And by 'walk-back' Oyvind means 'jog with a seemingly hefty back-pack'. Not only did he pass us on the up, but blasted past us after our team of three (see pics above) on the way back to the car. Un/fortunately we decided to scrap summit plans and head down at slightly before noon. It seems that little altitude training, 3 hours of sleep at Sherman and no time to acclimatize don't help in preventing AMS :( At least we got to 13000+ feet! Next time we won't fall into...
Thanks Matt! Unfortunately, the following day was a tragic one and the people this happened to were camped not more than a football field E of where Kyle and I were at.

Here's a shot of the Nisqually Chutes slide from the top of Plummer.

I recall now seeing that slide as I was coming down the snowfield and thinking we were in better shape given its angle and the way it faced. I believe all these slides happened within ten minutes. Wind transport from the last storm and the temp hitting a certain point that day seemed to do the trick. Things were very connected at that elevation within that snowpack. I'm glad everyone is ok....what a forbidden fruit that corn was.
I half expected to run into you up there on Saturday Charles. We had the Crest to ourselves on Saturday but ran into lots of climbers and skiers from Meany on down. The entire Mod Squad was there, Eric, Julie, Pat, Tom, Mary, Allen, and Megan. Great skiing on Saturday as the Firnspeigel was soft and fast. Lots of "whumps" on the Fryingpan as the week old snow settled under the skin track, made the stomach jump a few times. Julie stuck a...
I was up on Muir that day as well shortly after the slide came down at the top of the Nisqually chute. Glad everyone was alright - it looked pretty scary from where we were. Part of it dumped into a crevasse as well.
We noticed minor settling on our hike up on any aspect that was more east facing, even on the lower angles.
Here is the slide from a different vantage:

Ya Scott, it was great meeting you and Kyle at the summit. No better way to spend a Saturday in my opinion. Our turns down the Coleman were great until we got to the steep slope above the bivi sites...that's where the snow turned a little heavy...beats walking down though. Looking forward to some future surf or turns. Great pics by the way!
AWEsome. looks like a fantastic weekend with the boys! great pics too.
Nice TR I have always wanted to head in that direction.
I was one of the two who arrived after the slide. From below we couldn't see anyone other than the triggering skier and the snowboarder who was engulfed. The snowboarder got tossed around like he was in a washing machine and finally disappeared from my sight. I was pretty sure he was buried. Then I saw the other two skiers ski around, and I thought they triggered another slide, shown circled to the left in this pic. The two slides seem to be separate. The crowns at least are. I marked Xs wh...
Wow, really glad everyone is OK! Ryan and SPICOLI, thank you for sharing your experiences.
I'd like to learn something from this so I hope no one minds if I ask some questions. Were these two slides on similar aspects? Can someone describe the snow conditions a little more? It looks like in Ryan's case it was all the recent snow sliding on older, dirtier snow? What was the snow like on the ascent? Weak or hard freeze at night?

I have wanted to do this in-out tour for quite a few years, conditions finally met my schedule.
Great trip Joe. I am back in hiking land and haven't had the energy to ski, but I am really sorry now that we didn't connect for this one. Looks excellent. Thanks for the pics.

The line off the back, post cornice shenanigans... Pete, let me know if you've got other photos you want to post and I'll take this one down...
Nice Work! There is a ton of snow up there..
Jack is a great place, and I agree with the fact that it has some of the best views in the range.

Does anyone have any reports of the large slide on the west side of the Nisqually glacier? My friend said it was in the middle of a climbers route. It was huge and it looked as if there was some activity below the debris, as in someone got snagged and was being tended to. Here's hoping to everyone's okay. Here's a photo, thanks again to Andy.

Nice shot of Sherman! Me likey. Is Interglacier starting to open up any more than it has already? (1 small crevasse, just below 8400' - 6.6.08)
Still just that one crevasse. Very obvious.
How steep was the pitch up there ?, Thanks Rob
Way to get out with your son, I was still riding the rope tow on the bunny slope at that age.
Also had a friend's dog get mauled by a goat up there while climbing S. Early. We didn't see it happen, but the dog also survived, thanks to a vet in Winthrop who treated him over the July 4th weekend.

