Was sunny above 9k or so on Muir, but that still left about 4k of the descent in...well, you know :'(
The clouds ended at about 9k, at which point the wind started. I got about 1,000-1,500 feet of visibility from Anvil Rock down, which was on really fun, dense pow. Below that, I actually thought the snow was good (except below Pan Point), but it doesn't matter when you can't see anything. Classic whiteout below about 8k.
Heh -- 28's been great for a while now :)
Fun day for sure!  Told you I could get that camera of yours to focus!

After us bailing on the pass and turning up home some 4 hrs later than originally stated, there was some silence in the house last night - worth it for great June turns though...
Jodabaker,I just knew you couldn't sit there . Way to score big! :)
Greg ,And on the flattish sections you could use just one of the skins! ;)
Not trying to rub it in, Chris, just give some useful info. :D  Looks like Joedabaker also found blue skies from the same rain shadow at Crystal.

I saw no crevasses anywhere on the Inter Glacier, either Monday or Saturday.

Hey way to go...nice LONG RUN!  So can a person these slip up there onto them mountain without a permit?  (Not that I would ever do such a thing) nor a NW Pass?

I am feeling the same way these days, esp. with all the passes being hard to get, etc. I also plan on making it out there in the next two weeks and hope the snow holds up well in the lower elevations...
Flawless design- I see the dynafit bindings are nicely integrated as well. I enjoy your creativity!

Chris
Way to rub it in Amar- I believe that your report is going to be the only one with no pea soup on the menu. I cannot believe how nice a day you all had out there. I hope to get up there soon as the getting seems to be really good now. Any signs of crevasses poking thru?

Chris
how's the big "28" marcus?  Hope all is well for you!
Son Zach and I were also out at Chinook Pass today.  We found anything steeper than about 30 degrees was sure to slough 4-6 inches deep.  But much fun was still had.  We brought the ridiculously fat skis some of you have seen us on at Alpental in May.  My problem was - how do you find (or afford) skins for those things.  Zach used some cut for a 95mm waist ski, and that worked surprisingly well.  I dug around in the basement and found two pairs of 55mm skins from ab...
Definitely the place to be today. Chinook was socked in. Saw the sun up by Inter Glacier on the drive down and started kicking myself, hard.
Hey Joedabaker, Brain Damage is looking mighty skinny 3/4 of the way down.  Side slip or straight line?  Either way, nicely done!
That was me and my dog.  She loves going skiing, but she pretty much hasn't moved since we got home...

I might have seen you guys skinning up when I was going up the south side of the king.  Not many people there today.
JPH,
Were you the bootpacker with the dog?
If so you booted a long way!
I was there today too.  Skied one of the chutes off of Threeway, then skied the hourglass off the King.  The snow was really good higher up.

The south backcountry area still has incredible coverage.

Happy Birthday Marcus,
Hmm.. Cinnamon rolls...

One should not sit on the couch but get up there and apreciate the chance to improve thier slush techniques.

Robie,
I Got off the couch and to the Pass, into the fog. It (fog) looked set in it's way and the frozen fog/rain was not enticing. So we went to Crystal in search of legendary Joe's Bad Ass Shoulder, where it is never foggy.  ::)
This is S...
Regarding the skunk report at Crater Rock- There must have been a north wind blowing the fumaroles down the mountain...  The skunk probably thought there was a mate up there!  I admit, it wasn't Reid Headwall, but not all of us can be Dan!  It was sweet, buttery, summer corn, and a great, natural, ski and attitude tune up!
Wow - those look like some pretty wacked conditions.  Seems like it would be alot of knee jerking & dropping-the-clutch type of skiing.  Way to maintain the S.
beautiful!

seems like there might be some kind of skunk problem on Hood, I remmember reading about this bizarre incident last June - http://www.turns-all-year.com/skiing_snowboarding/trip_reports/index.php?topic=7360.0
Incredible trip!  That's what we live for!!  Mt. Hood was the same conditions that day- I can't remember a better summit ski in the 32 years I know of.  A couple days later The Sunday Oregonian featured a climber named Asit from Hood River skiing off the summit- I thought it was Amar until I did more research...

Over a foot of new in the mountains again- looks like spring won't quit!  Now when is this weeks window going to be- after the windslab and before the we...
Nice job Amar and company for catching the freshies in June.

Were you able to ski out?

I wasn't able to ski out. Fortunately I was able to walk down by putting all the weight on my heal and then butt sliding where it was to steep to walk.  Ron would ski to the bottom of the steep part and guard my slide from either sliding into a tree well or a tree.  Bonnie carried my skis out on her pack and Chris carried my pack.

