Great report, Hawthorne.
Thanks.
Love the sunset descent Drew -- nice vid.  That crater is fantastic.
Also made a short video of that sunset on Villarica.

Great day, Silas!  Going skiing with you is always a workout.  I think I had two aneurisms, a heart arrhythmia, and a panic attack.  And that was on the drive up!  After that it was all fun and games.

Highlights of the day:  Two laps on the Paradise; Perfectly smooth corn; crossing the big crevasse on the bridge; lunching and chatting on the rocks in the sun; "jumping" the surprise crevasse; and the steep exit.  Thanks for the challenge!  Beautiful day up there!  And thanks...
Ahh, Pucon.  Fond memories of that town.  My lungs burned for about 2 weeks after being on Villarica from all the sulfer dioxide.  The lava was further down the tube when I was there so couldn't see the glow like that.  That is a really cool picture, especially with the red glow on the snow.
Good job with nurturing a trailbreaker/kicking steps for future outings. I'm using a similar strategy with my grandsons. ;)

Hey Zap, we may have to stay in touch. I ski at sierra tahoe and heavenly and snowbird.  I have a place on ski run blvd in south lake which makes things a lot easier...jim

Sounds good.  Ski Run Blvd is an ideal location in SLT.  We've spent many a night in a casino parking lot or sno park during our stays around SLT.  We had a Heavenly pass for a few years but d...

...bigger ski runs don't always have to be better when you can share it with your family

How true.   Hope you and your daughter have many more ski tours together.

Again, thanks for sharing stories from the big ski year down south!

Good advice Mack! I have my fingers crossed for a good Oct this year. The bug seems to be getting me earlier and earlier.
TAY watchwords:
Ski early in September; it won't get any better but it'll be warm.
Ski later in October and you (might) get fresh  8)
Great to see your postings.  Keep them coming.

My wife,Jill, and I usually spend March, April and part of May downhill and touring in the Tahoe area and along the Eastern Sierra.  We also have passes at Kirkwood and Squaw plus Alpine Meadows.  Being retired, we have a campervan and usually stay in the area until the spring snowpack in the PNW stabilizes.

Hopefully, we'll share some turns.
Thanks for posting and keeping us informed about Tahoe conditions.  One of TAY's former PNW locals is living in Reno now, he loves skiing summer patches, likely lurking here now and in search of September turns perhaps.

Keep 'em coming!
Should be lots of snow.  I was still hoping to get Snowdome, but I believe the parking / trail remains closed due to Dollar Lake Fire.

Timberline is fix'n to reopen on Friday, so if you want some quiet, tomorrow is your September day.  Looking to be mine.

Cheers.

Hawthorne - Welches OR

Thanks Stoudema,

I suppose I'll be heading over to Hood to get some turns for Sept, and maybe I'll I stay and get some Oct turns also! Seems a bit like cheating, getting two months in two days at the same place. But it would be my first ever 12 month run, and I could technically call myself a TAY'er!
All year, baby.

Thanks Lisa!
Glad you got out Lisa, looks like a great day.
Nice day, nice to meet you both, and thanks for providing the entertainment.  I'm almost sorry I didn't share in the stupidity.  ;)

All Mtn - honestly can't remember about the Clif bar (I do like chocolate chip), but I don't think so.

fanatic - I'd imagine given the coverage on the Palmer is still in excellent shape and would allow for a couple thousand vertical.  The White River snowfield above the Palmer would probably be worth considering....
That pebble patch is always fun.  Looks like it's been getting quite a workout this year.
Anyone know how Hood is holding up for getting in some last minute September turns??
Some cute photos of you in that album, Lisa. Good to see you aren't drowning under schoolbooks, and keeping your priorities in line ; )
Really nice evening flower/ mountain photos towards the end of  YakNams Flickr stream.
Good that you guys got it together at last to ski together.
That was one of the choices on the list - instead I went up to Ruth Mt., while a little bit more skiing the snow wasn't as soft and the drive and trail longer.  Looks like it's hanging in there enough for an October outing - looks fun.  Thanks for report.
fun day, good to meet you Jackal, Dave and Debbie!
Great trip.  thanks again for the invite.  still feeling it in my feet

apparently I'm not as good at the km to miles conversion as I thought because i was only expecting about 12 miles instead of 20.   Oh well.  makes for a better story this way.

tuskin'  or perhaps Tuscan. this crossed my mind hauling gear up the hill under the tusk-and-sun (Tuscan[d] sun)

is there a place where i can download Canadian topo maps for free?
something similar to wagd...
Nice work! Lots of work. It used to be that you could drive all the way to the microwave towers. I think that changed in '05. I miss the drive-to skiing in September!!! boo-hoo...

Well, I'm always looking for touring partners...
Nice -- still holding the goods, albeit far away.  Sorry I couldn't join you Oyvind, glad you found company!
Silaswild......I believe that was my buddy Dan and I.  We had a great ski down from 8,100' after booting and skinning up on a traverse.  Our first time coming in this way, so we weren't 100% sure where to go.  There were a lot of steep rollovers that ended with cliffs, as you saw our tracks.

We stopped when a rollover turned to rock, and started booting back up.  My buddy fell about 100', booted back up, dropped a ski back down the mountain where it...
Nice trip report!  I'd considered heading in there over Labor Day but went to Hood instead due to time constraints.  Looks like I missed out!  Glad to see you had a good time and congrats on the 24 months!

We saw recent tracks on the far west steep slopes ending at what appeared from below to be a twenty foot cliff.   Hope one or more of those who made the tracks are lurking here, and can let us know how they exited?   Thanks.   :)

Tara and I were up there on the 20th and ran into two skiers when we were crossing over from Muir to the Paradise. (Just above McClure...
Shiny, happy people.  Jealous, as usual.  Thanks for your report, Amar.
Way to keep gettin' it done.

How painful was that road biking?

Doesn't count...with this kind of motivation you have to go 3x per month.

And depending on the person, if they're that motivated, it may be 3x's/day!
Yeah Tony, just think: last time we were dawn patrolling like mad up Snoq. Mtn., those that were 5 years old, are now 10!  That's a long time ago.

Some of those Sept-November C/D days are certainly some of my best memories.

Glad the three of you had a good day.  I remember those late September/early October Baker runs.  It made me think of this song: BITD.

What about this one?

Sidestepper,

That sounds great - we live in Portland.  Voly ski patrol keeps me pretty busy during the winter but I love to get out into the bc, especially for those spring tours, so just drop a line if you're heading out!

Is that patch of snow as smooth as it looks?  What elevation?
yea amar! glad to see you guys got the same awesome snow we did. Unless you saw anyone on your way down, I think we were the only two groups up there that day
Fire Meets Ice!  Thanks for those inspiring shots!
What's that? A glay-sher?

I love seasons that start with a snowpack.

Nice report, thanks Amar!
gorgeous .. glad it all worked out for ya .. tues was the day!
