Are you skiing a pair of Vector BC ?

Yep.  They came in the mail on Monday and I took them out Tuesday.  They skied great.  They climb like you'd expect a fish scale ski to climb.  Nice upgrade from my last pair of summer skis which were the K2 Summit superlights.
I thought I saw that red beanie descending from Muir!  Wish I'd have made it up there a bit faster.  I had a look at the PG from Anvil and was tempted to drop in.  I talked to a skier who was on the way down from the camp; said there was a party-of-five up at Muir contemplating the PG...  Glad to hear you guys got the goods.  Wasn't too bad on the SF either!  October pOw!
Very nice video.  Good music selection for the video.  ;)

Thanks for the detailed report ( as usual!!!).

BTW, do I need a snowpark permit to park at Paradise?

What is the earliest time in the a.m. I can pass through the gate driving up through Longmire?

Is that the same for other entrances (when those roads are open,i.e..)?

Thanks again for great conditions up-date (and the enthusiasm).
Hey Silas,
Funny running into you below Anvil yesterday.  We were caught in the 3 hour delay while they used dynamite to blow up some dangerous trees near the road.  It took a couple of bg booms and a whole lot of waiting before we were allowed to head up there.  They don't do logging like they did in the good old days.  Wonder if this was a Saruman vs. Ent thing.

We were POed at our not checking the road reports.  But why don't they schedule th...

Lunching at Muir we enjoyed a Chinook helicopter flyby, training perhaps, or looking for someone?

Should we be checking some NPS website to stay aware of road closures?   We were lucky to miss the closure today, but how to be better prepared in the future?

Just checked with Mt Rainier NP office and learned that "the person who normally posts road closu...
You could have at least cleaned the snow off the new web-cam so we could have watched you  ;).
Soon, very soon. Glad your finding the goods.
thanks for all the photos, everyone!  it's great to see so many different perspectives on a memorable early season day.

i put together a panorama of baker that i shot while climbing heliotrope the day before ruth.  what an imposing mountain!

You rock "Marker-Rock User."

I like it. Like it all.
Yes.  Thanks for the stellar TR.  Love the PBR theme....Yur a funny gal!!
Hey folks,  Good to meet everyone up there last week.  I finally go round to posting my photos from the day.

They are here:

See you in the mountains again soon,

Alasdair
Thanks for the great (and hilarious) read...definitely the only bright spot on an otherwise dreary Monday morning at the office! :)
Thanks for the timely conditions report.

Muir can be cruel when the wind hammers the snow, or blows it away.

That looks like a pretty nice joint!  ::)
Good luck on your studies.
Thanks!

Thanks for sharing!  And thanks for showing up that day, even though your motivation was low...

It is always worth it....Right?

Really like how these photos turned out. What camera are you using? Did you edit them after?

They just look that good because the weren't stuck in a cloud like all of our photos.

LOVE the photos!  Great adventure.
Nice!  Sweet pics and vid.  Congrats on TAY #1!
We wish we would have had the bluebird day Silas and the crew had on the Paradise Glacier the day before but we made the most of it. From about 7000 ft on there was little visibility, 15 ft maybe.

Also spoke to a guy with a 74 Datsun who just came down from Muir.  Quite an inspirational character.
how r the boot s workin for you?? are the liners too tight?  i still have 29 liners for those boots that i dont use.

Rainier is my favorite place.  for so many reasons.  i wish you many great voyages
Thanks for sharing the great pics!
I looking for places to go this weekend, and everywhere except really high on Baker is forecasted for rain.  Judging by the pictures from the beginning of the month it could be really nice!  Anyone have any up to date beta on what the glacier may be like right now?

Much appreciated.

Brett
Awesome work guys!

Ryan I always look forward to your TRs!

well you wasted no time at all getting an AT rig put together and up on the snow!  looks like a nice day to try out all the new gear.
Nice report. I get quite a few late afternoon/evening skis in on Hood during the summer fall months. Some of the best snow I have ever skied is during this time of day.

And what's up with the Tall Timbers? Windows papered up, sign says "Closed Indefinitely" - ron j?

The word I heard was that owner died.
All the old locals have moved to "Cruisers". The one on the corner is good too.
Way to ski the steeps in October.I get wigged out looking over the Park Headwall from the top because it looks like a cornice from above. Good call in climbing it first.
Thanks for the skin track. We we're a party of two.The team of three, I think was one skier and two snowboarders.
Love that first panorama!

especially with the culprits larger than life shadow!
$90+ for gas? Jeez, Amar, time to get a different car!

Yeah, it was just as good on Monday. Hard to believe all the gritty suncups from September were gone, it was perfectly smooth from Muir to below PC, with an inch+ of soft corn on top . . .

as excited as i was to ride, i still managed to snap a few quick photos.

I love that first one, such a great top of the world feel looking down into the valley.  On a view day, it's hard to beat Ruth.  Great running into you guys and look forward to seeing you next time,

Sweet turns. More snow on the way!

Brian, thanks for the great picture of a more typical October.  On the way up I kept saying "Okay, we're going to come to the first crevasse soon" but none to be seen unti...

Woke up again a few hours later  with no plan and deep depression setting in, watching the sunshine stream into my condo and staring out the window at Glacier Peak...

Glad you had another great day in the mountains but, with all do respect...  :'(
I consider it sinful not to leave the house here in Sumner by 5am . But then again a couple of my best Muir trips were  late in the day skiing down as the sun set .  ????
Looks and sounds like a great outing!  Glad you were unscathed by the 40-degree sidehill event- spooky!
