Hi Niko - we parked underneath the Eagles at the gate / turnoff road to the white salmon lodge.  I have done the diagonal traverse downwards and it sucks.  I have done the higher traverse and that is doable ok.  I do prefer to go up the road towards C8, take the spur road on left just before the short uphill to the chair, at the end of this road drop the clearcut to valley bottom.  This is really fast with the snowpack we have now.  You do loose elevation, but i think it...
not exactly news to me now .. having already read your's and jace's great reports and drooled over all of j's awesome photos .. but this trip still blows me away dude ... you know how i feel about your loss .. and not exactly stellar weather either .. way to get out there guys and get er done in spite of all the hardships! can't wait for the next edition .. be safe as always

Thank you for the kind responses they are truly appreciated.

Lowell that photo is amazing.
"I was surprised
to see so much new snow there was.Luckily Louie and Gregg we're ahead of us
and they broke trail right to the summit."

Very surprised!  Could not believe the depth and quality of the snow.  the smart thing would have been to lap heliotrope but we were on a mission to get to the ski area.:)
Thanks for your report.  As usual, I am envious(green).  Great pics and thanks for all the labels on the NWHikers TR.  Hook Creek, eh?
Hi Oyvind:

Excellent ski & report. I'm writing to ask you about the quote below. A friend and I attempted Shuksan one day after you but had to abort the trip because of an equipment glitch. We parked at the lodge, got up at 3AM, left around 3:30 (mistake), followed the boundary road leading to C-8 lift, cut across (mistake?) the clear cut, then descended diagonally through the trees and a bunch of gullies in complete darkness, trying to stay high (mistake). We did save a coup...
I'm guessing it's the one at the top of this picture:
http://www.pbase.com/nolock/image/35673114
that connects the apron with the summit ridge?
Wow, that's an incredible trip!  The report and pics are amazing.

Kyle, I wish you all the best vibes in dealing with your loss.

So any more pics or details about the top of Fernow?  I'm trying to figure out which couloir is Inferno on the map...  That's sooo far to get into.  Way to go!

. I settled for some 90's style turns trying not to get taken out by my sluff.

They look great.  ;)

.We skinned an extra 2000 grand to get 10000 for
the day.

;)
Stunning....and not just the pictures.
Wonderful trip!  Thanks for the inspiration, I now have to put it in my calendar.
Great trip and photos Franklin!! That must have been you camped out at the pullout by Hook Creek Friday morning.
Sorry for you loss, Kyle, but thanks for the great write up.

2nd on that, Jason!
Your TR and images are great.  While I'm recovering from a spine surgery, I'm enjoying your TR.  Keep posting at TAY.  ;)
Fantastic images and TR.  The full report at NW Hikers  is great.  I've only been in the Enchantments in the late summer and fall and your detailed routes/images provided a great perspective.  Thanks.
Great trip Kyle and Jason.

Kyle, I hope you find peace with your loss. I feel for you...

Top shelf stuff gentlemen.

Great write up Kyle and fantastic photos as always Jason.

Here's to many more big adventures and safe returns.
Wow Jason -- that last shot... Gorgeous.  Was that a pretty wide angle lens, or is that ridge really that narrow?

For the record it should be noted that Phil Fortier (accompanied by Dave Coleman) skied the North Face of Mt Fernow in July 2007. Phil's descent started at the top of the apron (below the final couloir) and he didn't tag the summit, so it wasn't as complete as your descent. It was reported in NWMJ #5 here:

I heard about a couple of IMG guides who ticked off the line in 2008....

Hi Ken,

Got a name or is that just a rumor?  I've been working at RMI for 7 years and hadn't heard that any one had skied the line.  Also my roommate has worked at IMG for 6 years and hasn't heard of it either.
Outstanding on all levels!

Did you tag the summit on Bonanza? How far from the summit did you start your descent? I did a winter a...

we might need a special trip to Gries in Sellrain for my favorite apfel struedel mit vanilla sauce.

