Congrats on the early season powder!  Was it yesterday you did that or today...you may have misdated your post.  I was surprised to see weather conditions so favorable given that it's been snowing like crazy this afternoon over here in north Idaho!
Thanks for your recent reports on the conditions.  Maybe I'll see you up there after the next storm or two  8).

Congratulations to Andy as well!!  To do anything for 120 months/10 years requires real perseverance.  There are so many things that could have stopped your streak-  illness, injury, family vacations, lose interest, and so on.  But none of those things happened and you join an elite and special crew!.  So thanks Andy for inviting Scott and I along to share a special day.
Congrats to Andy on 10 years of TAY!  Here's a photo of Andy making the most of the Muir snowfield.
wolfs and I were there as well. We started up from paradise at 7:15am (had to be back early). The asphalt paths were most icy and treacherous, especially where someone had boarded down the day before. We thought our early turn around time of 10:30 would result in boilerplate skiing, but somehow things had softened quite nicely in the time it took from pebble creek to moon rocks. What a great day (err...morning!) Sure was glad that the asphalt had melted out on the way down.

It would b...

Jason,
I love you.  Thanks for the great pics and cool website.  But please remember that my life is worth more than your camera!  If only you could see the scabs on my forehead.  I think I'm mentally damaged from getting bashed in the head with your skis; I'll no longer take responsibility for my rash behavior.

Also thanks to Dave and Phil for a great time on the Bake...

Also thanks to Dave and Phil for a great time on the Baker's Horn.  Even if the cornucopia was frozen...
Nice to bump into ya Silas, Paul, Kenji and others.  Yeah jimjar and I felt extremely lazy and decided to lap the cream of the corn.  This is after I told myself I would make it to Muir for the exercise.  Only over 2k to go.  So close, almost there.  What a lazy expletive!

On a sad note did anyone see my Guiness (empty of course).  I left it next to jimjars pack between laps and upon return it vanished.  Knowing that someone picked up my trash is a g...
Thanks guys, I've been working hard to do as good a job as I can :) I'm glad you enjoyed them all.
Blitz, Stewie and I tried to ski Muir on Sunday 29th. We left  the carpark with temps at 27'deg and strong winds. We hiked to about the top of Alta Vista and aborted due to extremely high winds.

You guys picked the right day! ;D Asphalt paths where extremely icy !
Scotsman.
Jas - You should know by now that Mr. Sjue never tires!  8)

As Tony said, those are some amazing pics.  That camera appears to be worth every penny!  Nice job.
TonyM, Scott and I skinned up to Muir and skied down from there. Very "variable" conditions from windblown patches of new snow to water ice to just plain dirty snow. Picking the best route down to skiers left yielded some pretty good turns, considering. The wind was gusty, but nothing like as bad as other times up there!
Jeah Jason. That is one hell of a camera you got there.
Great picture, Jason. "Phil and Dave roped up" is a winner, too.
Thanks Dave, it was a great day to get out.

Here's a pic:

Here's some more.  This is a new webpage that I am working on. Since I had time today, I put this part up, but most links are not working or are half done cause I'm not finished with everything yet.  I will be soon :) Hope you guys enjoy. http://w...
Hi AndyMartin, congratulations on completing 10 years! If you would like have your profile added to the year round skiers page, send me a PM and I will get you the details of how to send it to me. I'm one month behind you at 119. Steve (atacomite) is early on in his streak, Friday's ski representing month number 1. Great conditions for starting a streak!

Did any of the Saturday skiers go up onto the upper Muir, above Moon Rocks? With the high winds and the dirty look of the...
climbinghighest, good to meet you in the fog! How high did you guys climb? I'm really interested to find out how the Muir snowfield was above Moon Rocks.

Shoot, Silas, that wasn't my usual timeframe.  I made a point of waking up early—12 noon departure from the parking lot—in recognition of the season of limited daylight now fast upon us.  Made it back to the car before dark, too.

I ran into a group of lurkers from Olympia as well as many of the aforementioned. A goo...
All true - a great day for month 120!
I'll get around to posting a profile one of these fine days...............
Hey Silias, thought I saw you ski by.... Kenji and I were there.  This was number 37 for me.  First time I waited to the last weekend of the month and was really thankful for good weather!
There's a good pic, no need for mine :).
Great way to spend a Friday!  Thanks Charles!!
I'll concur with that, the snow was very interesting. Never really seen snow like that. It made for excellent turns though. All in all it was a good day. I'll post pics later today, once I get them edited.
The USGS is reporting that St. Helens incident as a combination earthquake/rockslide involving the new "sharkstooth" in the crater - check out their cool animated before-and-after GIF .

God dad!! im not vegan im vegetarian!!! >:(

I think the younger generation is going to show us old farts how to live. My 10-year-old son has decided that he doesn't eat beef. I don't know where that came from, but it sounds fine to me.

