not sure if you're the same JD on TAY that my buddy kevin and i met on rainier last june or not, but live in bend and if you're down for skiing next weekend and need an extra partner let me know.  have fri/sat/sun off.
cheers,
chris
nicely done...definitely looks like the best way to get into Del Campo right now...we gave Del Campo a try on Saturday morning via Weden Creek/Gothic Basin trail.  Deep snow cover in the valley bottom, huge piles of avy debris, and high water levels in creeks made for very slow going...we ran out of time and turned around before even making it to Foggy Lake.  Have to opt for the Sunrise Mine side next time now that the slide alder jungle has been conveniently obliterated by avies.
Ahh Mt Baldy. I remember a multi-foot bluebird opening day when I lived down there. Good stuff..
impressive. very impressive!
Thanks again for the report since Eric and I are headed down there next week. I know what you mean about the photos eating time! Where you going next?
What a great place to ski! Thanks Jim, for talking John and I into skiing another pitch. And for the record: I was able to sooth Regi's nerves...

Jim climbing the final pitch.

John slaying some steep corn.

Wow, asandygal, thanks for sharing your pics of these areas!  I am memorized!  Way to get it - for 57 straight months!
I forgot to add some other route photos. I drove up Lolo Pass Rd afterwards, I was shocked to find it blocked by a large snowdrift at only 2900 ft, about 8 miles (?) from US 26. So no way to get the NW head-on shot of Sandy Headwall, but I could get westerly shots of Reid and Sandy:

got a "loaner" ;) camcorder from wal-mart, made a pretty mediocre video of my nonstop 12-8.5ish K descent of the finger, kind of cool sound effects though, no editing, it gets kind of boring, when i start traversing towrds the end.

Thanks for the report, we're heading down that way Monday, we'll see if the weather cooperates.
I headed up that way today (the 21st) to make another mosey up Snoqualmie. Things on the N/E side of the valley are pretty well melted out. In the ski resort, coverage is still kind of ok, with solid coverage on International. Near the base, you'll be patching things together. The "backcountry"'s still mostly covered, as is the E aspect of Bryant. Access to the upper part of Snoqualmie's probably more enjoyable from the Commonwealth side now, though the steep forest was...
Very nice shots - reminds me of evenings on Mt. Pilchuck looking down at the sound - only you're closer.
We too were impressed by the "rain"bow.  Very vivid.  Daughter Heidi & I were dragging her BF along for his first backcountry experience (freeheel, too!)  He survived, though the borrowed boots kind of ate his feet.

Zap, we too went CCW, but were behind you by an 1/2 hour or so. (Those darn kids always want to sleep in and miss all the sun crust...)

Keith, we heard no yodel, but likely chatted with you for a while on the south side of the peak.&...
Excellent tr and wonderful photos...another cool place to check out!!  Thanks...
Awesome!

glad you got it in good condition.
And hello to you, Telemack  ;D
Sounds like a great way to spend last day of school.

Rather than going to top C2 I ventured for a few laps in the 'backcountry' so I'll report on conditions there. Martin and Sharon bowls were still pretty good, some sections lumpier because of old slides but snow texture was softish and decent semi corn. From Stokes onward there seemed to be more incipient runnels and cups, and a little stickier too (pollen?) but still decently...
Tioga Pass and Mammoth Lakes have been our destinations for our late summer turns...

The Kook Chute served us well for September and August and July this past year:

- September

- August

Chris:  Did you even mention this yesterday?  ???  Way to go
Keith, we did hear your yodeling and Jill responded with a mini yodel.  ;)
That is one of my favorite trips. Was going to do that last Sat, but opted for the Tamanos traverse.
I do it in different order, Seymour, 6597 and finish with Naches.
But it is fun just the same!
Looked like some acrobatic climbing in the ski boots on Naches!
Thanks for the picture(s) looking back a Naches, looks like my line to get to Seymour is still in tact.
That route last year had some skiing combined with spicy waterfall down climbs, an on and off again relationsh...
Nice job Zap,
When I was driving from Portland and over Cayuse, I almost drove off the road looking at that rainbow.
Glad you captured it in a photo! That was really some phenomena.

Nice trip on a pleasant day!
I wanted to run and get my skis, but I was to focused on the Union Creek thing.
Nice trip!  Sounds like you guys got some great conditions for skiing it!
I was up there today as well. I climbed naches twice.

