lol, yeah man, watching all this from my office as well :(
Eratta:  No slabs yesterday.  Just a lot (2ft) of nice new wind dep. pdwr on smooth ice w/ a poor bond.  Then a foot or less of nice rain melt/freeze snow over  finer grained (not rain affected) snow.
Aspect:
SE, 8kft

Rutschblock failure on the ice w/ a light step (3).

Yeah, we were whimps.  But we still are whimps, live ones.  I did not like a nearly1k run w/ the conditions we encountered.
So instead we stuck to mostly lower angled stuff well anchored w/ roc...
I just have so much hate.
A spectacular day! My first ski outing this season and my first time replying to a TAY partners wanted ad. I hope it's a taste of things to come.

Great meeting all of you!

cool, you gassed yourself!  Reminds me of back in the 'Nam era when in basic training they had us practice donning gas masks, walking thru a gas filled room, etc.  The last part of the exercise was to walk into the gas filled room, take off the gas mask, and stay there long enough that you would have to talk at least 2 deep breaths (not to mention saturation of your eyes, hair, skin, clothi...

Ran into Silas in parking lot -- he was mildy disappointed when I wouldn't join him in mooning Scottsman via the JVC webcam.

I have seen Silas's ass before... OK as asses go but not that spectacular.  Too much downhill AT ski instruction for maximum gluteus maximas development. ;)
Looks like great conditions. Well played.
Didn't know you were heading up with Murray today Silas!  Nice...  Looks great.
I was also up there with some folks from the WSTC -- we were headed to ski the Paradise Gl toward Cowlitz rocks, but found wind slab on an ice layer on the E aspect of the Paradise, so opted to ski gentler slopes on the Paradise and Pebble Creek south to above McClure rock.  The snow on the Paradise was pure ego boot top powder.  We then dropped down from McClure to the Golden Gate and Edith creek throught thin, crusty coverage.  I picked up some new gouges in my rock skiis on th...
Yes, that gully, or Swamp Cr. gorge as I call it, has very little snow in it. From memory, I think the base of the gully is near 3700'. I have traversed over from Twin Lakes in the past, passing under Bear and out to Goat, but I can't say that that would be doable right now...
How was the snow yesterday?  Looks like there is some more coming in the next day or two.  I was thinking about maybe heading up that way on Saturday if it doesn't rain up high.
has warren miller been sighted yet?

if you see a heli in march and cant get around, you'll know what's up.
Photos from yesterday (9 November 2010). Looks like the snow is piling up while the road is still driveable.

You covered quite a lot of terrain. On your trip to Twin Lakes did you see the gully that leads to N aspect of Goat Mt.?
That's cool. Must have been quite a dump overnight. Hopefully more snow coming to the higher elevations only keeping the roads open for a while yet.
Awesome! Did a few jobs a couple years back in the Tri Vecta Secta and looked at those ridge lines w/ outcroppings as I drove by almost daily thinking they would be good on the right day. I guess Epic on the right day because it looks good on any day.
Only on grass.
Nice one David you are one tough mo-fo.
Fatter boards would have given you better flotation, maybe got you past some of those "sticky" places.  ;)

Creative skiing, great post!

Gary
Expecting horrible freezing rain, crusty snow and lots of rocks, me and three friends headed to paradise on sunday.  We were surprised with some sunshine, great snow and decent coverage.

good surprise is good
bad surprise is terrible
missing out sucks bad

Nice report and pics
Now that's some TAYing.  8)

What was the avy hazard?  Did you do any stability tests?  ;)
Welcome, quikclimber.
Glad you got some good skiing in while the rest of us are waiting for more snow.
Nice report; good pictures.
Thanks.
SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL!!!!! :) :) :)
What a difference a day makes, eh? Skinned from the TH up the whole trail the next day. Could only ski down about 1/2 of it though.

Ya, I apologize for the video.  It was never really meant for an audience....

My 4th period history class liked the video, although some were disappointed that I didn't biff.
Ya, I apologize for the video.  It was never really meant for an audience... it is just evidence that we did put skis on and slide around in the Mt. Rainier environs.

Good to be back in the winter months.
Beautiful!  Nice line down the chute; Hop Trip is always a good decision maker!  ;)
Is the Andean toke what made everything look all hazy n' stuff at about minute 2:30 in the video?
Hey, with friends like y'all, who needs enemas?  ;)
Actually thanks for the shouts.  I got 38 months of TAY but only 12 without posting my own photos....

Here is a link to Nick's video from yesterday.  I just copied and pasted it---got a rep. to maintain.

The wind and whiteout are irritating on video, but Nick sure looks dashing in his Andean toque.
Hop Trip, Boundary Bay IPA, and Brown Shugga' were enjoyed with these turns as well. Cheers!

Mack, photos? I've never actually seen photos he's taken with his "camera."  :'(  ...Love you Mack!!

Though he's been IN his fair share of dramatic photos . . . this among many others:

I have received pix from Mack's camera - you just need to drive him to your house, grab his camera, pull out the card, upload the pictures, and then you have them.

Thanks so much.  I appreciate it.  Have any photos to share?
Ah, yes, sorry it was so cryptic.  It's above Paradise in Mt. Rainier Nat'l. Park.  Panorama Point is at about 7000' where the Skyline Trail and the route to Muir Snowfield diverge.
Check out the MRNP website or www.skimountaineer.org.
Niiiice...  Sounds like you done had yourself some good skiing!
Any chance you could point a new comer to WA in the direction of this place?
Thanks!

I think that it is well established that Joes as a people have too much personal integrety to garner significant popular support.

Judging by the content and times of your latest posts, I'd say you were definitely up far, far too late last night.

More pitchers.

Nice.
Thanks.

I don't even think of CRR this time of year.
I should change that about myself.
