So our group got 1/2 a sweet run and the long walk of shame out. Kinda felt like kissing your sister, but a good looking one, if that makes a difference ??? How was the Gap exit?
I've done that walk of shame. I particularly remember crossing niagras.
I don't have a sister... ;)
The gap exit was ok if you stayed on the road... ...
Nice action shots A-snob. Glad to hear you found yourselves some untracked powder.

Guess I really missed out. ::)

Kudos to you Freebird getting turns on Northway. We thought about heading out that way but found the powder around Green Valley to be irresistible.
What a great start to the new ski season.....

Nice tracks on NW Carl. We really underestimated our time, so by the time we got out there. We had to value a long sweet powder run or ski out in the dark. Good to ski with MoFro, PNWBrit, Scotsman. How was the Gap exit?
We saw those 3 tracks off Northway on a late lap out to Morning Glory Bowl, looked very nice.
A light touch was needed on several of the laps we made yesterday, such damn fine snow deserves just a leeeeeetle more base.

Thanks for the report and photo. Love your insight on the logistics; it seems like the challenge with gear, partners and travel never ends. When you get it all figured out, let us know, then publish the book.
Yeah Crystal! Pics from Silver Basin (it was just as tracked out there as when the lifts are spinning and South Back is open). Great snow in spots, no signs of instability

Thanks for the scouting info.
No need for a second Xtal thread - so here's an addition.
Checked in with patrol (it's easy and friendly (skinner's right of the main lodge), then skinned up and into Silver Basin. Quite a gaggle of folks followed, then extended, our track up and into the bowl. High-shin deep settling blower. Just a glimmer of windslab brewing near the ridgetops.
Heard another party descending ouf the the clouds -- "I just got two core shots, and I don't care!"...

Did 3 laps on Northway Peak then skied snorting elk and took the gap road out.

Like I said, thin but we had a great time.
Looks like you scored one of the first lines on Powder Bowl. Nice work. I'm impressed that you ventured out to Northway. Where did you roll out? Old bus pickup? or parking lot?
Any pictures?? Was it snowing much? Might head out there tomorrow. Thanks.

Prior to this and at the end of the season, Meadows is fair game as it is National Forest and therefore public land. Only during normal season operation are there restrictions.
I have no problems following the rules... if I knew what they were.
Since Meadows operates on "public Land" I believe they should be required to publicly post ALL the r...
I found a few of those rocks this morning. It was nice to get local again though.
Do any of you guys that live up there have an update on how the Hyak cabin owners got taken care of after that slide? Did the resort have to cover their damage or is that all still being worked out?

I saw that. They looked nice. I wasn't so burned by the lack of snow as I was by Mother Nature shutting down MRNP.
I was up at White Pass on 11/19 and it looked absolutely nothing like your pictures. It's amazing what 3 days and a real nice storm can do for the coverage. We hiked to the top and rode to the bottom. The Black diamond runs were slim on the coverage, but the rest was good. There's a TR posted on here by Snowolf with some nice pics from the day.
It's good to see that Snoqualmie finally got some snow. Yay for La Nina!
Great...good to see you here. Looking forward to getting up to Paradise on a good weather day.
I signed up for an account just to be able to say that day was a blast! I've lurked T-A-Y for some time now and finally took the plunge into contributing member. It's gonna be a great winter!
First post here. :) This was a great day on Rainier! No skins here, but we still had fun. Here's a little video that me and some friends made. http://vimeo.com/16811639
Went up yesterday (Friday November 19th). Incredible day, snow was blower, bottomless and perfectly stable, what more could you ask for?
Visibility was in and out but we knew our way around and shredded some gnar, skied a nice mini N facing chute to 45 degrees, little sluff, no slabbing. A couple of laps in the Blueberry chute zone had us wishing we could freeze time and just do lap after lap. Truly a day i won't forget. Back at it tomorrow!

Silas started talking about Hollywood type stuff mid day (proper trail blazing technique to maximize video goodness) it destiny for him to end up on t.v.
Nice to know what happened to you Markeyz. We went back to same area on Friday, when it got too crowed up near boxcar we followed your trail up to party knoll and the so called Dave's demise. So in the end you did break trail for us.

I think the big reason for this is due to avalanche control. If a back country skier/rider enters a closed are from above or outside the permit area in the Heather / Clark Canyon system, they could be in the line of fire from the Howitzer.
The one thing I have never understood is the policy of no hiking outside permit area if you rode the chairlift. A prime example of this would be the White River Canyon. It is an incredible ride to drop into White River from the moraine...

We were there (Dicey, ChainsawWillie and Mtn Man). Best run was off of Powder Bowl, nice knee deep blower pow. See you up there next time.

I bet that the Eastern slopes held some nice pockets.
The west side not so much.
Thanks for the beta I may have to head that way this week.

They interviewed Silas on KING 5, he was on the evening news, identified as "Cy Wild" and stating that "This is the closest you can get to Utah without actually being there."
The video is online (but missing the Utah quote): http://www.king5.com/home/Washington-states-largest-ski-area-opened--109358459.html

Nice report. West face looked epic.
^^^^^^^^ you are in trouble Kyle Miller. Ride on chair and let your buddies walk???????
Hey, I didn't know about the Martin Rand @ Crystal thing. That is newsworthy. The idea that you could get a boot worked on, run-test it, and then take it right back in for further tweaks, it's brilliant. I definitely need some work on my stock-crappy Spirit3 footbeds to make them bearable, I come back from any long tour hurting bad.

Nice meeting you as well, Dave. Snoholic, I guess that was you and crew I met in the parking lot. Would've been closer behind you if I didn't keep having to go back to the car for the things I forgot (jacket? backpack? I was lucky I remembered to put on my ski boots.) Thanks for setting the skin track in from the top of chair 4. Looks like you guys skied the main shot down from the saddle between boxcar cornice (which doesn't have a cornice yet) and the chu...

The one MAJOR exception to this is DO NOT enter an inbound closed area. For example, say you climber up Wy East and wanted to ride down into Clark Canyon. If Clark is open that is fine but if they have Clark closed, they would not be happy and could have Hood River County Sheriff greet you.
great reply Snowolf, it's too bad Meadows does not post yo...
It'd be so much work to haul skis up CBR, but the descent down the backside in your last picture would be so nice...
Ale is one of the few people I know that wouldn't hesitate with an idea this stupid...sorry. You forgot to mention that the wind and spindrift machine stopped as we dropped away from the lake. I feel like I got kicked in the family jewels...but in a good way.

Great TR and the photos are spectacular. On the same day, I went to White Pass...man I have got to hit Crystal too.
nice.
do you think we can skin to Silver Basin tomorrow or will the resort get upset?

I think he's embarrassed to admit he skied with us.Haha ;) So and so sure can break trail good!
Nice making turns with you.

I thought Meadows didn't allow touring/hiking/skinning. Was the gate open or did you just get away with the poach. Thanks and nice images.