I'll update it this afternoon if it's good/safe  enough to stay and ski.

Robie,
I'll sit on my couch anxiously awaiting your report.  ;)
Nice job you guys.
Sure looks like you hit a good weather window.
Amar ,thanks for the timely report and heads up. Throwin the gear in the car now. I'll update it this afternoon if it's good/safe  enough to stay and ski.
Jeanette,

Injuries suck.  Get well soon.

Dale,  Welcome to TAY.  Thanks for the enjoyable TR and photos.
Jeaneatte- glad that I was able to keep your secret safe, now all of TAY knows and this thread has been hijacked! You are certainly worth a hijacked thread and we would all chip in and drag you up the hill like we did the keg awhile ago.  Wanna go for a sled ride?!

Heal well and quickly, the snow is going to be around all summer. Slush fest may not even get to happen at this rate, so you just have a summer of corn skiing to look forward to once it comes.

Glad your pc is up...
Nice report, Dale,
it's great to see you posting here.  I didn't get a chance to properly thank you for taking over guiding duties for our other local that had to get back to work during the WR descent of our Silcox crew earlier in May.
It's good to have another real experienced local Hood climber posting on TAY to help show our eager young adventurers the sweet lines of...
You better get better.  I still ned you and Ron's help to finally find the "stash" and I have the last weekend in July slated for that.

I agree with Snowbell - there would be a lot of volunteers.
"Let us know if the cast stays on longer than expected and I am sure a couple of us will be happy to drag you up on a hill "

Don aka Rusty Knees

Wonga -- that sucks Jeanette.  Here's to a speedy recovery!  *clink*
That's a real bummer Jeanette.

Good thing you got your June turns in on the first of the month! You now have eight weeks to get it back together for your July turns - or you'll look pretty funny hiking up Mt Raineer on crutches with skiis on you back ;D.
man that's a drag. Brenda broke her fibula back in the summer of 2000 while we were hiking out from Norse Peak. Her's required a small plate and screws, which are still in place. Were you able to ski out? That had to have hurt like hell.  I had to carry Brenda piggy back the 2 miles or so down to the car. Anyway, get well soon. We're hoping to ski with you soon.
I skied Great Scott bowl a few days before snowman, same deal a late afternoon run after work.  I agree, the snow conditions all the way down to Source Lake are still very good to excellent, starting to finally corn up nicely when I was there.  With the new snow in the forecast, we could see some powder days soon ;)

In contrast, a few days before that, did a quick skin/boot up International (upper) from the parking lot, on a warmer day and besides the expected bumps up there, the snow...
a good trip indeed, I dont think I coulda done it without the 2000 calorie breakfast on monday morning!  At least I will have a ton of turns to reminisce over while Im in lockdown for the rest of this month.  See ya when I get out Kyle, looks like the cool weather this month will make for some good skiing up on Rainier when I get out.
Mad_Dog.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery. You'll make the streak, have no fear!
Cheers,

A good way to spend an hour or two.  More importantly, they were the first turns my wife has earned, and now she's asking for AT gear.

Y'all win!
That's Great!!
Now all ya need is for Art to rig ya up one of those hand throttles on your Tahoe like the have for the handicapped and you'll make short work of that cabin fever  ;D
Thanks to everyone for your kind words and encouragement ;D I really appreciate it.  You've made my bushel of lemons into some pretty nice lemonade today.  I've got myself some crutches and a really cute leg scooter with hand brakes, a basket, and cup holder of all things.  I think the cup holder would actually hold a bottle of wine if necessary  :D.  All it needs to jazz it up is a horn and some handle bar streamers  ;).
Best wishes to a quick recovery Jeanette!!!!
You guys are hardmen.
"gettin' it done" ...to say the least.
"Snog"- snowing fog.  I figure Hawaii has their "vog"; Paradise has "snog" ;).
Hey ,You are tough and young ! And then there is tandem skiing !
Most important is your recovery cause there's one hell of a lot skiing left in ya !
Can I sign your cast?  8) Hope you don't go crazy there on the couch....you'll be back before you know it!
That looked great Boot.  Smooth snow, probably good to stop early before the snow turned on you?
What is the climbing definition of snog?
It was already dug out ourelse we would have.  ;)
Dan, I am more envious that you caught a break in the weather.
Just kidding, kinda....
Great lines to be had on that mountain!
Thanks for sharing.
Very nice efforts guys. What no digging out any outhouses?
Thanks for sharing the report.
