As near as I can tell from the map, we skied straight down the creek. We followed the drainage that comes closest to the road-bend just below the visitor's center. The route we skied did include one (and only one, in contrast with nearby stuff) small waterfall (We were in complete agreement that it was between 45 and 60 degree water ice, but weren't sure at any higher precision - 10-20' high, it seemed). Edging under the powder was fabulous - Will made the crux go with a combinati...
Way to save the day with a bold, impressive line! Looks at least 45 degrees from the bridge? Thought I remembered a small summer waterfall in there - did you enter right down the creek?
In the '70's when I was hiking in the area the maps labeled the peak Pheobe's Tit. Must have been changed to a more politically correct name. :)
Fun day with good folk on snow!
After looking again at the topo, looks like it was Dead Horse and not a nearby couloir. Careful if you're routefinding in there - slots adjacent to what we skied looked like nifty ice climbs.

Thanks for the report.
I love your login name. "Shredding the hills--before bedtime!"

We left the snowmobile trailhead at about 10:30 Saturday night. The snowmobile trail starts near the North end of Priest Lake in the Idaho Panhandle. We rode about 25 miles to the Mollies warming hut with 2 memorable moose encounters. The snow is so deep this y...
Thanks for information and directions--eventually I'll get to a few of these places..........sg
Any good BC in that part of the range that does not require a snowmo to get at?
that guy Jack English...super guy and a good guy to have breaking trail for sure! The range must be near Jack's place I'm guessing. Sounds like it was a really cool trip.............
1. Go straight up 97 to Tonasket, then E on SR 20.
2. He was cool.
3. Actually, we caught him on the up, but he showed us the phatness on the down.
4. He lives S of Colville now and said it was about 45 min. to Sherman Pass.

Skierhuitarist, the range is the Kettle Range and it lies near the town of Republic in the NE part of the state.
Drive to Omak and then Republic.
It's about 6.5 hrs from Seattle and a long way from Bend, OR.
It is a very cool place and nice and remote.

I'm not sure about from Foss(?)/Castle saddle, but it is accessible from the Pinnacle/Castle saddle (above the Pinnacle Glacier remnant and the slush-cup - not the usual Castle saddle destination). PeterC and I had a nice tour last year up to the col between Pinnacle and the Castle, then down the backside, up to the Pinnacle/Plummer saddle and then up to the Plummer summit. I hope this...

...scoped the south facing lines that lead over to Plummer Peak. We thought we would leave that for another day as we were unsure if it is accessible from the pinnacle castle saddle (see second pic). If anyone has some beta on that it would be much appreciated. We thought about descending the southern slopes on a westerly track and thought that at the 5900' point that it could be passabl...

Scotty, .... sorry to "kiss" and tell.

Close call Chris. I thought for sure that he would retaliate and tell everyone that you are a closet snowshoer.
You wouldn't want that to get out! :-[
Havnt been able to get camera to download, but will work on in during weekend.
While it is not visible on my photo, a huge "snowball" had rolled down from Ymir's ridge line to the ski tracks below. I didn't see any other obvious avi action around the resort.
Thanks, and no problem! I've hijacked a couple threads myself. Yeah, we didn't skimp on the food that's for sure. I think I got hungry once. I'm curious if you noticed any slide activity around Whitewater? We saw mention on the Canadian Avy website of a large slab that stepped down to a couple meters deep just outside the ski area a couple weeks ago. The thought of that was haunting me a bit the whole time we were there.
Thanks for letting us hijack your thread!
I enjoyed the video and your menu items were (a bit) better than ours at Sherman Pass.

Nice, Telemon. Looks like a fun trip.
Scotty, you sure do have a shank I don't want to mess with! That thing could knock the ice out of a dynafit or knock some sense into a young buck like me. Sorry, I figured you already told on your post about the dynafits anyways, sorry to "kiss" and tell.
Hopefully we do get a bit of new snow this weekend and that it bonds well to the old surface. maybe it will come down right side up. Sunday does look to be a promising day for the Nisqually tour and should still be ho...

