Thanks for the fun read Don.  That is one good way to compensate for the obvious lack of powder shots in recent TR'S.

Happy Birthday tele wunderkid!

Keep me in mind, I would like to get out with you guys again soon.
had not found that site.  Perfect, thanks for the link.  Looks like there might be some good snow up there.  Just need to plan a safe tour or two.
Awesome. Dang.

Monica, I hope my advice wasn't too bad :) and BTW, that deproach really can suck. I remember forgetting my flashlight and with an overnight pack, in the pitch black, spending hours going back out that way (which we didn't come in on, so no clue where the heck I was going). What made it worse was that it was a solid sheet of ice, 6 degrees and we had to ski all the way to the freeway interchange. Oh man, good memories of Gold Creek Valley. Good thing my secon...
i was hoping someone was playing around up Gold Creek on Saturday....Alaska and Chikamin were on my mind, but opted for the low hanging fruit of a nisqually chutes ski instead.  Looks like y'all had great conditions!  nicely done :)
Ha!  I'll be damned... we happened right onto it.  Really needs more snow for that bottom to fill in though.  But the icy trees were fun too, in a different way :)
Here's some photos, John. We toured around Table Mt. on Saturday and found plenty of crust on south facing slopes. North facing slopes were still soft.
beautiful pics, and it sounds like a "A" for effort is in order!
A winter ascent of Chikamin: impressive!
Incredible, you all, as per usual!

Thanks for the report Clem,

Maybe Jane and I will be lucky too this week.  That is, if get over this labyrinthitis, brain tumor or whatever it is. :-)

Larry

Lar,

If it's a brain tumor, I have a swiss army knife.  I could meet you at the clinic and you could coach me on what to do!  Some of that north run on Dawg just mig...

Why...?

Perfectly sunny warm weather, great stability for skiing, fun objective and company!  :D The top steep section had 2 inches of corn over a pretty hard layer but was very glad my skis were grabby onto it.  That was the toughest ~ 6000' day I've had from the grind getting out.  That was my first time in Gold Creek, it's certainly not a smooth downhill glide home!  Would be interesting to go in with more snow.

hey Ryan maybe you could thumbn...
Knowing you and Monika, Ryan, the rest of us can rest assured we would all come out in daylight.....of the following day.
Hi Marcus!

A nice sunny day 8) with great views that made up for the crusts and in the trees the boilerplate with chicken heads.
A shame we did not find the hidden passage to alta mountain but the bailout was not too shaby - does this look familiar?

Im glad I had my ski cleats and Im bringing my helmet next time I ski with you.

Great Day!!!
had a new tourer w/ us, wanted to show him that digging pits is the fun part!
Garth:  Our friend Doug skis alpine, but for BC only did Alpina cross-terrain skis with leather boots; even with those on his feet the Helis were a huge upgrade and all he'll need until well after he steps up to a plastic boot.

Snowby:  The Heli Stinx were my #4 ski, and I've never ridden them when we've toured together.  I have 2-4 newer pairs depending on how you count.
But it has crossed my mind that I now need a cross-terrain waxless, and/or an u...
Good job digging out for the RB!  We were out the other day and didn't think we wanted to damage our shovels.  There's a lot of hunters out there, and not many gatherers. ;D
Did you already check here?

terrible grooming savegondor.

It was a good day to break Wilkez cooler cherry.  Stability was VERY GOOD.  Visibility close to unlimited.

We were joined by Dan, walked up to Cheops 4 slidepath and skied the STS couloir.  700m of 45 degree slope.