On the other hand, I was weaned on McDonald's hamburgers and french fries, so I'm beyond help.  ;)
Ah, why if it isn't my arch nemesis, Rocky Blue.
Really nice pictures, Joe.  Looking at them, it almost seems like winter is coming on.  Almost.
Stewie, my apologies. I stand corrected. You are also not an English major judging by your post so hit those grammer books son ! ;D
Well done, Stewie! You've done well to survive your dad's initiation, he always tries to kill his ski partners off via weather, or inedible heatlamp "goodness."
God dad!! im not vegan im vegetarian!!! >:(
JibberD,
My little ripper has decided to be a vegan and won't enjoy the delights of a tasty burrito that has cured under the heat lamp for 12 hrs at the Ashford gas station ::) some people just don't know what the are missing! ;D  They are yummy in my tummy!! 8)
Chris, I thought that photo was showing a little shine on top ::)...  Is that new, or do I only see you in hat wearing environments?  The first time I went up to Muir I didn't wear a hat.  It was a bluebird day and man, did my scalp get cooked?  Speaking of cooked, did you get Stewie one of those nasty, overcooked burritos from the gas station on the way home from Paradise?

It is great to see that you're bringing in the next generation.
I think the visor with a bald head was a gutsy move on my behalf , but you know I think it worked for me! ;)
Scottie.
Hi Matt - We usually plan for it take 3 hours from Portland to Paradise. Sometimes it'll take a bit longer; sometimes a bit quicker. An inexpensive place to stay close to Rainier is the Whittaker's Bunkhouse:
http://www.whittakersbunkhouse.com/

I've actually never stayed there, but my friends Ann & Andy use to.
Stewart,

Nice to see someone found the goods on Sunday.  That looks way less scratchy than what I found by Baker.  Should have gone to Muir and brought Brett (13yrs) with me, then the two of you really could have kept us oldsters in line.  Though If I introduce Brett to you, he'll expect me to get him some new Mantras too...

Keep on finding that snow.

-Dave R

Hey, check out the Steven's Pass web cam!
Most of the time you just see the bear's butt sticking up out of the bushes.  Not too exciting nor scenic.  Here's a shot where he/she came up for air.  Obviously carb loading for the upcoming ski season.

-Dave
Nice report Jeff!  I can't wait to get out to Hood on Saturday (lots of studying for my professional engineering exam has kept me w/o turns yet this month, but the test is on Friday, so turns will commence on Saturday).  I've been wanting to get up to Muir for a while now.  How long does it take you to get there from Portland?  I'm wondering how many hours/days I should plan on from the Eugene/Corvallis area of the valley.  Also, is there a good place at Paradise to spend the nigh...
Hey there Stewie, your Dad is stoked to have a new touring partner, I'm sure.  You're getting into the best sport out there as far as I'm concerned.  Here's to many years of turning all year!

Nice pics Ron.  Good to see the gang doing what it does best.
Stewart, that may be the best "First Post" trip report I've seen.  High Five.
Looks like we may be able to spare you for at least one more trip  ;)

The weather and snow conditions teamed up for some spectacular skiing; the best ever for the patch this time of year.

Below are shots of Scotty lapping the rest of us and Jerry demonstrating his very best TAY form.

More pictures
I wanna see a bear!!! lol  ;D
A great day on the mountain and better conditions then anticipated! It was for me as well my first (and last ;-) ?) complete year of TAY, I didn't really have this as an objective, but after Ron commented on our trip on Baker in August saying that it was a good way to get the August turns in I realized I was close to the 12 month streak - so I figured why not. Of course I thought I had only September missing and only realized a couple of weeks ago that Oct was missing as well...

...
We did catch St Helens blowing some smoke. Here's a photo. Soon we will be skiing that.  :)
Lovely pictures Jeff.  It was a lovely weekend. ::)Did you see Mt.St. Helens erupt on Sat afternoon or where you down by then?
We estimated about 16" of new snow with a nice breakable crust around 8500-9000'.  There was certainly enough new snow to completely cover some of the narrower gaps, while not enough to make a solid bridge yet.  After Oyvind stepped  through one we slowed down a bit and did a lot more probing with the ice axe.

October turns worth the effort.

Some Pictures here.

It was hard to believe such a change in only a week. Last week it was a full on blizzard  conditions and a week later, it's t-shirts and dreaming of frozen margaritas. 8)
Although the patch is small , it's steep and so much fun when the snow is that good. Hero corn!

Very proud of my son, he fitted into the "Paradise Posse" just fine. ;D
Thanks to all.

However, this warm and sunny weather must now come to an immediate stop and it must start...
Yes, there were a couple sets of Trab/F1's up there.  My wife and I met Micheal and Greg L on our way down- I was carring 2 pair Trabs.  My wife hurt her knee in July (Ice on Mt Hood) and is still milking the injury- so I get to carry everything; but her boots- a training opportunity!

We skied the snowfield to the left of the main track- 7450 to 7800????  The snow had been better the last few trips(couple months).  The runnels were pretty much filled in and a slope with no tracks...
Stewart, it was great having you along, someone has to keep "Scottie" in line  ;D.  This particular October ski was one of the best I can ever remember, with at least 2 to 3 inches of fresh over a very bullet proof base.  After several laps, there was still enough fresh left over for several more trips.  With the beautiful clear sunny skies and vibrant fall colors, it was a perfect day spent with great friends.  Thanks Chris for the never ending source of "...
Nice job Stewart, good thing there was hiking;)
Maybe Nicky can get out there with you and you guys can do your avi training together.

You would have been excited to see Michael, Patrizia, Rick and I together, probably the highest concentration of Trab users in North America yesterday (and two pair of F1's "to boot")!

Yes I would have been excited to see that! In fact, I'm excited just to hear that I was in such close proximity to such a group.
It seems when they turned on the heater for the water gauge (10-18), snow melted into the instrament, creating a false reading.

That being said, all the new snow melted in the rains of Thursday/Friday.
