Nice work Dave- I spoke to you guys on the top of Granite and had you poiint out the route.

Do you think its significantly longer (more vert) than doing Kaleetan via Alpental and back?

Seems like a good trip for such an excellent day.
holy moly.  great work fellas, such a scenic area, can't believe i opted (?) to work instead.
spectacular pics and prose, J.
love seeing this place with tracks all over it, thanks
Wow all, I'm glad you liked. It was fun writing, picturing, and skiing. The light up there was just plain out of this world. I've been thinking back on it all day and I can't wait to leave work to edit more pictures and see what else I have.
The real question is did the Peacock stick the landing?  ;D
EPIC!!!! PAC NW PEOPLE RULE!!!!
Nice vid -- you're getting better at those every time.
Monika,  good to see you back on the snow at your full-butt speed (well almost, I guess).

I was tired after two runs on Granite yesterday...
WOW!  Jason, you take phenomenal photos and your writing lures me beyond my fascination for the next photo.
Thanks for sharing.
Great trip and incredible pictures, Jason!
"In a world of angles," our direction cosines worked well.

Awesome that you were dripping sweet, too.

I ARE SO STOKED.

I don't think Whitehorse can be tamed.  We just managed to not get bucked.
Very spectacular helmet cam footage. You would be " forever young" if you fell down that .
Huzzah! Sky was right about your photos. (Go click on Jason's link, if you haven't already.)
Great work!  I drove by there on Sunday, and was eyeing just about the exact line you took, wondering if it might go, especially with the lowland coverage.  Wondered especially about getting around the lower cliff band on the right.  Figured it would be an adventure.  Great to wake up Monday and read about someone getting it done!  Excellent pics!
Congratulations. Mind blowing adventure and and inspiration to the rest of us.
Nice work.
I think I met you at the parking lot. Are you the gentleman with whom I had a discussion about your World Stinkz ski's? If so nice to meet you.

We went to Mazama Bowl that day and then on Sunday we went back hoping to drop the Chutes to the bridge but the weather was cloudy so we opted for the Tatoosh. When we got to the Castle Col the sun had come out and the chutes where basking in corn producing sunshine.
Oh well, we still had fun.
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have Whitehorse on my list. This seems to be the right snow year for it. Any reason for not doing Whitehorse this trip...otherwise Shuksan/White Salmon looked beautiful?
i was up there right behind you guys.  i saw your tracks on the way out.  i spun a couple pow laps on the ne faces and then skied the SE shot from the top (the face you see in your third pic).    thanks for the bootpack.  that was way to slick to skin at the top.
I'd guess B.C., between Hope & Kamloops...
Very NICE!!!  So where is this area?  WA, Candada?
Monkia kicked my butt yesterday.
VERY NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Joe,

I'm Steve's friend.  We have skied and mt. biked a few times.

Thanks for the distance info.  We used just a map and didn't have to pull out the compass.  The forest was only thick in a few spots.  The fall line off Kaleetan down to 3200ft was outstanding and the highlight of the trip.

Not bad for a guy with no skins  ;) your legs must have been feeling mush like the snow below Granite after all that work.

Dave does not tire--even after 15 hours of skinning and skiing. He is a freak of nature. And his not having skins is good news for me when I am back on snow, as he won't be laying down such a steep up-track--I can never stay...
Hey Dave,

I don't know if it was you or not but I met a handfull of people at the notch there above the Bryant Col. If so nice to meet you but either way that is a cool trip.
Nicely done! Sunshine looks sweet...

We brought the drab weather with us to Boise for the weekend...

Wow, that is great creative route selection.  Neat point to point, following the sun across the snow as the day progresses, great way to get up a couple of summits, and VERY strong!
Very nicely done.

adding  my own armchair switchbacks and such.

Great line, Joe!  You put in one heck of a virtual skin track, I'm sure!  Already done some "armchai...
Nice effort Dave and Monika-
Great pictures too! Since you did such a nice job describing the route I used my topo electronic mapping and came up with almost the same elevation profile +/-. The distance came out to about 10.5 miles, adding  my own armchair switchbacks and such. There probably was more mileage with switchbacks, back tracks and all. Great effort and route finding, GPS or all map and compass? There seemed to be some pretty thick forested areas from your look back picture....
Thanks SG!

Sure, I'd love a split in my quiver, but just spent a wad on the Nidecker Ultralight, so can't yet justify it.  I'm sure it will come though.
Boot
might you be interested in a split board?
cheers

NICE PICS!!!!!!!!!!!
I ski too Joe, just like boarding better 8).  If they can't leave the road alone in the winter, you'll just see me elsewhere before you see me bc skiing.

Boot
Nice trip report Boot!
Once again an outstanding hike an awesome effort! Looks like it rewarded you well.
You know that carrying all that gear (approach skis) just for the ease of snowboarding can all be remedied by taking up skiing.  ;) And it will lighten your load considerably!

Sounding like a broken record on this subject, but to revisit the Snow Park issue at Silver Creek/ 410 for those who have missed it in previous threads.
Snow Parks had discussed (last Sum...
My rant was a rant born of frustration with no humor intended.  The honest truth is I have no idea why they plow the road.  I have spent three years now doing tons of research and talking to people at DOT, MRNP, and State Snow-Parks and still can not figure it out.  All I know is it isn't satisfactory to any of the winter recreationists and I'm hopeful that Monica can help broker a meeting where we can figure out what ought to be some reasonable solutions.  No press...
Good post Lar, I told you I was going to have to start working out if you were going to change your Meds.
For anyone else suspecting declining exercise performance due to blood pressure creeping up with age, be sure to check out the Vasotec type drugs commonly known as "prils" Enalapril, Lisinopril...
In another life I had the pleasure of being the technician on many exercise tests in which Enalapril was being trialed for increased exercise performance.  It was supposed to b...
Love your reports, thanks.

Have mostly made the switch this winter from downhill to long-distance touring; I'm always looking for more places to go and your reports help me know where else to keep scoping the maps!

Hope to see you in the mountains soon.

Cheers,
Morgan

Back country in the 'Shire???  You're kidding!!!

Bert an' I used to ski hiking trails and 4000ers in the knickers-and-Merrells days of the 1980's.
I can only presume it's to injure, force, or otherwise discourage we the public from treading on Their Park

So do you really think that they plowed in order to prevent you from entering the park, or did I just misplace my sense of humor?
Thanks I too have had problems with BP med's. I thought I was crazy but it helps to know I'm not alone.
First of all, really good discussion.  In regards to Ash_J's comments, believe me, like most TAYer's we suck it up and deal with the winter access inconveniences, which Washington State is very good at dishing up.  What we would really like would cost the least amount, just plow the parking area, and leave the road alone through the winter and we would be content. We have regularly cleared downed trees from the roadway, and even though it sometimes takes hours to get over an...
Thought I'd just chime in and say that I grew up skiing Suicide Six in Woodstock, Vermont.  S6 is tiny compared to most "modern" mountains in the east, but Red (in a really ghost-town creepy kind of way) has S6 beat in the modesty category for sure.  Hope you enjoy your stay back in NNE!
Hiya Chris... I'm thinking you're the Chris we skied to Muir with a couple years ago??  (And then, about a year later, ran into on the summit of Snoqualmie?)

Great pics/TRs, guys... truly a great weekend to be out playing in the snow. 8)
