Yo PowderT, mind if I send this shot to WDFW? Send me a PM with your name and I can give you credit. They're after any and all pictures we took and yours is a good one.
Hey, I was there too ya know ;)  Granted, my slow arse missed actual sighting and I only saw tracks.

Great ski tour, funky snow conditions from the ridge to bench.  Sorta opposite of "regular conditions".  Flatten the ski to slow down, carve/skid a turn to speed up, odd....

At under 5 hours car to car, that was haulin'!

Awesome sighting!  Wolverines are so cool.  I'm glad you let the wildlife guys know, they'll be interested.  (I used to do wildlife surveys for the FS.)  I've only seen one in my life and it was on a ski trip too.

Cheers, David.
Good to hear from you, Travis.  I'll send you a PM.

Randy reported the wolverine sighting to WDFW.  We are in touch with the wolverine expert.

Very true! Carrying beer is good for weight training. Make strong legs and back.
What a fun loop. If the Mill Creek trail actually existed, I'd recommend it to friends who don't mind carrying skis long distances. But, the Mill Creek trail isn't really there. Set expectations to "Alaskan Bush", and you'll have fun. Trail would be invisible with more than 1 inch of snowcover. In many sections, a divining rod would be handy, except that it would get hung up in the brush. The trail and mine areas are Federally closed for the min...
oops. i swear beer and/or herbs had nothing to do with me putting all of that in quotes!

You don't have to worry about hitting a tree or something like you would if you were drunk.

I have seen some immoderate herbivores skiing/riding who were crashing into stuff, eating it in deep pow, and getting lost in trees... but you're point is still a good one ;)

however, liquid refreshments (unlike herbs) do have a calorie content! and it...
It wasn't exactly a straight line ...
Good Memories thou =)

sweet! i think i know that bowl... i call it Corona bowl after a 24oz can of Corona burst in my backpack on the way up...
thanks for the road report.

LMAO thats why I always bring dank herb skiing!!!!

1. Its light 2. It won't soak your pack if it spills. 3. You don't have to worry about hitting a tree or something like y...

Glad you guys made it up there and took advantage of the opportunity, I was stuck admiring the view from Olympia that day.  Was the snow pack on the winter route up (S facing) still decent enough to ski at this point, or did you only ski the N facing area?

Plenty of snow still up high! Its all skiable right down into the woods.
Susan,  Great photos of the trip.
Was wondering where you all ended up; how did you get back to the car - hitch?

We stayed in the Yakima/Naches area and just got a bunch of sweet lines in.
Wolverine.  Awesome.  I've seen tracks up there, and other places.  Never seen one before.
Reynolds is a wrap...
the bulger bagging pattern just occurred - looks like it took you to the right place!
I'd add that scrambling the wet, sometimes-slimy-with-wet-lichen and sometimes-snowy class 3 summit in ski boots made things interesting/exciting at times.  But much better than May 8, 2010.  :)

The ski down was fun, but the views and sun on the summit were sublime.

For what it's worth, I found the blowdowns and overgrowth of the trail much less frustrating on the way down, perhaps because gravity was on my side and less weight on my back (I wore my boot...

i hadn't been over to the south side of Rainier since November...was up on the snowfield yesterday too.  I was surprised by the quantity of crevasses right up the gut of the Nisqually (I've exited the FF in years past right down the middle of the glacier too)...I thought that given the relatively cool spring we've had that things would be better covered up.

And...
Hey Steve, this is Travis... i met you at your camp, the parking lot, and on the summit of fortune. I got to the top just as you guys were headed down and you let me look through your binos to try and find the wolverine. I wanted to let you know I DID SEE IT!!! it was running acrossed a steep snow field headed towards south ingalls peak. What a cool day, see you around
wow. i've navigated through that part of the glacier to avoid the point releases, too, but it wasn't anywhere near that tricky! maybe after two big snow years the glacier is moving more quickly?? weird, indeed. glad you guys made it out alive.

