My absolute favorite trip up Baker was the one I did with my sons.  Kudos to Tom.  Sounds like he's got the family ski mountaineering bug.  What's next for him?

The club I'm in is the Alpenverein: http://www.alpenverein.de/
Nearly every climber from beginners to pros is in that club. Being in thet club is about 60€ / year, but cheaper accommodation in shelters, insurances in case of alpin related accidents and a monthly magazine are included. In turn we don't know things like climbing passes in Europe at all. Even the best known peaks l...

Has the Black Hole opened up enough to be obvious from above?  I was intending to get up there this weekend to check on the  bamboo but had house chores to do instead.  My plan is to head up there and remove the boo when it is no longer needed.

I recommend keeping the bamboo in place a bit longer. I don't think the hole is all that obvious from above yet.
I don't think there is anything better then skiing in the mountains with your children.  Congratulations!

Cliff Mass has an explanation for the haze we experienced on Mt Baker--smoke from fires in Asia!

Here's a picture that shows the smokey appearance better:

Looks like a great cross-generational spirit integrating trip! Tom looks psyched, the weather glorious, and the mountain perfect for it. Thanks for sharing.
We did not ski The Chasm yesterday.  In theory, if one could find a way in, it might earlier in the season, but it and the approach would be very prone to avys.  If you've been up to Robin Lakes or the ridge between Paddy-Go-Easy Pass and Robin (Sherpani, Granite), you've seen The Chasm.

Cool route. Chasm looks fascinating.

I second that! I love creative routes and it looks like a great ski. Thanks for sharing Steve and Randy.  That chasm looked barely skiable (was it?), but looks to be fantastic when filled...
Removed the duplicate post -- thanks for the TR Vince!
I went there on Thursday and Friday and had a great time
Long live 'mericuh!
Great pictures, thanks!
How is the trail? Where is the snow line?
Went down the 7th. I dropped in around 11:45 on lightweight gear: pleasant for the uphill, interesting for the down.  It was so mushy it had to be skied in a specific way, but I found if I was willing to pay attention to that exact style, the snow was actually pretty fun.  After the mandatory "inny" and "outy faceplant" tele falls I adjusted to the middle.  The stuff away from the boot tracks was predictable and only lightly suncupped.  This was my first t...
Those are some nice looking tracks in the second photo Zap. Steep stuff is overated and quality trumps quantity. Looks like you've still got it.
Nice, looks like great coverage.
Hey Zap & Jill,

Debbie, Brett & I must have just missed you!  We rolled in around 10am, shuffled up to just West of Antler and started yo-yo-ing the Sourdough Chutes, working west as we went, ending up at the low saddle.

Glad to see you're out working the snow.  I've been thinking about you just about every time I slap on my Vector BC's - which is a lot this season!  Hope your's are treating you as well as mine are, though it is a...
I hear you about the dogs.  Being newly back in the dog business, I'd forgotten about the extra responsibility a hound brings.  I've been lucky with mine so far but have seen 'em cut by ski edges and one take a bad fall while trying to scramble after her master.

Nice pics.  You might enjoy the Fryingpan/Whitman Glaciers if you don't mind a bit of walking.
Oops, that was definitely the wrong image link.

Maybe this one will make more sense. Sorry for the confusion...
Mack et. al- great seeing you at the top of Dege!
Chutes were in excellent shape; snow seemed smoother and less sun-cupped compared to recent years in early July!

It was a fun day for sure and nice to explore a new area. Thanks Ralph and Chuck for the smiles.

Hi Ron, it's been a long time! Funny I was talking about your famous mountain margaritas on the drive up. Good ole' times of the Slush Cup days.

I look forward to reading the trip reports as folks get out this weekend in the stellar weather we are finally having as I suspect there will be some folks going big. I have to work the next 5 nights in the ER (which I love)...
Nice route!

Sure was nice to break out above the cloud cover!
Fine day indeed 8)

a couple nice days i see !
Indeed.  Thanks for the information on how the conditions are there!
I accidentally posted twice but cant seem to figure out how to delete one. Oh well! Double your pleasure ;)
Wow! lot of snow up there still.
Good call.
Putting that area on my list right now!
Thanks for the intel.
Nice to see that your got up there, Zap.
Looked like a storybook beautiful day.
Really happy that you are recovering so nicely.
Keep it up, mate.  ;)
We didn't get a look at the south route up Middle Sister, but the remaining snow on the southern aspect of North Sister was looking anemic.  It probably gets less snow being directly behind M Sister, though, and I was pretty surprised at how good the coverage is on western and northern aspects, so it may still be worth a shot.

Thanks FrankFrank for your report from a couple weeks ago - that was great beta for us heading in that way.

Hey Scotsman,

I am headed up to interglacier Sunday.  Since it's going to be warmer, it looks (based on your experience at noon) like I should be shooting for descending at 10:00 or so.  That is pretty unlikely given our normal schedule, so how sloppy do you think it will be with warmer temps if we are descending around noon or 1:00?

Thanks for the intel!

Any thoughts to what kind of coverage the south route might have... not sure if you were able to take a look but thought i'd ask.

Here is a view from the (far) south, taken on July 4.

Good one boys...
Would like to have joined, but that work thing really gets in the way on some good fun.

It sure does....we missed you.
And yes, that is my thumb ...I am the worst ski photographer in the world.
Man... I can't believe how much snow is up there! Great payout for being so close to Seattle.

thought about camping/watching fireworks from the summit then skiing some of the numerous lines the next day--seemed like a good weather window for that--but... didn't get it together.  not entirely beerless tho

thanks for the vicarious stoke, nice pics!

AND how the heck does one pronounce "Dege"?   ???

According to PEAKWARE - World Mountain Encyclopedia, Dege is pronounced such that it rhymes with "reggae"; ('deg-ay).

Nice turns.

...I learned the hard way, yet again, that having beer waiting in the car is crucial for these kinds of trips. Please learn from my mistake and do not take any risk in this department...

Sage advice.
Great photos.
Thanks for the TR.
Great trip and ski friends.  ;)

Great sounding trip.  I've climbed the South Twin and have always wanted to ski the North Face of the North Twin.
If you go again, and you don't mind a tag along, send me a PM.

Don
Sounds Good! Always looking for more ski buddies!

Per Telemack's request, some photos from yesterday

Nice pix Keith ...........

Looks like it was a fun day.

It's good to see at least one of you had his heals planted firmly on the ground ...................  ;)

Gary
Keith, Mac, and company--nice to run into some fellow geezers yesterday. Mighty fine day! Each route (Sunrise Point start) has its benefits and challenges.
Per Telemack's request, some photos from yesterday
I'm going tomorrow :)

So you cannot skin past Panorama point up to Pebble creek? Did you hike in your ski boots?

Anything to look out for? I am assuming it doesn't make sense to be bringing Verts, what about ski crampons?

Cheers
Ivo
Hi Silas - it's Ron from the Randonee/Telemark class (new instructor).... My wife and I were up there yesterday as well, what a great day! We were a bit late in our start, as a result we were coming down as the sun was going down behind the mountain.  Things got icy pretty fast!  But some sections were incredible that were still getting some sunshine. I was looking at going up Pan Point as it looked like there may have been enough snow to skin up most of the way - decided against...
