Here is some pictures from the trip  http://picasaweb.google.com/chrispy/HurricaneRidge#
Nice choice on a line
Not much snow around Hurricane, but many roads are blocked far from the skiing due to the wierd lowland snowstorms.  I think someone should investigate.... 8)
We had 1 night. Ranger-Ranger is one of the three high points of the area and it connects directly to Mccue ridge via ridgeline...more or less.

The peak wasn't named on USGS but it was right on a division mark that said "ranger-ranger"

JimH and I did this a few weeks back and opted to just drop into Rainy Creek and ski across to Jove. It was actually pretty quick from Rainy Pass to the base of the climb up Jove with easy navigation along the way. Skins off and on again only once from Rainy Pass

Yeah, I think that's the most efficient way to go when the W side of Jove is the objective.  I...

Funny you bumped into Ed (kneelturner) he recommended my girlfriend and I try and book a weekend up there, we did not get the booking, but seems he did. Glad you all had a good time. One of these days I will get to go too.

Chris
good to see folks out there getting the goods in the olympics. I want to ski some lines out there soon, sounds like they need a bit more coverage.

Chris
looks like a beautiful line guys- well done.

Chris
Good to see the goods gettin' gotten at Scottish Lakes.  Did you have 1 night there or 2?
Where is Ranger-Ranger from McCue Ridge?
Glad you had a nice day on Tallac.  A couple years ago, Jill and I summited Tallac on a sunny, windless day with about 8" powder.  The summit views certainly are beautiful of Lake Tahoe and Desolation Wilderness.  We also descended The Corkscrew.

We drove back Saturday.  Looks like a powder day starting Tuesday in the PNW.  ;)
What a great day and amazing weather to boot!

Nice job, way to get the gnar!  Super asthetic, nice work!
Yes, from the back bowl it looked like a direct traverse might drop one into the gully from hell...  thanks
Once on top of MAzama ridge the best way to get there is by heading north up the old paradise glacier bed skiping, bypassing the rim of the back bowl. Stay high right and diverge right and cross Stevens Creek. We chose to take a long up traverse. One could set a track sooner or boot up depending on conditions. Our original intent was to tour further down on top the ridge. But I got greedy for some turns after noticing a slight shadowing in a slight bend  of the ridge.
Younger legs might...
Very nice.  Letty and I skiied the back bowl yesterday and noticed a couple of sets of tracks on the south slope of that ridge ~ guess they were yours.  I've never been over there as it seems a bit of a truck and haven't come to the idea of skiing  the Cowlitz, which I guess is what's over the top.  Do you head over there by skiing the Mazama back bowl followed by that longish looking traverse, or stay high with the skyline trail and then cut over ?  If yo...
here's some of the scope of Stevens ridge in Jeff's pictures.

[edit to fix Robie's link]
Cesaro, Saw a lone skier skinning up Great Scott Bowl from our perch on top of the Tooth. Was that you? Sounded like a bit of scraping on the way down. Not many skiiers up there for a sunday. Saw a pair coming over from alpy but that was it. not that much cover this year although the bowl looked quite skiiable.
Beautiful photographs. Thanks for taking the time to share this report. Much appreciated.
That looks spectacular!  Nice use of a hooky day!
right on bro, wish I coulda been there.
Nice work guys- I could not pull myself out of the resorts, it was simply fantastic! My friends mentioned at the end of the trip that they felt they had not seen me in four days. Four days of powder= me off the grid skiing it!

Let me know if you ever head up this way.

Chris
Yeah Pierre, scaarry.

Just a note.  We had two parties of two out the Mt. Baker side of Colman Pinnacle over President's Day wk-end (Feb 14-16).
We got snow all three days and most of it was blown over to the N side of the ridge, so we stayed high on the S side on the way back.  Other option would have bee to ski way down to the flats on the N side then back around Table Mtn. somehow.
Wonderful line. Looks like a georgous day to be out there! Thanks for sharing.

How long did this tour take, car to car?

I left the car at 6.45am, and got back at 4.30pm.  Being able to ski the entire road on the way down sped things up.  The bare patches are now covered again.

Any idea of origin and type of critter bits?
Signs of struggle with bigger/faster/stronger critter?

My guess was a dog, judging by the teeth??  The errie part was, this wasn't there in the morning on the way up.  Also strange there was no sign of struggle, nor any other body parts.  There were what looked like cat prints around it though.
BREATH TAKING--THANKS FOR THE TR!!!!

Just goes to show that great trip reports are recession proof.  Thanks for the escape - makes me want to move to Wenatchee!
That shot of the NE face looks super sick.
Thanks, Blitz,
Jerry ran the creative on the legendary Dege North Face Assault. I was mainly a roady in that expedition. Nonetheless I'm honored to have this trip incident description compared to Jerry's handiwork.  ;)
Maddog - very exciting TR, and RonJ - brilliant imagery, reminiscent of the assault of North Face Dege.
Im glad you all survived to share your story! ;D
Would you go so far as to say it was "Geezer crust"?
That's the way to use that "golden geezer card".
The title in BOLD really makes your TR stand out.

The one time I was avalanched was also in a fog situation, in the Canadian Rockies, above Bow Summit.    As we ascended, conditions were fine, but then the fog developed incredibly fast.   We were far above Peyto Lake and decided to descend back to the car, so headed south and east--and skied off a cornice in the fog, landing on a slope that then avalanched, carrying the two of us down about f...

We tele-folks bust the variable crust one leg at a time, ya know? Sit back a bit and ease the front ski into the choss.
I probably would've biffed like the other geezers, but I would have been in good company.

Thought I was following some dog tracks up the trail on Sunday. Looks like some good powder to be had, we went up Lundin and had some good turns as well.

So do you have any idea what this "snare line" was?

Yep it was a buried "semi" breakable crust layer.
What a great stretch of weather and skiing!  We spent the last five days up there too and did the Young's traverse the day after you on Tuesday, 2/17.  The other highlight was the Little Sifton traverse on Sunday with some beautiful cloud watching.  Saturday we toured below Sir Donald, Monday above Balu Pass and yesterday a short run in the NRC gullies before heading out.  Our third trip to Rogers Pass and they just keep getting better.