Pehaps you heard me yodeling?

Here's my shot of the rainbow as I approached naches peak via the north (?) bowl
I remember in the fall of 2004, must have almost been October, there was a still patch of snow on the north side of Baldy!  Perhaps the beginnings of the North Baldy Glacier?  Would have only been good for two or three turns, tops, though.  That was sure a wet spring.

Anyway, way to get after it and thanks for pictures of some old stomping grounds.

-Andrew
Nice job on month 57!  Nice streak!  So, I'm curious if you're willing to share where you're able to get turns in August and Sept...I'm guessing the Sierra Nevada somewhere?  Nice work, thanks for joining up in the TAY community!  Looking forward to more reports from CA!
Wow, quite a change from 2 weeks ago!
Your dedicated is admired.  However, feel free to consider a trip to WA anytime you need to get your turns in....  Our snow is more accessible.  ;)

What a relief you found snow at all...  That could have been a real letdown if you couldn't ski at all.

Thanks!  That's helpful.  I kind of was guessing that the late snowfall might have been what was triggering.  Now that we're getting some heat, hopefully things will be pretty consolidated.  I read the Fuhrer's Thumb TR from Rainier (6' crown a week ago) and it got me wondering.

So I take it stability is good?  We're looking at July 1 for a climb/ski day.  Anything you can add to your already excellent TR?

Stability seemed good for us.  No hollowness or sluffing.  The slides that we saw (4) from the previous weekend were all on the same aspect (just south of east) and appeared to be a result of wind loading from the previous snowfa...

The snow will be different on July 1.

Undoubtedly.  I'm just trying to get a sense of how conditions were compared to a week or so ago.  Sounds like the warmth may be consolidating the pack a bit, or at least I'm hoping so.

Dale,

I remember your buddy Steve the Silcox host telling a few tales of wintertime counter-counterclockwise traverses. Don't know if he ever reads or posts here or not.

Jim
I have skied around clockwise five times now since 1979- I wish it was more, and other mountains.  I have heard of much shorter trips counter-clockwise.  I am very interested in a description of the counter-clockwise route if someone has one!  But then there is nothing like just going out and figuring it out for yourself...  The circumnavigations provide an experience above any summit I have reached and skied.

and yes of course- thanks to randy beaver for some beta! awesome trip, thanks for making it safer too. all the climbers were glad that the slabs were already triggered.

Awesom, Alan.  Thanks so much for the beta.  I think we'll try the loop and hairpin.  I'll try posting a TR afterward.  Peace.  -Erik

Please do!  I'm thinking of heading up there on Thursday and would love an update on how the snowpack is holding up.  Have fun  :)

Travis
Hey Lordhedgie,

We were the folks just gearing up when you made it back to the parking lot. Enjoyed talking with you. It was fun seeing your wife ski sessel in a dress. Have to admit I have never seen that done before  :) .

Nash was a great ski last evening.
What kind of camera are you shooting with?
Hella fun times, thanks again for joining me for this, guys!  ;D

Sigh... *one* of these days I'll get my photos organized and captioned and uploaded to the interwebz ....
Went up after work and got to the top at about 8, Rainier was looking good.  I wanted to hang out and catch it closer to sunset so I took a lap down Edelweiss to pass the time, the snow was great.

Got back up to the top and snapped a few shots of Rainier in her evening wear before heading down nash and back to the car.  The snow on the run down was really good.

Dale,

Way to get after it!

Wish I could have been there as I've never been on the west side of Hoodie that high.

Thanks for the excellent report and photo's

Jim
Nice work!  good pics of the area...not familiar with it, so it gives great perspective.

Hey TS, I was thinking that that must have been you that kicked off the slide at about 9,000' we saw on our circumnavigation- maybe they were Not Dan's.

The number of volcanoe circumnavigations this year is getting ridiculous.  I think I'll try Glacier Peak this weekend; in one day of course ;D.  Very nice collage of images, by the way!

Careful :). You might've just stumbled on a good idea ;).

thanks a lot for shooting the video! I'm definetly impressed with the quality, although being shot at an angle to fall line, it makes my left turns appear a little sharp... definetly an inspiration to start useing a camcorder
