Wow is ruth crevasse free for this time of year! Nice work!
Chris, thanks for posting the pix, nice gallery. I'm definitely grabbing some of them.
Or get tongue lashed by AA.......
I didn't see a picture of him actually at Muir. I call BS on his 10-years until I see a photo with him in it.......and I'm knot kiding.

What an excellent day for Ruth Mountain! This was my first trip there, and it was perfect! A truly great day with great friends, weather and views. Thank you Travertine for being an excellent host and driving! Dirtnerd, set a wonderful skin track too! This is also my first TAY trip that has included someone younger than me. <shrug> Anyway the skiing was amazing and I'm looking forward to tackling Ruth Mountain again in the future.

Great day of skiing up there. We made it up to Muir around 11 ish. Is it now standard TAY policy to post a picture of yourself at Muir to validate that you were actually there?
obvi.
A very excellent day, and thanks to James for hosting us at his house.
New snow was up to 8". I've never had over-the-knee shots in October. Superb turns on the upper mountain.

Hi Charlie-
I was in the group of 3 you passed on the way out just before the Spray Park trailhead. Nice to meet you!
We stopped below the Flett headwall due to hard snow conditions and waited for things to soften-didn't really happen. Made for a pretty chattery run down towards Spray Park. We didn't find the north-facing powder we were hoping for, but it was a beautiful day on the mountain nonetheless!
That old Flett TR you found is scary. Just goes to...

The 4th Crossing Trail begins along the Paradise Valley Road about 0.6 miles east of the main Paradise parking lot. Just continue straight along the road past the parking lot and back downhill to reach the marked trailhead at 5240 ft, near another large parking lot just after the road crosses a stone bridge. Follow 4th Crossing Trail to a right on Skyline Trail to Paradise Glacier Trail to reach the basin below the current glacier terminus.

Excellent conditions yesterday, here are a couple of pictures to add.
Hi Amar
Thanks for the info on the Paradise Glacier route. Where is the fourth crossing you mention? Never have skied the Paradise Glacier, and would like to.
thanks
Pete

Kaboom! Ten well documented years. Awesome Amar, and thank you for the quality you bring to this site.
One of the most amazing stories, was your night of survival on the crest of Rainier. You huddled next to a steam vent in a snow cave, if I recall. And the innocuous beginning to the ordeal of losing sight of your partner... and probably passing unseen in fog looking for one another. Simple stuff with big consequences.
Keep the reports and photos coming. Ten more years.

Zheesh I though it was Rocktober, but I guess it's Pow season.
"Powtober" doesn't have the same ring to it, but I'll take it.
Awesome shots- October looks amazing. I haven't been out to Baker much, where did you guys ski? I imagine this has to be above Table / Herman area... Coleman Pinnacle? further up?? Thanks!
four of us headed up there thinking we would ski off the summit... discovered perfect snow down low, scrapped the summit and lapped everything from 5:30 am to 3:00ish. october is my new favorite month.

Nice commitment to the sport Amar. I saw you guys dropping below Anvil Rock on my ascent on the 13th and even thought I heard you yelling to someone in your group. Did those turns just above Muir on the Cowlitz cleaver belong to someone in your group?
That was us. Our buddy Chris was audtioning for the new TGR movie...
Thanks for the info. Heading there tomorrow AM for some great turns hopefully.
congratulations on your first - and prost to your next ten solar orbits of year round skiing!
Awesome! Thanks for the beta. Could not be better weather forecasted for tomorrow!
No crampons or avy gear needed. just strong legs for lots of laps. -filthy stinking hippy
Congrats on 10 years! Looks like decent conditions too for early October!
Work gets in the way of everything.Wait to hit it.

Also, did you use or think it was needed to have avalanche gear? Maybe a foot of new over the old?
Thanks,
Thanks,
I think I was yelling back up to the others that it was really good on that slope!
Not sure who made the turns on the Cowlitz, but they were already made when we reached Muir.

Have admired your desire to keep going, and going, and going....
I couldn't have said it any better. Glad to hear you had good conditions on Rainier!
That looks absolutely amazing! I am heading there tomorrow morning (SAT). Is the slope right above the Hogsback camp still really icy (crampons)?
So stoked!
