As always, I don't hold grudges, Jeff, and I'm willing to let it go with an apology, hoping that we'll remain on good terms and will even perhaps ski together again in the future.
I would enjoy that too! It definitely wasn’t my intent to be disrespectful to you or inappropriately derail your TR, and I am sorry it came across that way. I do have a...

Nice TR. On this:

Upon closer inspection, I realized I was about to lose the boot grommet that clips into the Dynafit binding.

If you want to climb mountains without snowmobile noise pollution, maybe choose a different mountain. Washington state is loaded with them, and the snowmobilers deserve a place to play too.

I'm really curious how you're supposed to share with Mr. Davenport what a little bit of lurking on any trip report site will tell you-- that several women have skied Rainier in a day.

Only exposed area was the roll
Yikes!
Awesome. Heading down there in a couple weeks hoping to ski H-W. The road still not being open gives me perhaps false hope that there's plenty of smooth corn to be had by then. Maybe snow this week will recharge things.

Randy -- I like the video. What kind of camera were you using?
Contour HD Mine is a couple years old, the newer Contour Roam has a number of improvements.
I also hear good reports about the Go-Pro HD Hero -- but I haven't used that myself.
And yes -- Tia was a much happier dog than on the Silver...
Looks like snow conditions are now in good doggy-travel conditions. Tia is no longer post-holing up to her chest.

On Saturday you could drive apx 7 miles from SR542 (hit my odometer as I turned on Glacier Creek Rd).

So how close to the trailhead could you drive? Was the snow continuous from that point on up?
We drove to about 2 Miles to the TH and the snow was continuous. We had to walk 200 yards or so, only because there were other cars parked closer. For the ski out, it was continuous from Summit till the cars. There were a f...
I think Lowell is on the right "cat track" except the biggest problem on Sessel is it being a race zone, so I think your pollen is actually old wax along with grime, fuzz, hair, beer, etc (kind of like skiing the trees in the bc where later in the season the debris gets thicker and thicker as the snow melts out until you are skiing a carpet of leaves, moss, and bark)... I can ski off the Alpental area one day with totally clean bases then hit a lap down Alpental the next day and have t...

I guess my main reason for this post today is the snow mobilers up at 9,600ft on the Easton Glacier route. Not sure if anybody else on this board gets pissed off when you work hard and use leg power to get you up high to enjoy the surroundings of these awesome mountains in the cascades, only to have to listen to the high pitched whine of lazy DB snow mobilers zipping their way up the glacier...
Thanks Ron , we were all admiring your gumption to head right back up towards the west ridge after that first run - nice to see the view to the south!

Welcome to Mt Rainier, Brian.
Thanks!
Mt Rainier and I are pretty close friends. I've been on her 7 times with a goal in mind and only finished it 3x. Sometimes, you never know what those women will throw at you.
David, Good to meet you and your group as well as the six from Corvallis. I like image 1 of the north ridge up with climbers, and Hayrick and Hoodoo buttes, as well as 3 fingered Jack and Jefferson to the north. Adding a shot across the southwest bowl to Belknap and sisters. Awesome day.
"I got to pain point, started the skin up"
I think I've been there a few times.

Thanks for the trip report. I hope to get up there in the next couple of weekends.

Welcome to Mt Rainier, Brian.
Fun trip and glad to meet everyone. Thanks Radka and Chris for figuring out how to get over the creek. And Jonas, I was wondering where those gloves were!
Stoudema, I am looking forward to getting back there next year for those north side bowls. Perhaps early enough to avoid the boot pack bushwhack through lava and chinquapin. I skied Brown Mt on the south side of Lake of the Woods hwy the following morning on thin cover, with plenty of lava to make it interesting, but the views to McLoughlin were spectacular in brilliant sunshine.
Good trip Koda. After putting in 12 hours on skis, and another 3 driving, this old man was tired yesterday. Just a couple adds: I took a short tour across the west ridge to see the views to the south, and skied a short line on the SW aspect, and it was very similar to the NW aspect we skied with the other 2 groups. The view south to belknap and three sisters was worth it, as well as the extra turns, but I paid the price by doubling my nasty traverse of that NW bowl. ...
Great time linking up with you folks, thanks for sharing the killer photos!
Found some liner gloves and a ski strap on the road - Toby or Khan?