WAY TO FULLFILL ANOTHER DREAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't believe it. That's all just photoshoped. :D
J/k, way to slay it right! That is sick. Unreal sick. Nice work!

When climbing there a couple years back, my buddy's dog was gored by a mountain goat...survived, but I watched as did he, from the top of the last rappel. Nice pics btw.
Very cool trip it sounds like. I suspect we were watching you from up above Ruth thinking what a nice tour that would be, too.
Another great tour and a fantastic day for it, to boot. I'd love to get back there for perfect corn top to bottom, but what we got was pretty damn good.
God, that's one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen....
We were on top of Steamboat Prow and a little past noon watched 3 skiers descend. Perhaps one of the three dots visible near the climbing trail is you skiing down...

Thanks, Cascadeclimber, for the report. Glad no one got too hurt.
Fun trip and good company. Always a bonus to tag the summit. The interglacier was excellent snow and the slog out was not quite as bad as I remembered even with the trail damage from the last couple of years.
Altasnob has some good shots of the route and us setting up at Camp Shurman on his reply to the Andyski report from Saturday.

Nice pics and thanks for the TR. Did you get a photo of Moraine Lake? I'm thinking about the Forbidden Tour and wondering if it is melted out yet.
This was a really fun trip! On the way up I wasn't so sure that the turns would be that good and was regretting bringing my joke boots and waxless (and "skinny") skis, but except for a short stretch right above Meany Crest where the crust of the newer snow was only sometimes supportive, the turns were great! Firn spiegel from Whitman Crest to the crummy section on the lower Fryingpan Glacier, mush on skier's left of the upper Meany Crest bowl where David took a little ride. O...
On a side note, thanks for dinner the other night.
Nice job getting that one gentlemen. Sweet.

I am certainly jealous I couldn't be there with you, but for the fact Adams was so pristine and wonderful, I don't feel so bad. Great photos and way to get up in there.

Snowmobiles are prohibited up there after May 15th. We skied there on friday and passed the climbing ranger on our way down. A really nice woman who had the unenviable task of trying to track them down that day while on snowshoes...

Brenda and I stopped below the col - a bit sporty for our tastes, maybe next time.
The col looks worse than it goes, md2020. Nice deep boot track helps. It's worth the grunt.
Nice pic. My butt doesn't look so big from that distance.
Joe, saw your tracks coming down to Cayuse Pass Sunday as we drove home. Funny you mention Shriner's views as we were there Sunday, and went all the way east to Cougar Sat, both from Deer Crk at Hwy 123. I'll see if I can get something up tonight; very spectacular view day! 8)
Brenda and I stopped below the col - a bit sporty for our tastes, maybe next time. We had a nice intro to the area, this being our first ski tour in the Washington Pass area. Had some decent skiing in the bowl above Blue Lake the day before. Another beautiful weekend.
Here's a shot of your crew climbing to the col.
I thought snowmobilers aren't allowed to go to the top after a certain date, which I think is long passed.
Way to utilize your weekend. That's a good two-day showing.

Should I assume that anyone can get hold of me through the message service from this site? This is in reference to the garments we recovered yesterday.
I would rather not post my email address.

Nice TR -- sounds great!
And yeah, anyone who cares enough about their garments will sign up/in and send you a PM...

It's really good to be back and I feel much more at home on this side.
The approach is well worth it. Cascade Pass is one of my favorite places and the views are incredible.
A few more photos:

I was there when it happened. It was skier-triggered from above and a boot-packing snowboarder was caught and washed halfway down the slope. He was extremely lucky that he wasn't buried in it and walked away with a scraped arm and some missing gear. The snowboarder was just above the rock when he got hit and I think the skier was in the bottleneck and somehow didn't get caught.
Later in the day most of the Wilson Headwall broke loose and slid.
I got some video of...
