After a late ski up Edith Creek and over to Mazama Bowl on Sat, Brenda and I returned to Paradise on Sun for what was sure to be blue bird and an early gate opening. We, along with Scotsman and his crew, joined up with Jarvis and company for a ski from the base of Pan Pt down to the Nisqually Bridge. Having never skied this run before, Brenda and I were a bit anxious. Seeing Ron opening up a yard sell on the first steep pitch didn't offer Brenda much encouragement. This was soon behind us, as we found decent powder all the way to the bridge.

After a car shuttle back to the top, and a brief encounter with the ranger, Brenda and I followed Ron on one of his "classic" tours, that ended with fantastic run down Narada Face.

I was verrrrrrrrrry nice snow and verrrry ncie to see you and Brenda again!

Nice to meet you folks.

Scotty, Stuart & Chris - a great day. Let's do it again soon.

Thanks for the great post, pics, and super fine company. Many thanks also to the Rangers and Brenda's plugs!

is this BC?  or lazy car slogging?  geez.  all that payoff for so little work.  should be a crime.  actually, it is (according to said ranger).  those of us poaching the main line Nisqually were commenting on all your tracks earned with nary a 500 foot vert climb.  :)

Proly more like a 600 or 700 ft vertical, Jayme, but who's counting ;)
Way to nail the chutes; hope we didn't poach too much of your freshies taking the lazy way in, but geezers are not usually well known for passing up easy turns for more work.  From the way it looked on your great viddy and pics it appears you took the other side down anyway so it seems we didn't spoil your line.
The rangers did have some sage council on the matter to be sure, which ultimately will help us refine our efficiency in poaching more free snow ;)
For some strange reason, when possible, the geriatric contingent seems to favor days skiing mostly down hill rather than up... I forget why...
Michael, thanks for taking over the reporting duties; it was good to see you and Brenda again.  Should be more freshies to poach next weekend!!

Is it a crime to ski out of a public parking lot on public land down to a public bridge/parking lot? Is it a crime to do it again?

Honestly curious.

Great day out guys! Sorry for adding to the deluge of skiers tracking up the Nisqually- we could not resist, seemed too good to be true. I hope the chutes are still in next weekend, I need to ski from up there, looked awesome jayme.

thanks to all for a good time. Scottie, make sure to give your son hell for forgetting the camera.

Ron- did you get any pics? Plz post some or send to me thru email. Real beaut of a day.

Chris

Good question, TS, and in all fairness to the Rangers, one that deserves a clear answer.
Our transgression had nothing to do with skiing to the bridge; the Rangers had no problem with that.  What they took umbrage to was our method of reconveyance back from the bridge up to Paradise for the next lap.  Rather that shuttle sufficient drivers up to retrieve enough vehicles to provide all riders with a seat and a seat belt, we made like college kids packing into a phone booth.  Our guffawing and giggling over whole thing after being stopped didn't help matters much.
Despite our cutting up, the Ranger took the time to patiently explain that while it obviously seemed to us to bear little risk traveling for such a short distance over such a lightly traveled road with an experienced winter driver, the risk was not so much with our driver (who clearly knows how to drive on icy roads); the danger lies with all the folks that make it to Paradise that are not experienced winter drivers who seem to regularly lose control of their vehicles and run head on into experience drivers.  He went on to point out that they had cleaned up no less than SEVEN serious and messy accidents just the previous day, all caused by Pilgrims losing control of their rigs and running into others.  The Rangers just wanted us to clearly understand what a messy accident they would have to deal with should someone run into us with all those peops packed into the vehicle, many without seat belts.
They were really quite nice about the whole incident and decided (possibly with some urgings from our hero Brenda, who was not amongst the transgressors) to let Bonnie off with a warning.  A noble deed, to be sure.
So the word's out folks: seat belts for all.

I always knew you where a law breaking rebel Jarvis. You and Maddog are the Bonnie and Clyde of Paradise. :D

Yep.  I can understand that.  What with the Japanese fella who gestured me into being in a picture with him: clearly had never seen 7 foot snowbanks before.  So also with all the Seattle newbies speeding up the road without narry a care in the world, nor any recollection of something called black ice...

Aha. Seat belts are awesome. Sounds good! :).

:-[ Shoot you would think at our age we would have know better, but with all the excitement and the endorphins running high we just got a little over zealous.

We weren't really laughing because it was funny, we were laughing wondering who we were going to call to bail us out if necessary,........our kids?.  We did all agree that it was a nice reminder that safety comes first.

Let's hope our final episode isn't the same as theirs  ;).

It was another fantastic day in Paradise, with the final run down Narada Face being the best snow of the day  ;D

Chris

Sorry, Chris, didn't get any shots of you mainly 'cause I couldn't keep up with you ;) Posted a few that may be useful for those that haven't skied the left (east) notch down the snout yet, but are going to.
It's a pretty fun ski and completely different than the right snout ramp (proly shouldn't do the middle unless you like to catch big air ;)

What more could you ask for?
Shorter hike, longer run and a lecture from the man!
Guess it wasn't the same guy with the bullhorn at Sunrise?
Looked like a great time.
Way to drop a knee Brenda!
