Good ascent and pix.  What is that fuzzy white thing behind those beautiful flowers?  :)
Hey runcle, have you been up to Deer Park since your TR?  Would Maiden Peak be a good spot in 3 weeks?  I know it's a stretch, but it is the big-snow summer of 2011.... 8)
This is tip-top ski mountaineering creativity.  The best folks find a way to do something creative, whatever skill level they are.
I would love to see an article on Cem's outings in Backcountry, or wherever.  Play up the freeheel angle!  And get an editor/translator.    :D  No shit, man, this is the USA, where people speak English as a Second Language with no first language.
I'd say the dogs are having the best outing, but they would, wou...
Fantastic!  One of my favorites. How would you rate the Headlee ascent for danger factor for beginner hikers with a ski pole for example?  The fall line is a little off and some friends are contemplating a "hike" there.
Thanks for the report.  On my list for August turns.

Good thing Mike skateboarded as a kid, allowing him to ride the slab to flat bottom.
Looks amazing out there. Nice!
Imagine the uproar in the states - horses postholing.  Where are their snowboards?!?

Cem..  the skis on the horse postholing to turns are the best adventure pics I've seen all summer.  thanks for posting.

Skiers without borders indeed!
That double shot espresso needed two handles!  Awesome trip.
I helped groom the Chute today  ;D
Didn't start down til 6:30 PM. Still a lot of walkers on snowfield but not that many skiers.
That cloud layer enveloping Paradise got pretty thick, only 100 feet viz at times. But busted out of it well before Pan Point.
Snowfield above the Chutes seems to be getting raised tracks / bumps, but so long as the snow is soft the ride is bumpy but still fun.
Drove up via Stevens Canyon. The flowers alongside the road near Bench Lake are...

August turns: check! And 8th year anniversary of turns every month!

Excellent stuff.
How come so many of our TAY anniversaries occur in August or September?  ::)
Fun time on the Mountain. Thanks! :).
Whoa - heel well! ;). Too bad we didn't see you up there!

How is the crevasse situation on the Paradise?

There are some open crevasses, but not too many. I saw sagging in a few spots. Overall, I thought the crevasse situation was very managable. Since I was alone I took a conservative route sticking to less steep slopes and avoiding sharp rollovers. Curious what the other party thought about the glacier since they took a...
Nice to meet you up there, Silas.  Conditions are surprisingly good for August.  The entry is wide, runnels in the chute are smaller than usual.  Should be nice skiing there for at least another week or two.  We went to the far take-out from the nisqually valley and had just a short uphill ski to get out (that sticky snow down low is good for something).
Nice tour & good TR.
If you survived to post then they must have taught you pretty well!
How is the crevasse situation on the Paradise?
The one trip we took to the area (I think August of 2004 or so) will permanently be etched in our memories.  Nobody accesses the amazing backcountry around these areas.  We'll never forget cruising the (for  the Baker folks' reference) three to four times the length of typical Coleman Pinnacle laps each run and getting to the bottom and just looking at each other, trancelike, and saying, "ooh....sparkly."  We may think we live in a volcanic place here in t...
To keep the Type 1 fun of skiing the SW chutes Type 1 including with the use of the retrospectoscope, my good friend Mike Cohen likes to repeat the mantra "I love skiing" as we suffer out the Round the Mountain dirttrudgefest and the drive back to Bellingham.  Adds the Type 2 permanence to the type 1 fun.
So it's not like you Traslins have any shortage of terrain in the winter - but to echo the "Glacier local" in terms of perspective, look at your second picture, and imagine that rockband turned into a panorama of gullies that go.  The downside is navigating the massive avy debris piles (on a good day) which are a shooting gallery with you in their sites on a bad day.  But a fantastic high pressure objective late winter for those willing to skin - like y'all.
with peeps like these  :)
Kenji, no NTN on Adams?  I've been liking mine for summer skiing.  I have had the duckbills out a few times too.
What a great TR!  The whole idea of taking a horse to start your ski adventure is amazing.

Dr. Telemark
brilliant! Tolhuaca is certainly one of the most interesting of the southern volcanoes. Can't wait to read more reports from you.

a
love the adventure!!

Malacahuello is a nicer place to stay than Curacartin. Curacartin is a just small town but it is very close to this 3 volcano . Privit room with breakfast start from 16$ at Curacartin

Malacahuello and Lonquimay are very nice beautiful mountain village.  SuizaAndina is a nice hotel with very nice camp ground 2 km to Malacahuello but it is too far for this 3 trip .
SuizaAndina camp ground 12$ a night.
Right on Phil. Way to get on a classic.
A classic variation to what may be the greatest single summer ski line in North America.
Nice work Jessie and Kyle.
Sweet.
A classic adventure.

Shipskin works very well. You can use both side ,when  it is cold it is better than any company product and it cost 20 $

I bet! Love your Tr's= true adventure!
I never did acquire a taste for matte.

Yeah, the sheepskin chaps caught my eye.

When Jill and I toured at Volcan Lonquimay, we were able to drive to the base of the closed ski area and begin skinning there.  I remember a ski area security person starting to tell us we were not allowed there until he realized we were a couple of crazy, old Amereicans and just shook his head.  It's a great ski.

The road to Volcan LLaima was rather rough during our visit.  Un...
Well, I didn't count exactly how many actual steps on dirt it was, Zap.  Perhaps I've developed some kind of selective amnesia in order to better turn Type 2 into Type 1 fun.
Kenji, I noticed you put your pant legs "on" for the descent.  Were the corn crystals flying "up".  ;)

Nice day on the mountain.
Great to see that you had a wonderful day for your first SW Chute descent.  Did you say walk on "dirt" 5 or 6 times.  ;)

Yes Mt Ruth is beautiful....

For sure a lesson learned on the snow bridge! If you could beleive my brother who is a bigger guy went first. I landed on two feet in a squat position..(I rode the bridge like a giant skateboard) Or that is what Andy said it looked like.

Cem,

Fantastic. I'm really pleased  that you have posted some of the photos of your trip.  I remember our discussion last year before your trip and your plans.

Your adventure certainly captures the spirit of "Earn Your Turns".

Your trip would find a lot of interest in Backcountry, Outside,... magazines.

We would enjoy more postings of yo...
Sheepskin chaps and tele boots= brilliant.

North face is looking good.  Thanks.
We've all pictured "dropping in" like that!
We had a nice day for the climb with great views and a cool breeze.

The SW Chute was in great shape, although we did encounter some soft runnels toward the bottom.

With tired quads, we took a break and enjoyed the vie...
Wow -- Ruth is still looking incredible!  Thanks for the TR.  Glad you made it the rest of the way back to town without incident :)
Thank you!

Hoping to get up there soon.

Looks like good times.....
Awesome! Thanks for the great beta and info.
Been jonesing to ski the SW chutes for a couple weeks now but my partners keep bailing and reaching August has made me hesitant to pull the trigger for fear that the route now sucks....
But way to get your buddy Scott to the summit!
Cheers
I'm glad to see there is still lots o snow.  Thanks for the TR.  I hope to get up there soon.
That's a lot of work and joy you two! Wow. You guys were moving. Looks like we just missed each other on the ptarmigan.

Lowell, I'll have to read your article. Too bad about Tom. I have his North Cascades book here and I love to look at it.
I try to make my backcountry skiing trip remote area with native people. Bicycle and horses are the best way to reach the snow level and the cost of trip  is very low too. It takes more days to make a ski trip but you will have a great culture with local people.

sometimes there is not any bridge to cross a river so horses are perfect for mountain
