Nice...we were up on silver on sunday and saw a couple slabs release from those normal spots on humpbacks east face.
Aha. Seat belts are awesome. Sounds good! :).

I always knew you where a law breaking rebel Jarvis. You and Maddog are the Bonnie and Clyde of Paradise. :D

Yep.  I can understand that.  What with the Japanese fella who gestured me into being in a picture with him: clearly had never seen 7 foot snowbanks before.  So also with all the Seattle newbies speeding up the road without narry a care in the...

Is it a crime to ski out of a public parking lot on public land down to a public bridge/parking lot? Is it a crime to do it again?
Honestly curious.

Good question, TS, and in all fairness to the Rangers, one that deserves a clear answer.
Our transgression had nothing to do with skiing to the bridge; the Rangers had no problem with that.  What they took umbrage...
Great day out guys! Sorry for adding to the deluge of skiers tracking up the Nisqually- we could not resist, seemed too good to be true. I hope the chutes are still in next weekend, I need to ski from up there, looked awesome jayme.

thanks to all for a good time. Scottie, make sure to give your son hell for forgetting the camera.

Ron- did you get any pics? Plz post some or send to me thru email. Real beaut of a day.

Chris

is this BC? or lazy car slogging? geez. all that payoff for so little work. should be a crime. actually, it is (according to said ranger). those of us poaching the main line Nisqually were commenting on all your tracks earned with nary a 500 foot vert climb. :)

Proly more like a 600 or 700 ft vertical, Jayme, but who's counting ;)
Way to nail the chutes; hop...
Thanks! yours as well!
Sorry about riding on your skin track up on the ridge we were looking at dropping into Pickhandle but saw you guys had already hit it so we dropped off the face towards quicksilver.
Your pics are awesome you have to send me a copy of me tracking that peak. I think I saw your split at the base

Yes, epic day.  Also learned, and perhaps I knew this, that thumbing it up to Paradise is illegal in the Park.  So be careful all!  We may need to coordinate with each other to for shuttling.

I think he learned it from his Da, unless he picked it up from me.

Sorry for the thread drift acarey but I couldn't leave this unanswered.
No Telemack he did not learn line snaking from me. YOU taught him well and are by far the worst( or best , depending on your positon) line snake but Stewie is fast approaching your prowess in this regard. :D
Here's a link to pictures from the trip.

Hey man I think we somewhat met when you dropped to the base of Dog Leg two skinners got onto your skin track from above and dropped into Dog Leg Bowl while you guys had summited the ridge that was My friend Scott and I the South was amazing we got 7 sick runs and didnt hit a sigle other track
Thanks for the great post, pics, and super fine company. Many thanks also to the Rangers and Brenda's plugs!
Eightmile peak makes me drool...did it look anything like this:

http://www.tonyanderin.com/images/cashmere_4_2006/target57.html

This was shot from high on Cashmere in the spring of 2006.  Sure looks nice, eh?  Eightmile is the peak in the foreground and a high point on Jack Ridge is in the background (I think).
Nice to meet you Jayme.

Josh and I also enjoyed a nice run down the chute.  We were the second party down the chute, a pair of two skiers went before us.  The very first turn in the chute proper was a bit icy.  Then nice powdery and buttery goodness until just below the final drop to the creek bed on the Nisqually glacier snout.  From there is was heavy, grabby, nastiness.  As opposed to previous trips Josh and I followed the two skiers tracks as they...

Nice to meet you folks.

Scotty, Stuart & Chris - a great day. Let's do it again soon.
I was verrrrrrrrrry nice snow and verrrry ncie to see you and Brenda again!
Nice vid and pics Savegondor. We didn't drop the chute but from the base of Pan Point where the summer trail cuts up throught the rocks. Those where our tracks ahead of you as we where the first down that morning. Nice job on getting the chute aswell. ;D It looked delicious.

Our group hithced back up and then went over to Mazama bowl for more powder.

In nearly 5 years of skiing at Paradise, that was one of the best days I have ever had as regards snow quality and stabi...

Nice to meet you Scotsman! I think you must have been the one in the yellow pants (old man with a white goatee), with a Scottish accent (at least that's what I told my wife, Regine, that is sounded like.  You talked to her about the turns on 9-1-1?   and admired my white goatee? abc (Andy Carey)

Taking advantage of the low elevation snowpack--very cool.
One more thing,  today may have been a stellar day to tackle Cannon Couloir.