Silas, if you like that, ask around for a dampf knoedel mit vanilla sosse. Kind of like a sweet hum-bow stuffed with cherries and covered with the sauce. My favorite teutonic dessert!
Kyle, sorry for your loss.

All my ski trips to Holden have been a mixture of weather.  The village is a perfect location for ski touring adventures. I remember touring into lower Copper Creek basin and crossing numerous avy debris paths.  I still remember looking at the upper terrain where you and Jason ventured. WOW.

Jason's images are beautiful.  Lowell's photo provides a nice perspective of the objective.

Condolences on the loss of your father, Kyle. I still miss my dad, and it's been 34 years.

I thought you and Jason might appreciate this picture of your route. I took it during a ski trip in 2000.

For a while after I took this picture, I thought I wanted to ski the summit pyramid of Bonanza. But I lost interest in that kind of skiing after my brother Carl died. I've been holding onto...

Really? Any details?
I'm so sorry for your loss, Kyle.  Condolences to all.

Three 9k peaks in a week, are you guys on some sort of mission?  Having scrambled the route on Bonanza dry, it's amazing to see how it is now.  Congratulations!  Y'all be carefull out there.  Nice pics, Jason!

Great work you all, skiing one of the few remaining unskied routes on the Mountain. (If someone has skied the Ice Cliff before, I'd like to find out about it!)

I like how in the third photo you can look back to see where you were in the first one, a sweeping revolution of a view.  But where's the descent tracks?! I wanna see...

Thanks!  We had a great time out there.  Here are a couple of photos, one you can make out our tracks from the bottom of the run.  Scott may have some better photos he ca...
So sorry for your loss Kyle -- I hope Bonanza was good for your head and I'm impressed you rallied to do it after news like that.  Thanks for sharing the story.
Well done gents! Jealous you got to that line before me! :D
Very nice work guys! Sorry to hear of your loss Kyle...the mountains are a good place to heal.
The backpack gives him a better aerodynamic profile.

Great TR guys, nice job.  I love the Whistler bear population.
I spy Allen in his backcountry-downhill-racer-with-a-backpack tuck.

Well done! As Pete and I were skiing back to the Whistler base on Saturday I commented that the only thing that would make the trip better would be if we were to see a bear (saw one at the midstation several years ago.)  Looks like you guys got that nugget of coolness! Great pics!

Thanks! what was really weird was that the bear was only about 100yds or meters or wha...
Sweet, thanks Larry -- I've been wondering what you were up to over there.  Glad to here you're still getting good snow.

We enjoyed similar conditions on the Iago and the Diavolo :) Euphemistically the skiing was described as "fast" and "technical". Instead of the Singing Pass trail we slogged up Oboe and Flute before enjoying the best turns of the day down slushy groomers back to the village.

Good work on your route...we saw you at one stage in the distance and adm...

Yes.. nice to meet you. Great campsite. Yes..we went straight down the Macbeth. It was an icy death ski over frozen avy debris and coral reef skin tracks followed by an icy death skin track up the other side that I booted at several steep bits, then a survival ski on breakable crust down the Overlord Glacier with a traverse to the hut.... followed by some actual enjoyable luge skiing down the...
Nice work you two, getting out to a seldom-skied aspect of an oft-skied mountain. Great photos, stunning day. Love the view of Mt Adams centered above the deep notch in the rim carved by the Shoestring Glacier.

I've long been planning to ski that side (probably human-powered after Road 81 melts out), but have never made it there yet. Someday...

Nice work, Becky and Pete! You nailed the weather window. We were a day behind you... Saturday was gorgeous, Sunday dawned nice but clouded up quickly. The snow stayed crusty all day but at least the weather held until we reached Flute summit in a whiteout at mid-afternoon. Awesome traverse, would love to do some more skiing along the way next time!

Hey Scotsman, you must have been the...
Thanks for the great trip and your photos John!
