Jove Peak
2009-02-07
A few weeks ago, myself and some friends did a leisurely tour around Union/Jove peak areas. Between equipment failures and plain old slacking, we didn't get too far. We did, however, get incredible views of Jove Peak and its beautiful sustained pitch.
Given all this spring-like weather and favorable snow conditions, Wes and I decided to go for Jove. We aimed for an early start, but that got hampered by a flat tire.

After the fix, we pushed on and started our tour. As anyone who was out on sat. knows, the weather was gorgeous offering sweeping views of the cascades as far as Rainier and Mt. Baker. The skin up to Rainy Pass was easy with the snow on the road very firm. Route finding to Jove was also a piece of cake given the low avy danger conditions.
The snow was perfect corn...I mean perfect! Even more surprising was that the north facing slopes of Jove were holding some very nice powder snow. Sadly, we did not have time to lap that, but did thoroughly enjoy the long sustained pitch descent of Jove.

Pristine corn...yes, we skied this

what a day!

Nice trip and great photos. I was thinking of heading up to Jove myself. It looks like it did hold the goods. Glad somebody hit that.
