BOOT turns.  Yeah.. my man..     ;D

Read the line after that---where he said, "So of course I...went back to SKI"
Yeah, man.      ;) ;) ;)

We did Mount Stuart this weekend via the West Ridge

Nice!  That looks like a fun route.  I enjoyed your pictures.

By the way, there is a really fast looking snow machine windshield at the bottom of the ski pitch just above Lake Ingalls in case anyone lost something like that. ;)
according to the news, this is the most persistent snowpack ever at Paradise; but I know that when I was still doing TAY in the 90s we skied to the road a number of times in mid-August.

On Monday my wife and I climbed the fun popular route on Ingalls Peak and what did we find between the climb and the lake below?  1000' of continuous boot skiing all the way to the lake shore.  ..

BOOT turns.  Yeah.. my man..     ;D
Ended up with Wednesday off instead of Tuesday so I missed you guys.  Had to go check out this car to car skiing in mid August ;D
Has anyone skied to the car at Paradise this late in the year?  Won't be continuous much longer.  Skied a few lines I have been eying the last few years.

Very nice route selection.

Were you wearing your beacon and carrying your shovel ?  ;)
We were able to stay off snow in the initial approach gully.  The gully crossing to the base on LJT was still very firm frozen snow and we used crampons to cross all 100 feet of it.  There might be a bypass on the rock above the gully but we didn't explore.  We also used crampons the next day descending the Cascadian just below the false summit, since we had to bivy at 9200'.

Sorry for the hijack, but was the W Ridge of Stu relatively snow free (especially the approach couloir to LJT)?
This completely changes our plans to bring skis next week! :)
almost didn't go - so glad I did!

heading towards Paradise

Nice to meet you, Silas, Stefan, and Justing and nice to see Amar again.
I was hoping to do some serac climbing down at the toe of the Coleman this weekend. Any word on how it looked?
We heard thunder and saw the dust from the rock fall from the parking lot.  On the way up, we saw two skiers drop into the chute around 1:30.  I wanted to follow but, we were unsure of the climb out.  So we opted for my for my girlfriend's first attempt at Camp Muir.  We made it in about 8 hours round trip in hiking boots with snow boards on back.  The views were spectacular and the descent was "sporty".  The trenches left by the garbage bag glisader...
John - Shoulder is good, better every week.  I just can't climb fast or ski well :(
Nice to see your trip reports, the character-builders are always an inspiration.
I see you have beefier skis to go with your shorter approach.
How does McCartney look for next week?

I count six trip reports from Silas this month and it's only the 15th!  What's the all-time record for trip reports in August?

Being that reports were combined July/August 2005 and prior, August 2010 has the most at 45 trip reports.  As far as most trip reports by one person, don't know.
Good to see you back at it!  How did the shoulder hold up?
We did Mount Stuart this weekend via the West Ridge and saw your tracks as we rounded the lake.  Nice work!

Slush Cup pond? Maybe next year!

from Chuck's first pic it looks like continuous snow down Bundy's. Unbelievable.
You're gonna wear out those TLT 5P's before winter . . .
August turns at Snoqualmie Pass....what a crazy snowpack this year!
good to meet you too JPH!
I like the Snow Lake view
almost time to go swimming!

didn't get any great pics, but here's what I got -

no skis for me, was coming off Chair Peak per foot, but did get in some turns -
3rd picture ,those tracks that stand proud are mine.
Thanks for letting me tag along Silas.  Here's some of my (admittedly lame pics).
Skied from Coleman-Deming saddle on Saturday. Similar findings on the Coleman, smooth down to 8000', then suncups and runnels down to our ski-boot transition at ~6000'. A few obvious and avoidable crevasses on the route, one does requires some narrow bridge negotiating. One other party of snow-riders on the route ahead of us, lots of climbing parties at various stages of ascent/descent.

The debris pile from the large serac fall from the shoulder of Colfax onto the upper Cole...
Looks really nice Amar!  You've convinced me that I really need to get out of the southern Willamette Valley and come up and explore the south side of Baker!
After a big barbecue bonfire party on the beach at Golden Gardens on Friday night, well-attended by many TAYers, Kyle Miller was the only one willing to join me, waking up at 4:30am the next morning to head for the snow. T

Can't imagine why. ;) Glad to hear you guys made it happen!
We were having lunch skiers right of the snowfield when that happened I was in so much awe I couldnt grab the camera in time. I'm glad someone got some footage!  Oh yeah second on the zoo. Snow at 1pm was meh but views and fireworks were awesome.
Nice!  The Fryingpan area via Goat Cirque is beautiful!
The last picture. !! It's like you're in a national park or something.
Nice to live in a place where you can resume riding in August after 6 months off. Get your warmup runs in before the snow falls again.
Jimmy and I skied up to rocks at 7600' above Cowlitz Rocks from 4th crossing yesterday.  Be careful with the runnels on gentler terrain, we ran into a guy who'd broken a ski going across one.  Steeper slopes were good.  Saw just 6 people beyond the top of Mazama Ridge.  Car to car on snow the whole way in August!
Thanks for sharing.  I love the second pic.
Nice!  Love the photo from across the valley too.
- another Epic, nice work !
- yaa, thanks for your info fairly recently, of posting pics. now I have to do it. - ride on B/C patrol.  cheers
Great idea Stefan, I'll put a little sticky post together later today.

BTW...your summit photo is not displaying the latest trends in descent couture.   ;)

yeah, but they look... warm
sounds nice!

My next mission is to figure out how to post pics.

ha!  how many times have I read this line in TRs this year alone?  the ump-a-umpteenth time...  and still no readily available sticky about "how to post pics on TAY" probably saves too much time...
This summer the Roman Wall is the Old Faithful of N.W. skiing.  It keeps on giving...week after week.  Great TR and congrats on a successful outing.

BTW...your summit photo is not displaying the latest trends in descent couture.  ;)
Yeah, Monday I watched a group of 5 bc skiers/borders tramp right through that patch instead of taking a 100-foot detour and staying on the snow  :'(
Good one, Thanks for sharing!!!
Good one....Thanks for sharing.. My brother Andy and Dan H skied it last year sometime in August..My brother made a little you tube video of the descent.(For some info)

Still good..Amazing..

Love the flower shot!
Thanks for the great report.  3000' vert. making me think that a drive north might be worth the drive up from central Or.
I'm with Telemack, Zap, and the rest.   This is the balls, man...  git 'er done and keep us informed

hell, i knew him before he was famous...
