It was a perfect day for the Slush Cup  ;D.  What a great bunch of participants, and a special thanks to our very own lifeguard Jen, who diligently rescued several pair of sunglasses from the deep end.  More photos here  :D.

and the winner is... ;D

great shots everyone, it was a blast up there for sure!  i liked the additional props, ie, blow up lady, viking helmet, and inflatable moose.  one question though--who won the mushroom award??

thanks to everyone for a hilarious day, and a special high 5 to those who took some big diggers, or who took on a little more than their fair share of pond water... ;)
Here's a photo Jeanette shot of Kevin (AKA John Deer, because we only knew him by his hat and classic style last year) going in hard ;D
Thanks to those of you who put this together, it was indeed a hoot!!  I was smiling all the way home, what a great group of folks!!  That was too much fun!  ;D

Tom, we left the skins at home and traveled as light as possible.  It was a good day with Great friends for a fine August ski topped of with a therapeutic soak in Ice water.
Here's where you can send your Slush Cup photo(s) for the "cover" (anti-spam format, and don't save it as it is a junker):

If you want to send unedited photos that's fine, I will crop/resize. If you want to do the editing yourself, here are the guidelines:

max width = 630 pixels
landscape orientation preferred

My wife and I were hiking Hannegan Peak yesterday and we saw you skiing down the mountain - I figured it would be someone from turns-all-year. Did you skin up to the peak or did you hike up to the top and then ski down? It was a hot day to be hiking with all that equiptment. We jumped in the river, as well, after the hike - man, is that water cold!
WOW - looks like you guys all a lot of fun - I would have loved to be there.

JW - that picture is AWESOME!!

Nate has photo-proof of Sam actually in the water up to his neck, though it happened far less frequently than in my own pond-crossings.

Ahh yes, but I did manage to keep my hair dry all day! 8)  I love pond skimming!  Good times, for sure!

Yo Phil - Your skis look damn near vertical when you hit the water, making for the ideal back flop.  8)

This was alot of fun, and nice to see many old and new faces.  ;)
If only we could have the Slush Cup in May or June...

This time of year has become an everything-but-skiing period for me - sorry to miss the festivities again. It looks like the planners got it just right for the condition of the pond, and the weather obviously cooperated nicely. Congratulations!

Are any of you photographers interested in sending me photos to run on the TAY "cover"? I could put up a new photo every couple of days, just like a much more well known...
Ditto -- What a great day and nice to meet so many TAY folks!!  Far more fun than I could have expected.  Here are my pics and a few video clips.  If you want full-res just click on the bottom of the pic:

Amazing that there's still a snow finger there! Nice work, and a nice walk in the woods, to boot...
Dang, it looks like its melted out quite a bit since we were out there two weeks ago.  Guess that's the late summer for ya.  Still a sweet looking run though!
Fantastic day -- nice to meet so many of you.  Nate has photo-proof of Sam actually in the water up to his neck, though it happened far less frequently than in my own pond-crossings.

Now, where's this "winter" thing I've heard so much about?
what a fantastic time!  great to catch up with folks I haven't seen since last season and great to finally put faces with names of so many TAY'ers. already looking forward to next year!

....can't wait to see the movies that get produced from all the footage.
Yeah, it was great. Couldn't believe how many people showed up. Can't wait til next year!!! :)
Lookin at this pic this morning gives me the shivers all over again! ;D

Tons of fun, sun and carnage.
Well that definitely kills my skiing plans for next Saturday. Thanks for the report, Nick.
OK, so Plan A on Friday was to drive up to the Black Tusk microwave towers, ski the remaining snowfields Friday PM and Saturday with a car-camp  overnight.  I had heard ominous rumours of a new gate being constructed on the BT Forestry Road.

However, after having dropping off the part of my family who are relocating to Toronto, as well as my wife at the airport (she's just there to help for a week, not relocating, as far as I know  ;D) I headed up 99. ...

You call that thing a glacier?

Yeah, I know what you mean.  But this is CO, not the NW, and they call it one here.  Actually, it extends quite a bit farther up on climbers right going out towards one route of access to James Peak(out of view of the picture, beginning about a third of the way up the pitch in the picture), but that was in much worse shape (because...
check out tyndall or ptarmagain glaciers near flattop mtn in rocky mountain national park, they should be in better shape than st marys, thier also a little steeper,, i bet the arapahoe glacier still is in good shape,, i skiied it last year mid september,, got about 1300v in on primo corn at a nice pitch, it is "illegal" cause it is the headwaters for the boulder watershed,, you can avoid the authorities if you scramble up to the saddle to the south about a qwuarter mile to the east of...
You call that thing a glacier?
You have earned my admiration!
That looks like a lot of hard work for August turns.
Makes me realize how lucky we have it in the PNW. :D

I now vote you the " Gimp Master"
Gimp Master Silas- sounds like a name a rapper would have 8)
Nice pictures Paul! I think you should make that video - it would be hilarious!

Enjoy,

Here are few questions that I frequently want to ask the perplexed ??? public:

Did you forget your skis?
Is it really worth it to just go hiking?
Did you find dirt? Is there really dirt in MRNP?
Some people just don't know when to stay at home and watch football.
That there is some fine gimping!!!!!!!!!!! :D
Telemon looking styling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Paul, what you experience is normal...  i get that "bewildered" feeling all the time, especially walking around VA with skis.

nice photos, btw.
Silas,
I'm pleased you give credit where credit is due and recognize that as my run! ; ::)
Beautiful pictures. Thanks for posting ;D

What, Silas?  No layers of skiers throughout every instant of a delcious corn-devouring turn?  No animations?

Words alone can't express my disappointment.

;)  (It'll take smileys.)

Here you go. :)  Nikki skis for the crowd on her Public Enemies.
A fun day out for sure!  Cool pics Kam and Greg!
More photos are posted here.
Thanks to all that participated!  It was fun and a great learning event.

I think we improved our techniques for two person rope team rescues, rappelling to a disabled victim, Canadian Drop Loop with a short rope, tension release knots and using multiple pulley systems.

Greg - I told you the wrong length of the ropes.  They are 35 m rather than 37 m.  We cut 70 m ropes in half.

Allyson - I'm no scientist (as you know), but I don't think VA...
Nice work Silas!
But, what's with the fog you keep getting? ;)

Sorry I missed this weekend's trip Silas, I didn't get your message until Sat night.
Looks like you had a good time and hopefully avoided the hike we did last week. :D
Sweet photos, guys..looks like you made far better turns than I did last week- congrats!
Yeah, that was a fun day! The Glacier Class students will have it easy next year carrying those 37m x 9.1mm ropes!

Here a few pictures of Wolf and his devil duck.

Click to Quack

dusted the cobwebs off my 195 k2 Extremes (the ones with the 'budweiser racing team' graphics I found at a Goodwill store in college for $20) and Becky's equally old Tua Megas...suprisingly little damage to them.

Ha!  Nice...  My only turns this weekend were left and right, getting into the Fremont transfer station...

And hey, free stone grind!  Which of the quiver qualifies as the "rock" skis these days?
Nice report, Wolfs.
Great photos.
Way to enjoy the mountain.  Great idea, motoring up to the Sourdough Ridge to watch the stars com out.
Sweeeet dune, Pete.
That may be the best one I's seen of all the dune reports.

The Whistler side of the operation frowns on hauling skis on the gondolas, as "it will encourage others with less experience to perhaps follow..."

That comment brings back memories.  Back in the eighties I responded to an offer to convert my Whistler winter seasons pass to  to an unlimited summer pass for 30 bucks or thereabouts.  So in mid Ju...
