[Mesahchie Glacier]
This place is hidden from the highway, a part of Ragged Ridge between Fisher and Panther Creeks. We started skiing out of Easy Pass TH, but quickly switched to hiking through dry forest. Sally had some doubt until we rounded corner into a tributary to Granite Cr. After about 4 miles in, we reached the large basin along the North side of the ridge. Mesahchie is the first high peak as you enter the basin. Its glacier+snowfield provide a great 2500' run from...

If we can avoid having another Baker TR turn into a snowmobile discussion that'd be great -- maybe someone can start a thread in Random Tracks (or revive one of the ones from years past).
Sorry to post another Mt. Baker trip focusing on SM. I didnt see the thread Amar posted. In the spirit of moving it away from snow mobiles, below is a short vide...
Awesome Lowell. That was an great story and images. Loved 'em. Crispin. We need to get out skiing. Either way I'm sure we'll run into each other again.
BTW, another way to cross backbone ridge is to use the couloir between dorado and marble needles. It's a reasonably steep line (45 or more degrees?)...but a great ski if in condition. After you ski to the bottom, you climb/skin between morning spire and marble needle. It's a very fun line as long as your pack...

Nice pics. Great dog in motion shot.
What a day, indeed! The weather was incredible. I had to add a couple of images of the TR author, of course.

Looks like a great trip from the photos! Thanks for the report Lowell.

to the summit.
Thought it would be interesting to post the exact same photo from Oct., 2011 (7 months prior).
The near backcountry had no tracks in it when we went out past Widowmaker. Skied back over to Shot 5 which was great if dirty. Eisfallen skied nicely again. Got really grabby below the lower gun mount. This was my friend's first time skiing at Alpental and she left convinced about its superiority.
Next time I think I'll bring my skins. Sorry about any footprints I made in the skin track.plan t

Great photos. Is there a chance for a map with your route marked?
The TR includes a link to one of my Cascade Crest stories:

Nice report and photos. I've skied Mt Scott only from Rim Drive. Neat to see what it looks like from the other side.
Rough start with the speeding ticket from the super trooper, but I was stoked to keep the birthday tours going from Waddington, Logan, Baker and Sahale.
Great photos. Is there a chance for a map with your route marked?
PLENTY of snow up there. It was pretty mushy from the top of International last night, but skied well.
Thanks for the report! Still top to bottom coverage?

Spectacular!....and way to slip through the weather window!
Lisa thanks for your comments.

I must clarify that my ski off the summit was in the first week of June 1998 or 1997, I can't remember, but not '08. It was the first year Dee began working at Schurman so that would clarify which year. I skied it with David Gottlieb and the late Joe Puryear

Is Emily now a Dynafit athlete? Looks like she is modeling 2014 prototype TLT 6 without the tongue! :D
Lisa, wonderful comment!

The mountain may very well have been skied off the summit by a woman before myself. I don't know but would not be surprised. Maybe Lowell has some data.
Dee Molenaar's latest edition of The Challenge of Rainier has information about the first ski descent of the mountain by a woman. She was Erline Reber of Yakima, who skied from the summit on August...

Looks like I've got some exploring to do. I keep forgetting WA has more than one mountain range! The pictures make the skiing look good up there!
Yeah, I can ski that, but only if I knew I had more than one life to spare. Maybe in my next life. It's one thing to be able ski the steep and exposed terrain, but it adds a whole new element when you've got hours of climbing behind you and got to have enough energy reserves to ski the terrain without incident. Great work!
Nice post Jessie.
Probably obvious to many who have spent time skiing out here, but there is really no question of whether it was done in a day before by a woman. I don't really want to get into some kind of contest about who did what first, and I'm not sure that many of the women I know would appreciate being pulled into a petty argument. Without doing any actual research, off the top of my head, the first to have done this (that I know of) wa...
I was up there on Saturday, under partly sunny skies, and the smooth, untracked snow under chair 2 was deceiving. I felt like I was skiing on glue on the upper part of the mountain. Once I got down to the lower mountain the skiing was much better. Glad to hear it was less mushy.
I planned on doing the same route on 5/25. The 30 mph steady winds led to a quick change in direction at silcox hut. Plenty of sun on lower slopes but above silcox was in cloud bank. I got some nice but shallow untracked powder going back down. Too much sun effect on the powder so not worth the second lap on a slope that is not very exciting. I did appreciate powder turns at the end of May.
Glad you rolled the dice with us on the weather, Lowell. A fine outing regardless of lack of sleep on 1st night due to strong E wind. Skoog's Cavern (snow cave) provided relative quiet on 2nd night. True ski bliss-glisse.

Did they skip glacier peak?
Yes. Below is a link to a post Sting did last week w/ a video clip of Chris' final Volcano words.

Turn off is just south of Camp creek, as for heading for the "Deroux-Big Boulder" trailhead -- but bear left and cross Camp creek instead of bearing right.
Emily's Jeep managed the water bars, but I don't think my CRV would have gotten above 3600ft on that old mining road.

Which road is this? Camp Creek? Boulder Creek? The road to Jolly Mtn TH?
Nicely done... I figure you'd get a lot of flex out of the heel on those.
- weather forecasting, stream crossings & traffic mgmt., that's dedication. she looks pretty dressed up; next to the skis w/ the (funny lookin' binders, just kidding).
sounds like a great trip Lowell, John and Crispin !

Agree, excellent TR and pics. Way to go fellas.
Love that feeling of covering vast mileage "for free"--skiing plain rocks.

Amazing and inspiring yet again - thanks Lowell.