Heckuva job, Oyvind and Monika. Mike, Lefty and I were several hours behind you (we could see you on the route as we started up - left the lot at 7:50). We stopped on the big bench on top of Winnie's Slide and just went back down Winnie's. But two adventurous lads in front of us left the high point there and pushed...off...south. Who were those two daring souls who skied Fisher Chimneys - actually the southernmore elevator shaft of the big two - while we were th...
Hmm, dynafit troubles. Must of been on the Musta's. Hope you got if fixed. I remember the angst they caused me in Las Lenas.

sucks you had to fall a few times because of them.

You promised you wouldn't tell. :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
Are you a kiss and tell tourer or what. :(
What happens on the tour says on the tour, capish, or you may have a little accident. Getting my drift, remember I now have my Dynafit prison shiv with me at all times. ;)

Yo Bob, how about a report on Coldsmoke? Would it be under BC, Lifts, or Random?
I guess that parts of the story could go into each of those categories, but Lift-assisted would probably be the most appropriate. This will have to do for now.

Agreed, a good day was had despite us having missed out on the goods on the other side of the valley.
The snow is always better on the other side of the Valley! Right ??? ;)
Looking at the forecast for the weekend, there may be a little avy danger out there if it comes to fruition.
Agreed, a good day was had despite us having missed out on the goods on the other side of the valley. It will be had, and how about this sunday? Let's do it! And scotty- you were no nuisance, equipment failures do happen and sucks you had to fall a few times because of them.

Great TR. Jill and I had planned a trip there the past 2 years but travel/weather conditions caused us to cancel. Your report confirms our future plans.

hey jason...what a great adventure
nice shots what kind of camera are you using?
nikon d200 with a 2.8 17-55 lens. It's big and heavy. There are probably other ways to go now that would be better and lighter. A nice lens is going to always be heavy though. Nikon seems to get really good color and works good on days like we had on Whitehorse. In fog or c...
Thanks for writing up the report and posting the photos Chris. I enjoy reading others TRs but seldom post my own. I suppose I had ought to contribute more and whine less.
I think that we all had fun and found a quality turn or three. We need to get back out there and ski the original goal. Even if the snow sucks, it will be worth it just to see Scotty "man up." ;D

Has anyone taken the Morse Creek Rd. up and over to Crystal Mtn? How long of a tour and what were conditions (terrain) like?
It's been a couple years but if you live on the east side it is a great option. Good parking on 410 at Morse Creek, short couple mile approach to the bases of Pickhandle and Crown Points, and great runs off each. Only issue I have had is fin...
Thanks for the company Joe and Chris. Nice day despite change in our objective. There was admittedly a lot of whining about the sun shining on the Nisqually Chutes and my malfunctioning Dynafits. I'll man up next time. :-[

I recently discovered the great terrain and relative solitude of the Paradise Glacier, and was amazed at what I'd been missing on the Muir Snowfield.
Yup... felt like I had the entire park to myself up there.
This is the best trip report that I've read on TAY......that's really I have to say on the subject.......and that I wish I could have shared in the trip.......the report was good enough for me.
Thanks
Stacy

Bo is working on getting the video to you. I spoke with him last night about it. How was Jackson?
you're welcome (for the skin tracks) :) abc

Great trip Telemack. Skiing fast throught the ghost trees of the burn areas was about as fun as I've ever had with my clothes on! The are is really cool and the hut cosy.
Hopefully Blitz or Grant will post pics as we are both losers and don't have any!
This thread although intersting and not useless ,would be very much enhanced by some bloody pictures. ::) ::) ::...

thanks, Robie. We did the same trip today; the only difference was the menu--powder only! ;D But things started to soften up by 2 p.m. or so.
Nice recap Kyle....sounds like your trip out was not so much fun! Bo and I had a great time touring with you two and hopefully we can break trail together again...

That's a good quote for this story Snowbell. More appropriate I think. And yeah, you can't really tame the whitehorse. It was just tame from the shock of all the sun we got that day. :)
That is an unbelievable adventure and a fantastic report with pictures. Thank you.