Thanks for that John.  We really appreciate the writeup and thoughts.  We miss little Chief dearly.  Life is very precious and fragile.  Tragedies bring us back to the realities of life.  Live it and love it.

Thanks again

The Bearded One and I were the last off, and yes, should have left much earlier.  B took a tumble near the head of the shallow gully skiers right and initiated a 100'+ free ride.  Fortunately he was able to self extricate, though a pole was lost.  Good object lesson here on importance of an early start and allowing goals (to summit) to dominate the decision process.  Otherwise, a great day to be in the mountains.
Thanks for the TR Jeff.  We may be geezers, but won't soon forget yesterday's joy.  Any good pics?
Iluka,
Thanks for the skin tracks up to the Lake. We were the two - father/son pair - just behind your group. The skin up to the ridge from the south end of the lake was not too bad. Having skied down the ridge, I expect about the same. Nice snow all around. Thank you graciously for the track up.
We where out there aswell and it was great snow on the north slopes of Mazama bowl. I was with 3 others consisting my son Stewie , Rob and Chris.
Thanks for the info, tho I won't be trying it on purpose.  You probably crossed our track contouring beneath the treatment plant from a half-day car-shuttling the 'Old Trail' down to Canyon Rim.  If you ever need another 'quick fix' on a late-opening powder day, check out the line below the N overlook railing on Nisqually Vista Trail.  The usual boulder-shedding erosion scarp is drifted right to the top.  Sorry, no water-ice...
As near as I can tell from the map, we skied straight down the creek. We followed the drainage that comes closest to the road-bend just below the visitor's center. The route we skied did include one (and only one, in contrast with nearby stuff) small waterfall (We were in complete agreement that it was between 45 and 60 degree water ice, but weren't sure at any higher precision - 10-20' high, it seemed). Edging under the powder was fabulous - Will made the crux go with a combinati...
Way to save the day with a bold, impressive line!  Looks at least 45 degrees from the bridge?  Thought I remembered a small summer waterfall in there - did you enter right down the creek?
In the '70's when I was hiking in the area the maps labeled the peak Pheobe's Tit.  Must have been changed to a more politically correct name.  :)
Fun day with good folk on snow!

After looking again at the topo, looks like it was Dead Horse and not a nearby couloir. Careful if you're routefinding in there - slots adjacent to what we skied looked like nifty ice climbs.
Thanks for the report.

I love your login name. "Shredding the hills--before bedtime!"

(Maybe you have to have young children at home to get the joke.)   ;)

We left the snowmobile trailhead at about 10:30 Saturday night.  The snowmobile trail starts near the North end of Priest Lake in the Idaho Panhandle.  We rode about 25 miles to the Mollies warming hut with 2 memorable moose encounters.  The snow is so deep this y...
Thanks for information and directions--eventually I'll get to a few of these places..........sg
Any good BC in that part of the range that does not require a snowmo to get at?
that guy  Jack English...super guy and a good guy to have breaking trail for sure!   The range must be near Jack's place I'm guessing.  Sounds like it was a really cool trip.............

1.  Go straight up 97 to Tonasket, then E on SR 20.
2.  He was cool.
3.  Actually, we caught him on the up, but he showed us the phatness on the down.
4.  He lives S of Colville now and said it was about 45 min. to Sherman Pass.

Skierhuitarist, the range is the Kettle Range and it lies near the town of Republic in the NE part of the state.
Drive to Omak and then Republic.
It's about 6.5 hrs from Seattle and a long way from Bend, OR.
It is a very cool place and nice and remote.
Ok where is this range, ie how do you get there from Bend, Or?  I know that guy  Jack English...super guy and a good guy to have breaking trail for sure!  The range must be near Jack's place I'm guessing.  Sounds like it was a really cool trip.............

I'm not sure about from Foss(?)/Castle saddle, but it is accessible from the Pinnacle/Castle saddle (above the Pinnacle Glacier remnant and the slush-cup - not the usual Castle saddle destination). PeterC and I had a nice tour last year up to the col between Pinnacle and the Castle, then down the backside, up to the Pinnacle/Plummer saddle and then up to the Plummer summit. I hope this...

If anyone has some beta on that it would be much appreciated. We thought about descending the southern slopes on a westerly track and thought that at the 5900' point that it could be passabl...
