Great TR. This finally solves the mystery of the folding bike. We climbed and skied the Emmons during the same timeframe and were pondering where the owner of the bike was.
You're welcome. I promise not to tell anyone about the beer payment for that posted remark. Cheers! ;)

The link you posted is to the book the movie is based on (my German's rusty, but "Gebundene Ausgabe" translates to "Hardcover Edition": http://www.dict.cc/?s=Gebundene+Ausgabe)
There is definitely an English version of the movie - I saw it last year at a special screening at the AMC in the Pacific Place shopping center in downtown Seattle. I don't recall if it was actually in English or there were just subtitles - but I remember it was incredible and wort...

What elevations did you cross the Roosevelt and Coleman glaciers?
the snowboard track is mine, that is the only one i claim.
we were the last ones down that day for sure. we traversed out at treeline, but probably should have followed the tlt5 tracks. one splitter, one skier. one more skier in shorts who turned around at lunch counter.
about a 2 mile carry (each way) if you follow the road 4080 approach. if you know where your going you could probably go right up morrison creek, mostly on snow.

Sweet. How far did you have to carry going in?
Cool operation!!! In case my personal limits are somewhat lower, but the blog entry explains what's mountaineering is about...

It's German, but the Austrian guy who did that is so cool.
The movie is rather a documentary that a movie and for sure no fake.
I didn't find it at amazon.com, so it may have...

No, Ron, I don't think that needs any clarification. I kinda like it the way it is! It was a fun group up there that day. I was surprised how many turned out mid week; given our weather recently, I guess I shouldn't have been. Thanks for the pics Chamois! Good thing it was the back of my head :)

West slope to the lake is done for the year. Once those rocks start getting exposed it goes quick.
It is always worth looking carefully over on that side if you like that pitch, and are willing to deal with some "narrow ribbon" skiing in a few spots as well as booting back rather than skinning. Whenever I've skied over on that side, I've always had exp...
Been dreaming about the Chutes all week. Glad you got it :)!

... That pair was a early-30ish couple.
Bonnie will be pleased to see that comment. :)
I guess if you averaged them they might be "30ish".
I suspect we'll need the snoseeker to unravel this difference of perceptions. ;)
Oh-oh, you could be in trouble. That pair was a early-30ish couple.
Unfortunately, no summit attained on this endeavor.
Summit team B was thawart-ed by overland travel and lack of enthusiasm.
Summit team A had a great shot but was deterred by summit team B. :)

Those "Hump Jumps" are from Team TLT5 (except for the Snowboard track).
Nice job! Are you guys the snowboarders that traversed out of the chutes early, with the dog?

I see your buddy has an axe, but did he rock tennis shoes up the north face? Or did he take the west ridge? Any of the truck drivers say anything to you?
Nice one! Nice video, also! You guys got the goods and had a nice route going. There are some really good steep lines off of that ridge! The cold spring we had last year really made access and options optimal. Last year, we skied all the way down Little Harrison side; which was quite the haul back...because of not being able to cross the Pack River (way to big, and no logs crossing to aid). Then, we ran into a Grizzly about 1/2 mile before the bridge. Luckily, he caught wind and heard us before...
Nice! Sounds like you guys got better snow than we did. Fun times.
Congratulations! Thanks for pushing the boundaries.
Nice work Silas, keeping slackers like me off the couch. Think we we will try Colchuck tomorrow, even thought the weather is sliding off of perfect.
Boy, that sure puts the bar way up there for #2. A great trip, great pictures, video, and trip report, thanks.
Looks like Bonnie and Kit in your pics...
A formidable, widely known mother/son team.

Nice tracks over the hump in the last picture :0
Thank god for this keyboard since my jaw still won't allow me to speak intelligibly. Wow. Congrats on a great first and safe trip!
Wow! Nice work guys! That video clearly illustrates the ubiquitous danger that lurks at every point of such a journey. Can't wait to hear Amar's physics explanation regarding the strength of that rock anchor...
Good to see lots of folks out scraping down the bumps! Thanks for the conditions update.

. Sorry we took first tracks from Crystal patrollers who skied and swiss bobbed off the true summit.
No you're not. ;)
Who would have guessed how versatile a snowboard can be. Thanks guys for engineering a bridge for Luna. Descent at 7pm was perfect-the mush had hardened and skiing was very enjoyable.

Here is a YouTube video of the Twin Peaks area I am talking about:

Very cool & @ 9:32 in your video from last year you guys are about to ski across our tracks (wild!?! not Silas... Just WILD) that lead us down the steeps to Little Harrison Lake for a little pond skim.
Might have to meet you guys out on the Upper Pack... Thanks for the info & Scotchman 1 & 2 are on the radar.
btw, it looks like Myself and a couple of S.Point locals were up at Bee Hive a couple of days before your Hans Solo 7/1/11 trip.

Well played!
Not to mention well documented.
Enjoyed the blog post from end to end, including the video.

Very nice. I like all these circumnavigation trip reports. I'd like to do this one too some day. Either that or Whatson's traverse. Thanks for inspiring.
Why that's Watson my dear elementary...
Great post thanks for sharing these incredible photos of a great trip. Can't wait for your second post.
Nice work guys, looks like a sick line.
Way to improvise with the rock anchors.

The volcanic dust on Copper Spur was terrible. Was the dust also in larger areas ? Did you climb to 8500vf.
Not sure how bad the dust is in other areas, the Spur was all we had time for that day. We topped out around 8500', the top of the main snowfield.
I've heard for a long time about parties wanting to ski Thermogenesis. Now that you've skied the adjacent line, I wonder if people will continue to target Thermo. It seems like you've skied the more attractive line, but the long-time goal of skiing Thermogenesis may not die so easily.
Congrats on a safe and successful trip.

Nice work you guys, not bad for some old PRO"S. You guys have always rocked it big. WOW!!!!!!!!