Definitely adequate for my needs

not as nice as Dan's but got some decent ones!
Awesome... that's a great ski.  Nice pictures!
Nice trip and great photos.  I was thinking of heading up to Jove myself.  It looks like it did hold the goods.  Glad somebody hit that.
Thanks for the report Clem,

Maybe Jane and I will be lucky too this week.  That is, if get over this labyrinthitis, brain tumor or whatever it is. :-)

looks like pretty crap conditions....
I am traveling down there next weekend and am having trouble figuring out what the snow pack is like.  I can't seem to find a good avi site like we have up here.  Something with good history.  From your report need to keep to the N - NW slopes for good snow.  Going to head up for turns Thurs and Friday.  Weather report says snow, but if the weather is any thing like it has been up here that tells me nothing.
Verrrry nice Chris. The pictures are great as always. So good to see you last night--and meet both Don and Brad--next time on skis I hope when I can whoop and holler it up, too.  ;)
Hi Chris, Nice to meet you at the Moscawulf party!  Great pictures and trip report.  After hearing you describe it, then seeing the photos, a picture is worth a thousand words.  That looks like an excellent day out.  Hmmm, maybe this will be the next secret "stash"  ;D

Lee,

Thanks for keeping the spirit alive for those of us who are riding the keyboard.  They are forecasting a half inch of new overnight in the Central Cascades.  :'(

Hey Chris,
We were up on the ridge and peak just west of you and saw you booting up.  Looks like a great pitch.  We obviously found the same conditions on south aspects and couldn't resist a couple laps up high.  But we also had a pretty good run 1000 feet down towards the middle fork in the shade on the north aspects - snow was mostly firm, but had minor pockets of soft blown in snow.  At least it was all smooth.

Great day to be out - couldn'...
Nice work sniffing out the goods, Chris.
8am at visitor centre tomorrow eldo - going for shorter day.

Today 2009 - 02 - 07 - Swiss - Hermit

Straight up then straight down in pow culminating with untouched knee to waist deep pow lines 40 - 45 degrees down to highway. It was adequate for our needs

Wind-hammered up high.  Aborted bootpack to Mt Rogers as snow was zero boot pen and would have been problematic climb plus lousy ski down.  Elected to ski down via Hermit
Looks good!
Better than hammering in a skin suit at a rando race.

Note I got my butt kicked by two americans from montana at a ski mountaineering race in sunshine village today!
Nice work Ron!  You sure know where to find the goods.

Florida was finally warmer today than it was on our tour on Tuesday!  Body surfing without a wetsuit was nice today, but I can't wait to get back to the PNW tomorrow.

Although I'll probably take any work I can get, I hope I don't get stuck here for a month this summer.  It might be hard to continue my TAY streak in Florida...  8)

Do tell...

Oh you know, just like, gargantuan mtns, fresh pow, and sunshine.

Way to put it all down.  I have a few more quote from RK

"Those little slips really get your heart pumping. "  RK
Right before my heart really started pumping on a big slip.

"This is my big air" RK while jumping into the creek.

Horrible conditions, great day.  Thanks RK and MW (Happy Birthday)

Great TR.  Photos would destroy the images I am envisioning.  We took our grandsons up to the Summit for their lessons in the fog and drizzle.   :'(
Fun TR.  If it looked too too crazy to ski you guys were probably looking at the Not Slot/Snot.  You can tell the slot by the "bonsai" trees over by the entrance.

I haven't been up for little while, but it actually sounds like conditions are improving!

Great report...best I've heard in a while.

Yep.
Quit and entertaining read, RK.
Sounds like a lot of our trips.
Great report...best I've heard in a while.
The Alpental 68 is very nice. Perfect post-work out calorie replacement.

I recommend that we designate it as the official post-Phantom beer.
The most encouraging report I've seen in awhile.  Glad to hear you had a good trip with The Gimp.

Fog and drizzle at Snoqualmie today for my grandsons lessons.
There's still folks out there that will buy Heli Stinx? I have a pair of 190's with some Dyna Fit bindings I would sell.
Good to hear you got in Mack.

What are you going to replace you Heli Stinx with?
I imagine that you have your mind on something.
Temps in the hut were 26F so a couple deg cooler outside.

You boys will be happy to know that we've packed a new 20 000 BTU kerosene heater into the hut to keep your puppies warm.

Now, if we can find a way to stop folks from trashing the heaters... ;)

samoon, let us know when you want to go back in....
Glad you made the most of the conditions Mack, I am quite jealous nonetheless. And yes, please let it snow.

Chris
I have always wanted to check out those facilities since I first heard about them 20 years ago or so. I also heard that we might be crossing paths with you nearby in a week or so, Telemack.
