for not freezing hard overnight!
I think we may have watched you guys set off those sides from our high camp. On Saturday the mank want moving although it clouded out a couple times during our descent.
I skied Lassen yesterday with Meira and we were able to skin from the car with 4 short carries via the SE face. Dropped into the west face, had to carry through about a 50' section, but overall had a 2000' descent. Some shenanigans required to return to the parking lot but not bad. We are grateful for Amar's inti...
Thanks for the company, and really cool video! Now I have something to explain to my non-skiing friends/family what spring skiing is all about!
Sweet video & track. Looks like a wonderful time
No visible cracks or sags at least as I saw things.
We dropped in about 130 or so. Wasn't really any better. Legs tired from the ascent and tele skis made for semi-survival skiing esp. the lower slop. Still a great day in the mountains with my son and his friend.
Any indication of or concern of cracks beginning to open anywhere?
@Ryanmugan Scatter creek is still flowing strong. I waded out before committing - estimate 8-10" deep
Looking good up there! About how deep was the scatter creek crossing?
Skiing off the top of Hood is almost always interesting. Glad you're all right.
Jens you seem to get faster by the day! Thanks for the idea of Rock Mt. in June. This is super creative!
Wow we skied this like a month ago and thought it was on its way out - I guess not, amazing it is still in!
Thanks for the invite duder, great to get out with ya! Thanks for snaggin some pics too 🤙
Surprising to see such a crowded summit on a Thursday....
Nice work man!
Nice to meet you, Ryan! Thanks for the company. It was fun watching you ski off the top.

Next time I see you, I'll take you up on that parking lot beer!
Nice pics! Later in the summer, I've made that same approach only to find Gallager Head lake surrounded by jeeps and pull-behind campers!
Overcoat was a true classic Cascades adventure. (Please note, biking and suffering not included in attached gpx.) We approached from the Middle Fork and met at 6am at the Snoqualmie Lake TH, loaded three bikes onto an SUV and made the drive to Dingford Creek TH. Left the car on bikes at 720. Rough biking uphill with the skis, road is in bad shape, but we made it after 2 hours.
We used a gpx from an earlier turns post. Hiked the Dutch Miller Gap trail for 4 miles (nice trail). Forded t...
That must have been you guys in the white sprinter with lots of vegitation on the inside. I was out there that day and was wondering who got the gate trick played on them.

Really enjoyed these trip reports Jens, thanks for posting them! It has been a beautiful spring indeed.
RE road washout:
Not really a hydrologic issue, per say, more straight up geology. A rock face (center-left in picture below, looking south) collapsed on the south side of the creek. The debris filled the creek bed and and rerouted the flow through the mini-campground and along the road. Expect a new parking lot at some point.
Very cool! I was wondering if this still goes this late into the season. Thanks for posting!
Mark - thanks for the concern. But I was aware of potential dangers, and am/was experienced enough to know how to handle it. I've skied muir at least a dozen times, and am aware of how to navigate in a white out. I had my compass, I had my GPS. My description was more dramatic than it was. My comment about fall line was more of a "I knew this intellectually, but experienced it empirically for the first time"...
Oh it's you two that flew passed our party of three. What a great day there!
