Does anybody know the verdict on Summit East's operating schedule for the 2010-2011 season.  Will they be running the new lift 7 days a week?  Are the dawn patrollers going to get run out of there this season?

Doesn't skiing in Seattle mean the mayor is out of there next term?

Looking at my car after a day of errands, I'm waiting to hear Seattleites complain about salt damage to their cars (after complaining two years ago about no salt).  Just wait...  ;)
Rad! Can't wait to get my POV, girlfriend says I have to wait till Christmas :(
What make are you running?
I feel so lame.  Wanted to ski Lincoln park but spent the day thawing pipes instead.  good news: no leaks.

That is my home hill! Rogers park is also good.

Doh! CURB!!!  Way to seize it J!!
Snowpocalypse 2010?!  That's great!  ;D
Thanks Micah. Yeah, me too! It was classic early season. Buddies with no cameras. I had 2 on me, but the batts. went dead as soon as he pressed the button. A shot with the POV cam would have made it look flat. Check out the you tube link on that vid for another of some Oct/Nov. skiing. The aspect ratio improves throughout. I think I have it where I want it. You can see skis, but also skyline. It's 960p.
Nice, I thought I saw Rich going down on West today when my girl and I were going up.

I didn't see you though Silas.

From where that 2nd picture was taken, I think we were parked next to you, the red Subaru.

Great turns at West - had a few chest shots on the low angle terrain - when I was able to get some speed.
Doesn't even compare to the turns the Metro bus was doing on the video on Cliff Mass' blog ... but at least you did take advantage of the prevailing conditions :-)
That's awesome. Plus you can get a nice edge sharpening at the same time.
Awesome -- I XC skied to my physical therapy appointment this morning.  Fantastic snow through the North Seattle Community College campus...
I always enjoy hearing about people skiing in Seattle. I was too busy with errands to get out on my skis today, sorry to say.
Fat skis were indeed well appreciated, thank you lotus 120's.

We got an early start and skinned up the access road, deep 24" trenches breaking trail around to the top this morning. A thanks to the Cat driver for having groomed the trail to the top for the second lap. Lots of people littering the hill, 20+ hiking up the skin track on the face as we left after our third lap.
Sweet vid, Toby!  I felt like I was there...

I wish you would have had a shot looking back up at the line from the bottom.
There is a lot more snow now. 8)
Thanks for the update. I recently made a video of a day at Twin Lakes. It's my first attempt at POV footage... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKBd0xKT2ms&hd=1
Well, for me it is a bit easier since I get the Spring pass at T-line. What I usually do is spend a few hours riding the lifts. At the end of the day, I grab my pack and fill out a back country permit..(these are at the climbers register at the Wy East day lodge) and fill it out. I then ride up Palmer and start hiking. Normally the patrollers never even question you. Once I had one ask to see my permit. and when I showed it to him all he said was "enjoy your trip be safe"

The Drifters are waiting for mountings - just need to let my ski expenditures drop off my wife's radar for a few weeks.  When the coast is clear, I'll get them mounted and you can show me how to SLURVE!

"Slarve!"  Oh jeeze.

You could put the Switchbacks on layaway ;)
Randy, hit the same spot today. It was great. Saw your tracks surprised that they had not been totally covered with new. I had the impression it had snowed more. By the time I reached the top it began to dump.

I was on my brand spankin new Rossi S3's - twin tip, rockered on both ends, nice camber underfoot, with good sidecut and flex - they were awesome!  Even skinning was better...

What happened to the Drifters???
Rossi S3= a very nice ski. I'd like a pair.

So, I'm dying to know what boards you were on?  Rock skis or rock star skis?

I think I left only moments before. There was definitely a cluster F&$# at the parking lot entrance when I left. If the snow was wet and heavy in that parking lot I would have been parking my Subaru right behind you.

Also... that snow was really deep and fun.
Did you all year my little yelling spat with Alpental employees?  I'm not proud of driving a two wheel drive with bald tires...but the parking lot was not an option for my car.  Hence a park job on the side of the road.  Then Alpental employees blamed me for a delivery truck getting stuck when he ditched it on the other side (read: plenty of space and um... delivery truck on unplowed roads?  really?)
I/we were just up ahead of you. We didn't trigger anything that big but definitely noticed cracks and smaller stuff moving. Looks like we all turned around at the same time.
Hopefully they keep the pass open through this next storm. I wouldn't be surprised if they closed it.

Or don't wash your dog. I only wash mine if he rolls in shit or something. Snow doesn't stick to them very well if they are not "clean".

Thats funny -- 'cause after I wash my dog, she always goes and finds a rotting roadkill carcass or something similarly hidieous to roll on and get herself smelling the way she likes.
Cool looking Pup. My Golden Lab's favorite sport is skiing by far.

A " dirty dog" and 10% battery.... You're a rebel Aaron! ;)
What can I say, it's the way I was raised.
Sounds like a good day out Don. (except for the car ride)  I doubt that those potential powder poachers had any idea what they would have been up against!  Lucky for them.

Nice write up Androolus.  We were across the road above Lake Ann.  Cold camping and deep cutting huh?

re: nostalgic ramblings - It would have been a shame to be on the narrow sticks of yesteryear.  That cold smoke begs for a specialty tool.

The top 1000 ft was the best snow I have seen so far this winter.

Tony,

Great puppy report.   ;)

I've never seen Snow Lake without a coating of ice.

Try spraying her with PAM cooking oil before touring... it will help keep snow balls off her.
She is adorable.

...  How'd the coverage look at Washington Pass?

Yesterday we skinned to w/in 100 ft. of the Blue Peak Col, and then post-holed past the cornice to the top of Madison Avenue.  The slopes to the south were a bit wind effected, so we chose to ski what we had climbed, enjoying knee deep pow down the headwall.  A few rocks were ticked.  The Hairpin...
That 1st pic is all about cute!
Tony she is beautiful!!  She must meet Shasta, they will have a hoot in the snow.  Hope to be skiing with you soon.  We'll get DC out to break trail, he and I and some friends hit Crystal on Sat. good times but needs a bit more snow, got a few core shots.

Scotsman, are you sure this isn't some kooky Jack London 'The Call of the Wild' idea of yours... like prep the potential emergency meal prior to entering the backcountry?

It actually sounds brilliant, although I bet my dog would insist on spending the day licking at the buttery goo...
Thanks for the report.  Heading that way later this week.  How'd the coverage look at Washington Pass?
She's going to be a total powder hound.

Just make sure she doesn't poach your untracked lines  ;)
Oh wow Tony, she is cute!

I love that slope! Thanks for the reggae ski vid.
Nice work dude!  Although I've been behind in the pow-hounding, I plan on making it up thoroughly!  ;)
