a group of us went out to practice crevasse rescue and other business on sunday.  we found a perfect crack for such business at about 7500', and spent a good portion of the day monkeying around on it.  besides practicing techniques, we had a few good turns too.  highlights included:  darryl making a daring rescue of jw's camera bag that slipped into the crack; skip and kam tangling their toes in an "unconscious" victim rescue; monika making z pulley sandwiches; ron j taunting the victims in the hole; maureen's relentless efforts to drive an axe into glacial ice; and jw capturing many of the best and worst moments on film.  way to go team!!  ;D
Yeah, that was a fun day! The Glacier Class students will have it easy next year carrying those 37m x 9.1mm ropes!

Sweet photos, guys..looks like you made far better turns than I did last week- congrats!

Thanks to all that participated!  It was fun and a great learning event.

I think we improved our techniques for two person rope team rescues, rappelling to a disabled victim, Canadian Drop Loop with a short rope, tension release knots and using multiple pulley systems.

Greg - I told you the wrong length of the ropes.  They are 35 m rather than 37 m.  We cut 70 m ropes in half.

Allyson - I'm no scientist (as you know), but I don't think VA has glaciers.  Good luck to you and Kam!

A fun day out for sure!  Cool pics Kam and Greg!