Hey everyone,
Join us at Sturtevants this Tuesday night to help celebrate Jess and Chris' awesome feat. Also, super proud that our 18 y.o. athlete, Andrew Eckels, was the last initials added to the back of the Spyder rig, right before they departed from the old Glacier "Chando" rv lot. The Mt. Baker Trip was perfect with sun, low wind, and and most of all seeing Chris, Jess, Ted, Christy & Ian all with HUGE smiles on all of their faces yesterday as they ripped high...

Nice DG! Thanks for the conditions update and the previous invite. Wish I could have made it, but had family obligations over the weekend. Looks like the snow will be good for awhile yet.....
Sweet, looks like a fun time! A few friends and I made several laps on Hoodoo after work Friday night before cooking some burgers in the parking lot. Still lots of snow up there. Too bad the weather is going south next week. Thanks for the report....
Sounds like you guys hit it just right, Wayne, good to climb with you up there for a bit.
We were lazy and got there late (11am). Sounds like it was a good idea. Great corn on all aspects, not too many people, and the clouds broke up around 4pm.
Had to park at the Overlook because no space left at Blue Lake TH.

Hello all.
I have been around TAY for years and as you can tell I do not post much. As a member of the TAY Professional Lurkers Club (TAYPLC), I am very concerned about the personal shots that seem to be more and more prevalent on TAY these last few months. The thing that has always separated this community from other boards is the focus on skiing and limited snarkiness that can sneak up on...
Probably your group I met at near-top flat spot where you depot'd the skis - if so hi!
Main gully skied real nice. Some of the better corn I've hit in Teanaway in 10 or so trips. This even though later in day (3:15). New snow on top had corned, and wind or sun affects had textured it to resemble the 'orange peel' texture used in drywalling (but fortunately it skied better than what I imagine skiing drywall gypsum would ski like!)

On the ridge, RonG and Wayne caught up to us (good to meet you guys, and thanks for the boot track Ron!), and they continued with boot crampons up the final steepest pitches to the upper saddle. They were camping overnight so may have some more good skiing to report. Unfortunately, the forecast for sunny skies and warming didn't really pan out, as overcast skies in the afternoon...
that's sweet. I've stared at McLouglin several times on long road trips, it's very enticing. Let's go get that north side sometime!

Hey Jeff,
You have 748 posts on this website alone and your username is your first and last name. Who is the self-promoter?

We were the two tracks before you.
I was sitting at moon rocks right when the ice calved off and just happened to be looking - loud and amazing.
We headed down just after 1:00 and then up and over Golden Gate - even better snow there!!!
We saw more foxes than people on the Paradise glacier; saw no one on the glacier (not sure how we missed you) and saw 4 foxes (one on the way to Mazama Ridge and 3 on the drive back down)
What a great tour.

Yo Jeff,
I'm sure that if you went to the Adirondacks any number of skiers would make you look like a fool... on their home turf.
Self-promo seems full of problems, let the self-promoters dig their own holes... as they usually do.
Be patient!

Joedabaker and I did Cayuse to Crystal. Chute to Deadwood Lakes( that sucker is steep) was perfect corn.
Long climb to col at Crystal peak and then dropped old slide path on smooth corn to Crystal Lakes.Big cornices ..be careful.
Last climb to 3way col and found our only slush of the day at top of 3way exit chute but a quick traverse right onto 3way apron yielded perfect hero corn down to flats. Left at 11 am, got to Crystal Patio by 4:30Pm.
Conditions and corn was superb.<...

Man, I feel like I missed out on skiing this week Amar! Looks like fun out there.
BTW, I for one think Chris, et al pulled off a pretty awesome trip. What they did isn't easy no matter who you are. Unlike as you suggested in your earlier post Jeff, I'm sure you would agree that you don't need to be a rando racer to be a good ski mountaineer.
