Nice work!
You have to love the alps!
I was there last year racing the world ski mountaineering champs representing canada!
The euros are way to fast up and down.
Thanks for the report!

Love the title of this trip report. It's like a Japanese translation of an American horror movie.
Definitely looks like good judgement on your part. The terrain you avoided is very complicated and reminds me of scary places I've been in the not-so-distant past. I would have avoided it too. Unless there were thousands of cookies on top.

even with safe snow that looks like a shit slope.
BTW i think the other approach looks much much easier....
gross and yuck yuck.... even if it had been safe that'd be shit skiing.
WHAT?! You guys are pansies! ;) just kidding, glad you guys played it safe. The snow is coming...
Sadly it was the other side of the mountain in Dense woods west of Lanham lake.
The visibility was poor and we had never been there before so we stuck in the trees
This was the headwall we decided against climbing

Any pictures?
And to add to your warning, I stood too close to the edge of the cornice over that wind-loaded snow field and it collapsed! Of course I knew that was a danger, but I did it anyway.
so just a reminder, watch those slabs AND don't stand too far over the start zone. I fell about 6 feet down behind a 3 feet of cornice slab that broke off and impacted a 35 degree ice slope. had that been the slab you mention that also would have...

"caves" is ridiculously rad.

That south facing slope is a favorite Spring corn run accessing it from our side of the hills.
Does that mean you live on the Eastern side of 410
and we were finding Powder on North Facing slopes wensday
I dont know about today as Dan and myself were bush whacking up at Stevens Pass

Who'd have believed that third one would have even been possible.
Definitely photoshoped!!!! Kidding!
wow...great pics, and nice stash...hoping there will be some left this weekend.
Does anyone know if it warmed up up...and if so how high?

It's not quite a TGR film, but it's not perfect blower on an Alaskan Peak with a heli-ride to the top either!
And you're still dropping WAY more vert. Go Cascades!
Thanks = there are more shots here

Did you ski all that vertical non-stop?
Amar did a straight-line from the summit to the bridge. I couldn't stop him! One of the ice towers provided a great kicker and he launched over the entire icefall. What can I say? He's lucky he landed between towers and not in a crevasse. :D Actually, we stop consistently to leap frog for photos,...
Wow, you guys know how to find it. I was out in the Morse Creek Drainage on Sat, 24th and found only breakable crust and survival skiing. Nice work
Sweet pics! Those closeup shots of the tele turns with backlit ice crystals could be a mag cover. What kind of camera and shot settings were you using?
Who'd have believed that third one would have even been possible.
Love that shot looking down into Morse Creek. That south facing slope is a favorite Spring corn run accessing it from our side of the hills. Thanks for the look over at Mesaschie Cr. For some reason I don't seem to have any photos in that direction and was curious what the terrain looked like over there.

Great trip report Amar! This has inspired me to take another run at this route this year.
Looks like a great area. I've never heard other people mention it but always figured there was something out that way. How steep is that run?
looks like great weather and some decent snow. Keep at it.
have fun up there Thurs. FYI: loaded areas mid to lower on slopes at Meadows resulted in Hard Slabs up to 3' deep that were difficult to trigger on ski cuts.
Nice work Rong! How heavy was the sled traffic on the road and what time of day did you start out? Were you on the road for a little less than a mile before you headed up to the saddle? Thanks,
Steve

we had the same problem, and it definitely was ravens. alpymarr stashed his food in his bivy. i think i will bury mine in the snow next time...
Better bury it deep. I was on an RMI winter seminar climb years ago where we buried a bunch of trash and and unneeded gear under at least two feet of snow at our first night's camp spot near McClure. On our r...

Yeah, we saw you guys down farther on the Wilson when we were descending the Finger. I thought I was just making up lingo when I refered to telemark skiers as teleboarders, so I ment telemark skiers. Sure enough, a google search revealed the true teleboard. I'd love to see someone on the mountain with that!
i've still never seen on in real life, either.....
I hadn’t thought of it - but quite the resemblance to feathers! But no, no chickens were hurt by skiers (we were the only chickens around when we chickened out of skiing some of the nice alpine lines ;) ).
BTW: I think there are still some open spots in March. Here is the website http://www.vmt.ca/

The weather in the Pacific Northwest has been remarkably bipolar so far this winter. Heavy rain and flooding in early November, then mostly warm and dry through the first part of December, followed by 3 weeks of bitter cold and heavy snowfall down to sea level, and then a major Pineapple Express in early January bringing 10-15" of precip with snow levels rising above 7000 ft. Whoa! That third pic looks like you all were out there plucking a snow-chicken or something! :D
That looks like an EXCELLENT locale. Imagine they book out well in advance?

Fortunately a USFS trail crew folk went out with some Washington Ski Touring Club/Ellensburg Ski Club members and logged and brushed it out in November. Thanks to the WSTC/ESC for the good work in the area!
John, as I remember, you had something to do with this too! :) I want to congratulate the FS for their responsiveness to the needs of non-motorize...
Way to get up there in these spring like conditions. Shuksan can be a pain in the winter! Either way, awesome to see your pics and hear your story.
at this point it is all about the windblown Powder
Good work
We had similar conditions in the Crystal B.C.

Cool - we were just up there drooling over the Flute bowl. The avy danger was still considerable and the Symphony lift wasn't open yet, though some stuff off Harmony Bowl opened up. We had to leave Saturday, and I knew we just missed getting the goods. Way to get it 8)
Nice, as usual. Nice looking crown on that slide.
Nice! It's good for teaching rope work - parallels with jugging/crevasse rescue too. That's awesome! I just watched the Planet Earth series "Caves" the other night...made me want to go drop some vert in a different way! ;)
Aye, that's around when we were up there. There was another party of 3 that was up there at ~2:30. I was surprised at the snow up there also, because I thought the inversion would have melt-frozen everything. Glad that it wasn't anything unpleasant like that!
Holy Chowder...... I totally didn't believe Toby when he said he was in a music video on top of what he called the "Table". Never again will I enter the Garibaldi Provincial Park without having Glass Tiger scarred into my memory.
