nice work! almost did the same trip! thanks for the TR.
Wow...steep...don't show those pictures to your Mother please. That's getting after it right there!
I might not need that second cup of coffee.  But I might need a diaper change!  That looks poop-your-pants steep from the photos alone.
!!!
Looks invigorating!  I don't think I'll need my second cup of coffee today after seeing those pics.
Great effort, and nice pics!

nice work guys, i was the exhausted solo guy you passed on the way in.

Funny thing is that Mike and I bantered for about an hour after we passed you thinking you had said "We" and seeing no partner, we couldn't figure out where the "we" was.  Good to know you were in fact solo.

The boots are the TLT 700 - I've had...

Jeff I'll throw it out there right now- I'd be happy to go skiing with you any time.  I love the sport and it's my life and my families.

Class... I mean, WORLD Class.
On a completely,it would seem unrelated topic to this post, thanks for the link about Tony, (the helicopter). I have worked with Tony for years, and did not know about these exploits.  He is such a modest man of course, he would never toot his own horn.  Over the years I have worked/ridden with hundreds of pilots, and he stands head and shoulders above the rest.  His longline work is particularly impressive, things that even a very skilled pilot would find difficult, Tony makes look routine, all...
Hey Chris,

I posted some comments that were in bad taste when you were on your "Ski the 14ers" project.  They were based on misguided egotism and jealousy; I'm sorry.  It seems like you have great taste when it comes to doing nothing but a bunch of awesome skiing all over the world (while somehow making ends meet).  I hope to run into you again out there some day.

Cheers,
Sky

Way to get another run to the bridge...
Just do everyone a favor and lock this thread. The TR isn't relevant to current conditions anyway and it's just going to turn into a Dav love/hate festival. There's a thread in Random Tracks if you want to be a fan boy or a hater. Take the same approach you did for the Baker snomo issue (recommending a thread in Random Tracks rather than derailing yet another Baker thread was an excellent idea).
Mr. Davenport,
First and formost, welcome to this great site! I must apologize for the behavior of this Jeff H. guy. Every crop seems to have a few bad apples...
It has been a great pleasure to watch your mountain exploits, from the early days of stomping huge drops, flashing AK lines, and now your ski mountainerring. (Your Denali trip, gave inspiration to a few good mutual  friends of ours Miss. Walker and J. Florence, who are flying in, as we speak).
So keep up the great work an...
Chris, I'm sorry that my trip report thread was used as a venue for criticism and comments which were hurtful. I appreciate you coming online here to openly address that criticism, but I wish that had not been necessary. It looks like Jeff has now deleted 4 of his posts in the thread above, which contained most of the negative comments.

I still think your trip was impressive, as do most of the people I've spoken with about it, and I was really glad to have crossed paths and...
Hello Everyone,.
This is the first time I have posted on any forum in many years.  The comments of Jeff Huber, the man who publicly called me a "Gaper" at the beginning of my volcano road trip, have left a very bad taste in my mouth and are a sad example of a side of the ski community that unfortunately seems to exist online.  Jeff I'll throw it out there right now- I'd be happy to go skiing with you any time.  I love the sport and it's my life and my...
Nice! Like the bent pole too.
Nice one, quite the slog in but well worth the effort.
Remote feel so close to home.

On the 20th, the road was snow covered just past the treatment plant.
Congratulations on an epic effort--from marching the extra 14 miles with full load to beating the whiteout at the summit. N
Did you see any climbers up on Liberty Bell and the Early Winter Spires? I wonder if the rock is still pretty wet/snowy up there...

I've seen the well-covered at Windy Pass while cars are parking a few hundred yards to the south. So I think it's a bit hard to tell unless you go over and take a peek, but then there are also a few places where the snow tends to pile up en route as well (e.g. that one switchback that is always eroded and rocky).
Road looked well covered at Windy Pass area.  But I met a XC skier who had come from Hyak.  He said he first attempted clockwise circuit but there were large bare patches, so he headed for Grand Junction instead.  So a liittle bit of a wait yet I suppose.
Nice report. Any status of the road coming up to Windy pass from the Hyak side?
Most detailed mystery trip report ever!
'twas looking good from across the way...

was wondering where that sno mo whining was coming from... now I know

I imagine the snow won't be holding for the summer solstice again this year :(

Aptly named line, Ziegenbock. N

purely geographical, my dear Watson...
Nice!

Curious what is going on with your boots? I have the same tlt 700's given to me by Marcus. The toe grommets(?) Look a little skewed.

Any after pics?
What did Skyline Ridge look like? I am looking for a quick day outing this weekend and may be heading up that way. I haven't been up there in years.
I made it up that direction as well that day.
Thanks for posting. I have been wondering about that area and now need to add it to the list.
If we can avoid having another Baker TR turn into a snowmobile discussion that'd be great -- maybe someone can start a thread in Random Tracks (or revive one of the ones from years past).
TR Relevant info:
My crew parked at 2900 feet.  Around 4 feet of snow (up to the top of the black&yellow caution signs) was covering the bridge about 1/8 mile from the trailhead, so I bet that will still be a few weeks with the winds that tend to insulate those drainages.

With the low-ish freezing level ~8-9k, we took our time and dropped off the summit around 3:45pm.  The first few hundred feet never corned, but the rest of the descent was absolute perfection to un...
Fun and creative way to finish up  your 6 year academic quest. Congrats -
Glad you guys had a good day too!
Looked a little thin at pine creek when we dropped the car off...
Nice work skiing to the car.

Not if continual violations of federal law occur...

I know this discussion belongs in the random tracks area to which Amar has directed us above, but I can't resist.  Does that mean that we should shut down all interstate highways since everyone constantly drives above the speed limits?  Enforcement of the law is what you are looking for.
Aptly named line, Ziegenbock. N
From the summit (prob missed you by an hour, we came up the other side), we watched you guys make turns from the S (SE?) shoulder down towards Wing Lake--wondered if portages required on the S side.  Your rolling turns looked like fun.  We were about to have some kinda fun too on Black--will post pics this eve.
Hi Mike-  Nice report, nice ski.... in WA on an abbreviated ski vacation....  there's still at least one un-skied peak here.  Sally and I were on Grays last Sunday and got the shock of our lives...  litterally.  Lots to learn about Colorado mountains compared to the Cascades.
Well I hope not! Thought about that a while ago, looked up the symptoms in adults, and they didn't seem to be a good match to mine. The cough has been more persistent than it has been severe, and it never got really awful at any point, although it was fairly bad for a couple of separate 2-day periods. I've had none of the other common pertussis symptoms.

author=Jeff Huber link=topic=24861.msg105034#msg105034 date=1337662919]Which boots were they?

Looks like an old Dynafit TLT 700?
Ugh, maybe you have the dreaded Whooping Cough! Adults may get something that just seems like a nasty cold with a cough that won't go away for a long time.
Such a great and under-appreciated tour!
Amidst all the hate, I was surprised no one mentioned the gratuitous slideshow promos in there! LOL

And now, back to your regularly scheduled trip reports....
Thanks guys -- Amar, sorry your thread got derailed here.

I would enjoy that too! It definitely wasn’t my intent to be disrespectful to you or inappropriately derail your TR, and I am sorry it came across that way. I do have a lot of respect for you and didn’t mean to cause any offense. Your TR was really neat with the helicopter photos and getting to descend to the bridge.

I’ll not comment further on Davenport in this thread and if y...
Nicely done grievance/criticism and reception/acceptance.  Thanks.
