“Now climbing the highest mountains, now descending into the lowest vales.  From the summits we see the heavens and the horizon, from the vales we look up to the heights again.”
Thoreau

Way to get after it guys.  That is an impressive looking peak with a dramatic rise above the valley.  The next time that am in Darrington I will likely think of your efforts, faithful and true.

But really, can the Whitehorse be tamed or has it effectively tamed your ambition to m...

love the 2nd pic. The slopes up there were so awesome for us, almost surreal. I like tagging these big, little summits. They are fun challenges. Yeah, those cliffs are interesting. Not a prob really right now, cept for the ice. If it were powder or anything other than rock hard concrete at the bottom, they wouldn't be bad at all. It's just a crap-fest place to be if something decides to come down. Lots of cliffs looming over you.
Great shots Jason, esp. Cliffs-Shrunds-etc.

I did that route in the spring some years ago and found challenging bushwhacking on the climber's L route on the way up - it was almost fun if I thought of it as dancing with alder. This video of my partner Eric sums it up. We found fun skiing, and came down the other side, but didn't have a rope, so carefully downclimbed some tricky brushy cliffs. I...
Yep that was me, there was an interesting mix of conditions in that chute but overall it was certainly a fun way down.
Nice TR!  Just wanted to add a 'heads-up'.  Despite the great coverage at the terminus & below, on Saturday I had a softball-sized boulder wizz by about twenty feet away, followed by several more that were not so close.  This will increase through the spring & seems worse from the west moraine.
saw you two pop onto the glacier that day! alpymarr and i skinned up to the base of the wilson/nisqually cleaver and skiied back down to where you entered the nisqually. the views were magnificent. i've got some killer pics, but i have to doctor them before posting. lovely picnic among the seracs...
I spent the last three days looking at Ymir Peak from the other side. We were at the Coldsmoke Powderfest at Whitewater.
Telemack, sorry I missed this one.  Sounds like a great area.  Maybe next year.  looking forward to the pics.
Good outing on the Nisqually, and it sounds like you had 2 good days too, Scotty.

Hi Dave, I think we (party of 4) met you at Bryant Peak col on the way to Kaleetan. We followed you out there and then looped back around to Alpental. Great day! Posted a few of my pics here.

Fresh, It was nice to meet you guys.  Glad you got up there too.

Nice to see a report from you and Regine ,especially such a good one!

word. And yes, Mr. Soprano stuck the landing. Was there a doubt?

Nice work Dave- I spoke to you guys on the top of Granite and had you poiint out the route.

Do you think its significantly longer (more vert) than doing Kaleetan via Alpental and back?

Seems like a good trip for such an excellent day.
holy moly.  great work fellas, such a scenic area, can't believe i opted (?) to work instead.
spectacular pics and prose, J.
love seeing this place with tracks all over it, thanks
Wow all, I'm glad you liked. It was fun writing, picturing, and skiing. The light up there was just plain out of this world. I've been thinking back on it all day and I can't wait to leave work to edit more pictures and see what else I have.
The real question is did the Peacock stick the landing?  ;D
EPIC!!!! PAC NW PEOPLE RULE!!!!
Nice vid -- you're getting better at those every time.
Monika,  good to see you back on the snow at your full-butt speed (well almost, I guess).

I was tired after two runs on Granite yesterday...
WOW!  Jason, you take phenomenal photos and your writing lures me beyond my fascination for the next photo.
Thanks for sharing.
Great trip and incredible pictures, Jason!
"In a world of angles," our direction cosines worked well.

Awesome that you were dripping sweet, too.

I ARE SO STOKED.

I don't think Whitehorse can be tamed.  We just managed to not get bucked.
Very spectacular helmet cam footage. You would be " forever young" if you fell down that .
Huzzah! Sky was right about your photos. (Go click on Jason's link, if you haven't already.)
Great work!  I drove by there on Sunday, and was eyeing just about the exact line you took, wondering if it might go, especially with the lowland coverage.  Wondered especially about getting around the lower cliff band on the right.  Figured it would be an adventure.  Great to wake up Monday and read about someone getting it done!  Excellent pics!
Congratulations. Mind blowing adventure and and inspiration to the rest of us.
Nice work.
I think I met you at the parking lot. Are you the gentleman with whom I had a discussion about your World Stinkz ski's? If so nice to meet you.

We went to Mazama Bowl that day and then on Sunday we went back hoping to drop the Chutes to the bridge but the weather was cloudy so we opted for the Tatoosh. When we got to the Castle Col the sun had come out and the chutes where basking in corn producing sunshine.
Oh well, we still had fun.
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have Whitehorse on my list. This seems to be the right snow year for it. Any reason for not doing Whitehorse this trip...otherwise Shuksan/White Salmon looked beautiful?
i was up there right behind you guys.  i saw your tracks on the way out.  i spun a couple pow laps on the ne faces and then skied the SE shot from the top (the face you see in your third pic).    thanks for the bootpack.  that was way to slick to skin at the top.
I'd guess B.C., between Hope & Kamloops...
Very NICE!!!  So where is this area?  WA, Candada?
Monkia kicked my butt yesterday.
VERY NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Joe,

I'm Steve's friend.  We have skied and mt. biked a few times.

Thanks for the distance info.  We used just a map and didn't have to pull out the compass.  The forest was only thick in a few spots.  The fall line off Kaleetan down to 3200ft was outstanding and the highlight of the trip.

Not bad for a guy with no skins  ;) your legs must have been feeling mush like the snow below Granite after all that work.

Dave does not tire--even after 15 hours of skinning and skiing. He is a freak of nature. And his not having skins is good news for me when I am back on snow, as he won't be laying down such a steep up-track--I can never stay...
Hey Dave,

I don't know if it was you or not but I met a handfull of people at the notch there above the Bryant Col. If so nice to meet you but either way that is a cool trip.
Nicely done! Sunshine looks sweet...

We brought the drab weather with us to Boise for the weekend...

Wow, that is great creative route selection.  Neat point to point, following the sun across the snow as the day progresses, great way to get up a couple of summits, and VERY strong!
Very nicely done.

adding  my own armchair switchbacks and such.

Great line, Joe!  You put in one heck of a virtual skin track, I'm sure!  Already done some "armchai...
Nice effort Dave and Monika-
Great pictures too! Since you did such a nice job describing the route I used my topo electronic mapping and came up with almost the same elevation profile +/-. The distance came out to about 10.5 miles, adding  my own armchair switchbacks and such. There probably was more mileage with switchbacks, back tracks and all. Great effort and route finding, GPS or all map and compass? There seemed to be some pretty thick forested areas from your look back picture....
Thanks SG!

Sure, I'd love a split in my quiver, but just spent a wad on the Nidecker Ultralight, so can't yet justify it.  I'm sure it will come though.
