We headed up early and got some liquid sunshine during the skin. Cleared up after a bit though and we had some nice snow a little before noon.
This was my first time up there this year, how long has the run down toward the lake been melted out? I was hoping (irrationally maybe...) that it would still be in.

thats a sick line! how long do you think it will be in?
Not long. it was pretty touchy when we were there. the top looks deceptively good, but at the bottom it was decently hairball. Be careful if you go, and bring a rope for getting out below, the glacier was pretty sketchy below the line.

Glad I could teach something! If you can't find skin wax in Munich, let me know and I will mail you some! I wish we'd had more time to discuss the techniques you have been learning based on the research your club does. Is there a website to find that information? I probably will not use pickets for ski mountaineering in the future - I will go euro-style with the ax for a q...
sounds like a great trip!
Bushwacking free climbing. Snow looked good high.
Adventure skiing with some added adventure. Very nice!

We should have gotten our fat asses out of bed earlier. Had a couple close lightning strikes. Flashboom
Scary stuff, I've had "sparkle-hair" once before and I wouldn't like to repeat it.
Where were you when it hit?
Yeah! fun trip! Good skiing with you guys. Typing is hard with all these thorns in my fingertips :)
Fun TR to read. Thanks for posting!
Way to hit it.

On June 20, we watch a spltter descending the same chute. You called the weather window. ;)
Lowell, thanks for a great trip report, a reminder that wonderful trips are all around us, and this is a perfect example.
A great trip with some great terrain. ;)
"Worm flows" :) and yes, we locals call firn snow, "corn" snow... like skiing on frozen corn kernels...
nice work! wish i could have joined you.

Thanks for the pics bcjunkie!
great pic of the S. Sister ! & skinning w/ shorts on, excellent
in regards to the size of Shasta, pic - Mt Shasta is larger by volume than Mt Rainier
welcome to summer ! there should be skiing still available down here through next month. love those views !
SWEET day out with you Radka! Great company, 10p of Bubbly golden granite, Snow to the parking lot, and Awesome pictures too!-WOW!I could not ask for more!
Nice Ron, wish I could have joined you. The NW bowl is definitely worth a return trip!
Man that looks great. Might make a push that way wednesday. Thanks!
Parked at Morrison Creek, intermittent snow on the road for the first mile or so then continuous. I was able to ski to within a half mile of the car by heading directly back to MC, though there was a bit of dirt skiing involved. I would guess the road will take at least a couple more weeks to melt out, especially with this lovely weather.
How close did you drive to the Cold Springs TH? Morrison Creek?
Skiing to go climb that golden, WA pass granite! Nicely done! NEWS looks dry for the most part, judging by your photo.
Full day. Nice.
Sorry we missed you (and the grill) on Silver

Mucho epic! I should have stuck around silver.
author=snoholic link=topic=25184.msg106373#msg106373 date=1340342056] Great ski down in the dark with Silas hootin and hollering all the way to the car.
Bummed we had to skidaddle before the dogs were done. Susan wound up working way into the early morning.
"Hey Silas - you got a headlamp?
No... do I need one?"
Apparently not! :)!
After viewing the Garibaldi complex so many times on the way to Whistler, it was really cool to explore the mountain. Seems that this June has been especially wet and cold, and clearly there was new snow in the alpine. The schrund was open across the face, and it wasn't safe to make an end run. But great company and scenery and it's always fun to explore new places.
Hmm, I didn't take any pics of the snow coverage around Cascade Pass, or near the road, sorry.

How come I am always in the same place as Silas but I never see him?
Nice! Saw your tracks and wondered who did it. Fun video!
Festive evening for sure, we had a few people show up a couple miles away.

Funny. I only ever make it out a couple times a year (maybe) and I always seem to bump into him. I just assume that he is everywhere.

Good job on bagging St Helens!!! Stellar trip you have going, Michael! From kayaking with Orcas, to the San Juan's, to Rainier and Helens, you are truly getting some of the best of what we have to offer in the Great Northwest! Smooth sailing, to you and Christian, my friend! Will have to come ski some of your sick terrain in the Alps! Take care, and go git' it!!!
Wow! Love that third shot! That is about the best BBQ shot, with beverage, I have ever seen! Kudos to you!!! :D
Wolfs, I was thinking the same thing. Last year I remember more snow on the west side, but thinner snow on the main east facing bowl. This year just the opposite.
I was up there in the evening. Several other parties about. Nice consistency corn. Still nice day but interesting clouds building west and south as sun set.
What I haven't seen mentioned in any of the Silver reports thus far is that the slopes down to Annette are already BAKED. 90% talus. Definitely no continuous way to get from ridge to anything more than few hundred feet long. Kind of odd because last year they lasted long enough to be really fun at the time the road was open and for...

Happy belated Lee ! Just back from Garibaldi - nice tour, 3' pole penetration 300' below summit, baled.
