Enjoy,

Bob
Those 3 lights lowest in the night shot are of climbers on the adams glacier.

IandI

Thanks....
At least I have my bad knee to explain my bad skiing. I don't know what Josh's excuse is. Ha. Ha.

Rowing the boat. Man I'm gonna be using that a lot now.

And yep, that camera is wayy to fun.
HEY don't let my pathologies get you down!  I have a severe fetish for the rare volcano lines that drop from their summits without neverending mellow, rolling slopes before the bidness.
It must mean double pole plants.  It's pretty easy to visualize.  And hilarious.

Who's that cat styling so hard in Jason's last photo? ???
Sweet Lyman Glacier scenery and perfect corn spraying from a stylin' skier cold crushing it.  That just about makes me want to cry.

Great photos Jason!  I think I'll stop making fun of you for paying so much for a camera now.  8)

But who's the dude "rowing the boat?"  :D

I don't get it...rowing the boat?  Are you referring to Jason and Josh's chronic double pole plants?  Or maybe the parking lot hockey? ???
yes, because going up and over baker and covering 14 miles on skis is just so very dull without skiing the headwall...  ;)

i'll be back to ski the park headwall sometime soon.

Good to hear about someone doing the Watson Traverse including the Park Headwall!  That seems like the most aesthetically pleasing up-and-over on the Baker's horn.
I have narrowed my photos from this trip down to a relative few. They can be found at http://gallery.telemen.ca/main.php?g2_itemId=1893

Enjoy,

Bob
ah yes, username...we are ALL in that great summit photo. I'm the one in the blue helmet :)

As for skiing the interglacier, it's still worth the trip, but be careful.  It's starting to open up a bit.  It also gets pretty sloppy quickly, so hit it early before the sun bakes it.

have fun!

Nice report, Martin.
And great pic of Hood.
We did the Chutes on Sunday as well, albiet not as quick as you did.
Welcome to Turns-All-Year.
How was the skiing on the Interglacier? Is it still a worthwhile destination? I'm thinking of heading up there on Sunday for a one day outing...
  Richard
Thanks for the report, Chester. Welcome to turns-all-year!
That's a GREAT video. And the skiing didn't look so bad either! I drove around the north side saturday on the way to meeting my brother for the southwest chute and was awstruck. What a cool mountain! Looks like a fun time.
Thanks Michael.  Yes, a few four letter words were involved, followed by the the 3 letter word, Joe. ;D  Fortunately we didn't leave any body parts on the mountain, just a boot buckle and a few ski straps entangled in the shrubery.
Aaron, I enjoyed reading about your journey.  Your ski route was almost identical to our ski route a few years ago.  Zap
Perhaps we are both here in this photo, on the front page of Gauthier's Rainier blog:

So which of you folks was the comedian?  I was wondering if your group had a contributing TAY member...and that I was going to be able to, yet again, roll you over with my 3-hour-in-the-making retort.

But alas, no mention of "what's the worst part of being a snowboarder?", so I'll need to keep waiting...

;-)

Anyway, it was great to see your group had success on the traverse, we had a great chuckle, and thanks again for taking our Summit P...
No problems walking out Bachelor and Downey other than the usual (long ways!).  Once you leave the little hanging valley beyond Cub Lake you walk through a pick up stick forest of avalanche debris to pick up the trail in the woods again.  It's much easier to follow coming down than going up!
Hell Yeah! Nice footage! Nice Goats!

But who's the dude "rowing the boat?"  :D
Nice film! You forced me to buy the sound track.
easily, this is some of Phil's best editing to date! :)
I love long walks in the Park (HW) 8)
same dogs
they actually both turned around and chased me - had to stop concerned they would get in my turns
Did you exit the traverse via Bachelor & Downey Creeks & the Suiattle River Road?  I thought that there are bridges out on both the trail and the road that make this impassable right now---or so the Forest Service claims.

Thanks
Nice job!  Park looks sweet...
Nice TR Paul and great pictures.

The skis definitely deserve a "+" marking for the BW - so I take it you used quite a few four letter words? ;-)

probably a good thing I didn't see the Park headwall before skiing it.  best park i've been in :D

thousand thanks to everyone for the great day.
Nice trip you guys.  You certainly brought the good weather with you.
Way to knock out a volcano road trip.
Nick, I got your message about joining you for a ski on Rainier.  Unfortunately I was on Adams when you left it or I would have joined you.
I didn't get the message until my return on Monday.  Next time, eh?
Indeed. Sounds like your timing was perfect.  :)
Thanks a lot you guys for the information.  Much appreciated.