Thanks to Gary from Port Angeles for the help finding the way.

Enjoyed  meeting and skiing with you guys yesterday, the north side conditions were, as you said, very enjoyable. The snow quality on the south side was actually better than expected. It was a bit challenging to find a continuous line almost back to the cars. Not bad though for the mi...
Fun sounding tour.  I'll have to put that one in my playbook.
Post the link (or links) here without the IMG tags (or PM me with it, if you prefer) and I'll take a look at it.
The link I am trying to use is from an online gallery in Dropbox... I retried them all and still not working.
nice pictures!

Yikes -- high-stress terrain indeed -- great TR and nice work navigating safely.

Thats great. Its incredible people would be so bewildered to see your equipment! What? They never saw someone ski outside of a ski resort?

Approached via Ingalls Pass and upper Headlight Basin.  A few inches of new schmoo >6000' or so.  Funky turns up high, but fun enough and a few days of sun will cure the funkiness.  No sluffing.  Great corn below the schmoo.  Coverage still good.  We skied down to the trail <1 mile from the TH.

Randy, Anita and I saw a wolverine on the N flank of Fortune E ridge on our...
Wow thats a big hike! Good for you and congrats!
nice, Mt Angeles.  nice pic, & I guess your an 'Angeleno' skier. As thats what people who live in Los Angeles are called.  I grew up there - & there is some good skiin' in the 'Angeleno' mtns.
Nice first post, welcome to TAY!

That error seems to be a problem with a malformed or incorrect link in the "IMG" brackets, though I'm not sure exactly why it happens -- smarter folks than I on here may know.

Try pulling out one image at a time, to see if a particular one is causing the problem.  Sorry for the hassle!
Very nice forest--I agree that there is lots of good skiing out there still.  We'll have to join forces again.

Our 90% chance of showers on Mt. St. Helens (see my TR), turned into solid snow with decent, smooth powder.

Also nice to here you made it back from Logan...
Good TR, and welcome to TAY, Mr flyer.
Good job. Someone has to keep all those hikers wondering on trails that don't typically see skis.

Hoping to press my kids bike trailer into service if I get to this trip this year to make those extra miles less brutal :)

There was another group that we caught up with on our way out. They started a day later and made it a little bit past the shelter. Anyway we met them around mile 4, they were fixing one of their bikes. They passed us a little while...
I noticed your posting in the Random Tracks section "Climbing Coleman Deming Un-roped" where you were asking people's opinions about doing this route unroped.  There were a number of answers in the discussion from being roped to not being roped.  Thankfully you now know the answer - if you are walking on a glacier PUT A ROPE ON!  If it was so simple as to walk safely without one and use it only when you see dangers then there wouldn't be a need for roping up.&n...
Was just wondering the other day about that road. Thanks for the update.
good to hear! that was the train of thought, planning on going a thousand feet higher tomorrow in the same vicinity, was it fun snow to ski?
Thanks for the conditions update Forest.  Glad to see your back safe and sound from the Logan trip!

Cheers,
Travis England
Well blow me down!

Nice................  Popeye would be proud of you.   ;)

You might want to consider growing your hair out, getting some flashy duds and taking your show on the road....... It seems to have worked for this guy............

Gary
No, it was well glued where we skied: International and Debbie's. . If the NWAC alert makes you ask, I'd guess we were at low enough altitude that there was too little new snow.  Also the weather was cloudy and cool.
was the new snow moving around much?
Hey man , welcome !! You might wanna
think about moving your post to "partners wanted".
It's currently in "trip reports". Maybe that was
your strategy;if so , well played! Good luck!
Fun morning skiing with you Silas, thanks for going.

Nice meeting other TAY'rs on the hill today too.
Nice! Looks very fun. Glad to see that new KWilds are in the wild!

thanks, had no delusions about it being just on the other side of Snoqualmie  :) - I meant close to Kam's home; Silas filled me in, that'd be Reno
