Someone wrote in another thread that the fine was $100 for climbing above 4800' without a permit.
This is a bit of a dilemma - Personally, I feel that MSH doesn't use their money very wisely. But putting money towards a permit that one has issues with is your own choice.
Since the summer climbing season is the most popular, they limit the number of people on the mountain to 100 (between I believe Memorial Day and Labor Day). I never hit MSH during this season, but have a week before the limit went into effect. We ran into a climbing ranger, and so did a number of othe...

On the active.com website where you register for your permit, if it says (not available) next to the date, as it does for all weekends in the forseeable future, I assume this means they are sold out? And theoretically, the odds/financial damage of forgetting this and skiing anyway would be....?
Wet corn on Monday, 8 " of powder bonded to frozen corn on Tue. Wow.
Did I say Wow? Wow!
What an epic day. I got to ski new (to me) lines, meet fun new folks, and ski w/o hardly putting in any skin tracks.
Thank you Joedabaker for keeping us out of the rocks and cliffs. So, w/ all the car shuttles and skiing off Naches and Yakima, how much vert did we pull?

I finally figured out the thumbnails and added a few more pictures..............
Steve, good to put a face with the name. It was such a fine day, everyone seemed to love harvesting the corn!

Saw a few tracks on some side peaks but nothing on Deception. Also, nothing on the Needles, but there is also little snow there.
'Tis true. The prospect of having skied snoqualmie powder and summit volcano corn in less than a week's time is pretty nifty.
I think this belongs in this thread, just for Tuesday's juxtaposition's sake:
.THURSDAY NIGHT...PARTLY CLOUDY. FREEZING LEVEL 12000 FEET.
.FRIDAY...MOSTLY CLOUDY. FREEZING LEVEL 11000 FEET.
.FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY...PARTLY CLOUDY. FREEZING LEVEL
10500 FEET.

unless you're looking forward to the imminent corn, in which case junetober is looking past the good stuff, while junuary seems appropriate for a transient flashback.
Junetober just seems more forward-looking ;).
Thanks for the great report Zap and the fun trip. I think we chose wisely. The freshies on Friday that turned to slurpee on Saturday were pretty well settled on Sunday. Fun in the sun!!

I'm hoping they get the road plowed to access the South Sister soon, as it's looking good!
It's not just looking good, it's looking TASTY! Broken Top coverage is also amazing! I think I feel a road trip coming on ...
Nice shot...both with the camera and the snow! ;)
Beautiful images. Welcome to the group.
Nice Work - I was wondering how the coverage was holding up at Tombstone. We had a blast riding pow up there this year. What an epic winter, still able to make good turns at that elevation in June! Hopefully we'll see you up there next year!

my personal preference is "Junuary" ;D
author=ovrthhills link=topic=10289.msg41472#msg41472 date=1213146729] Had to pack a camera for that one.
True I rarely bring a camera but since turning 50 I have become much smarter as the only way I was going to get first tracks with this bunch of hooligans was the old " I'll just ski down first so I can take some photos of you guys" ruse. Worked just fine.
With age cometh wisdom. ;)
Oh yah.... Iron Mt.-- WAY TO GO... might have to check that one out too! Nice picks!!!!!!!! BTW I believe one of the Skoogs skied the W. Rib on Jeff bunch of years back...I have the Coulior Mag with the story I believe--sort on my list too......
Nice to see the Olympics get done. Bet there weren't any other tracks up there.
Chris, doesn't look like you'll have to go to Argentina for powder this year. You guys are true fanatics but I wish I were there instead of painting my bedroom. Had to pack a camera for that one. Nice. Corn this weekend.
Just got back now from our ski, that 20 minute drive is killing me.
All I can say is the echo of others ""Wow".
After Scotty left, we skinned up to the false summit of Naches and into the bowl that leads to Upper Tipsoo lake, did a couple good ski cuts and the snow was stable in the bowl with good adhesion to the base layer. Went up again and did several car shuttles as Zap mentioned all the way to 123.

I woulda carried those fat skis for ya just for the report alone ;)
Absolutely great line. It is without a question the most esthetically beautiful descent on Mount Hood.
You have much wisdom Zap! Glad you got some and enjoyed some of mine and "the boys" uptracks. Good luck with the fishing!
My intentions were honorable but my execution was a weeee bit poor. I also went to Chinook Pass anticipating that others would arrive early and put in a nice uptrack in all that powder. But 5:30am, geeez. I arrived a bit later and followed some great up tracks and noticed some nice descent lines. Nice work guys. My initial runs were ;). Then, unfortunately, the clouds became fog, visibility decreased and the snow changed to snow/drizzle as noon arrived. After a few runs, I packed up and star...
Wow, I really need to ski Jefferson.
That's a great looking chute!
We were up there two weekends ago, and were eyeing that one, but got too late a start.

Hey hey we were up there the same day a few hours behind you. I think we saw you drop into upper heather and then traverse out into the main area. The headwall looked most excellent.

Good on ya trumpetsailor. You are hereby nominated to the Junetober Powder Clan!

That looks like it goes at 5.5 or 5.6 maybe? How long is the pitch and what's the rock quality like?
Nice! Glad to see you didn't find the same sub-powder goo we found near Snoqualmie.
Hey Korup, long time no ski. Pm me some time and we can hook up.
wow! I wouldn't want to get caught in that one.
Dale - Thanks again for the amazing pictures!
The snow was variably sustrugified on the surface, but really nothing too bad for skiing, just a direction indicator of previous winds.
MW8 - I was thinking of - "three little birds"; I got to get some phones or something, those stuck in the head songs wear thin pretty quick.

Nice work, and good trip! AND GREAT PICS!!! Can't beat June faceshots!

"From the saddle, we were able to keep skis on all the way to the summit, although technically, we stopped at the easiest of the points on the summit ridge and didn't go for what looked like the actual summit as it didn't look very inviting..."
It's a fun little pitch. So close but yet so far...

I was in that area on Saturday and met the snowmobilers. I took the same approach as Haggis, but didn't bring my skis (I wished I had them once I crossed the creek and hit the solid snow). I booted my way up Hawkins. I had planned to scramble to the top of Hawkins, but after getting up to the ridge and waiting a while for the clouds to lift, I gave up. It was snowing on and off, but the biggest problem was that the tops of both Hawkins and Gallagher Head were in the clouds all day (not much...

Beautiful day, nice photos. The track in the second shot are from my group of five coming off Fortune for a run down Headlight Basin. We then traversed back to the SE bowl for the run down to the trail. Great day!
Russ, our party of 3 were descending the SE bowl of Fortune as your party was ascending. Your group seemed to be having fun on such a lovely day.

We saw you all putting in those tracks and climbing out. Snow in there felt really good as we climbed it, but we were too tired and it was too late to do a lap.

Nice! Looks like some great turns on Sunday! Definitely good weather! Nice work, nice pics!
Nice to meet you up there Adam! Thanks for the great skin track to all the Saturday skiers too.
That was a super fun June outing.

Invariably on trips, Sean regales us with his rendition of "Eggs and Toast" sung to the beat of "Exodus" first thing in the morning.
So, Dan, what was the tune?