We met the unruly dogs on our way in, around 5,900'. Dogs generally don't scare me and when I called to them, they seemed confused, but continued to bark at us. All the while, their owners were yelling them to stop. Not a positive experience if you have problems with dogs in the backcountry.
I would say you could go very light given the conditions.  I would get a good map/compass or gps to zero in on the trail in the trees if you haven't been up there before.

The climbers trail up is pretty pedestrian up to the col.

There are crevasse issues, but I should have left my axe and other things at home and just taken the whippet/helmet/skis.
was there on the same dates.  opted for the south face as well.  i have been riding the SW Chutes several times each season for a number of years.  the south face tends to get sun cupped- looked like vanilla ice cream.... sweet corn cream
hope you did not get chased by the dogs that the couple had and had no control over.... worst example of dogs outside i have ever seen.
Hm, well I only see one set of tracks on that side in that photo, those being made by the skier.  So unless I didn't leave any tracks... (oddly I don't remember hucking that big, but I guess I could have been a little out of it.  ;D)
Well, actually, I do think those pics are of Eli and me skiing since we hit camp at 1:10pm (and crossed 2 other tracks(username?)-the only 2 people skiing in front of us!).

The track you see crossing the Winthrop from St. Elmo's is the Liberty Ridge route.  Um, no thanks.

Eli-thanks for posting a TR. I'm just now getting around to doing that sort of thing!  Awesome trip, but skis make for a heavy pack on the way to camp....I do it again to avoid walking...
HUGE congrats, Eric!!!

I've found similar conditions during a few previous trips up that way.  Earlier in the year, the roadway is blocked by snow and the area is overrun (by my standards) by snowmachines; by the time you can drive up close, the only obvious skiing is on relatively short, mellow runs in sheltered bowls.  I've heard that there is better skiing available earlier in the year in slide paths above the road (surely Mazama folks have scouted these thoroughly), but I've been far too e...
Right on. I skiied it Saturday. Saw some other skiiers and some other tracks. The whole run from top to bottom was great, though some of the terrain from about 8,000 feet down was a bit sun cupped and runnelled. Pretty bitchin for sure though.
Yeah, we parked below slate peak, which I believe is beyond hart's pass.  But, it maybe melted out my now.  The only snow on the road was at the two hairpins.  The first is where we parked and then there was one other hairpin that also had snow.  The snow at the hairpins was maybe 3 feet deep tops.  The rest of the road was snow free.

On the way up we cut the hairpins and scrambled directly up hill to join the road.  On the way back down we decided t...
Thanks ultragrrl.  So you parked below Harts Pass.  Did you then ski the road all the way to slate pass?  I'm hoping to get in to the Buckskin Ridge TH which is at slate pass.  Any additional info you could provide would be great.

Thanks,
Scott
Funny film phil. Ha. Those goats were sure cool.

Mount Adams is my favorite mountain. I'm glad my knee allowed me one more trip this year. I may get one or two more before surgery. We'll see. At least the bad knee will help me with my terrible gorrilla downhill turn.  ;) I need all the practice I can get.

sorry bout rain, looks like you had good time anyway - as always, we should all quit jobs so can ski any day we want ;)
Hey there,  I'm the guy who was sleeping in the middle of the trail at Squaw lake on Sat morning.  Thanks for the nice wakeup call.  I went up Sat and bivyed just below the middle summit of Daniels.  Four other friends came up later in the afternoon and we had a great night on top.  The snow was a little soft, and you are right about those sun cups.  They made the ski decent a little trickier in places.  When I was ascending Daniels by myself I came to the...
This was a very good trip with good company. A lot of people on the mountain over the weekend. Surprising that knowone else was skiing the route. Conditions were exceptional.
I was camping on the summit of the 3rd burrough on saturday night and I noticed a traverse line that seemed to go from St Elmos pass all the way accross the winthrop glacier and as far as the eye could see does anyone know anything about this track
very envious I am.... nice job knocking out all those miles and vert. in one day!
