Our tribe of 3 set out with low expectations, but the long trudge over firm/icy snow in the valley forest eventually gave way to a reward of sweet winter corn on open south-facing slopes from about 4,500-to-6,000 feet.  Snow was soft enough for fairly easy step-kicking while booting up the final steep portion of the slope, yet firm enough for great, fast turns.  Sun rays seemed quite intense for February (ascended in short sleeves).  Supportable and somewhat soft surface crust found on a northerly aspect on the ski back down near the valley floor.
Nice work sniffing out the goods, Chris.

Hey Chris,
We were up on the ridge and peak just west of you and saw you booting up.  Looks like a great pitch.  We obviously found the same conditions on south aspects and couldn't resist a couple laps up high.  But we also had a pretty good run 1000 feet down towards the middle fork in the shade on the north aspects - snow was mostly firm, but had minor pockets of soft blown in snow.  At least it was all smooth.

Great day to be out - couldn't beat the views.

Hi Chris, Nice to meet you at the Moscawulf party!  Great pictures and trip report.  After hearing you describe it, then seeing the photos, a picture is worth a thousand words.  That looks like an excellent day out.  Hmmm, maybe this will be the next secret "stash"  ;D
Don

Verrrry nice Chris. The pictures are great as always. So good to see you last night--and meet both Don and Brad--next time on skis I hope when I can whoop and holler it up, too.  ;)
