Sheepskin chaps and tele boots= brilliant.

North face is looking good.  Thanks.
We've all pictured "dropping in" like that!
We had a nice day for the climb with great views and a cool breeze.

The SW Chute was in great shape, although we did encounter some soft runnels toward the bottom.

With tired quads, we took a break and enjoyed the vie...
Wow -- Ruth is still looking incredible!  Thanks for the TR.  Glad you made it the rest of the way back to town without incident :)
Thank you!

Hoping to get up there soon.

Looks like good times.....
Awesome! Thanks for the great beta and info.
Been jonesing to ski the SW chutes for a couple weeks now but my partners keep bailing and reaching August has made me hesitant to pull the trigger for fear that the route now sucks....
But way to get your buddy Scott to the summit!
Cheers
I'm glad to see there is still lots o snow.  Thanks for the TR.  I hope to get up there soon.
That's a lot of work and joy you two! Wow. You guys were moving. Looks like we just missed each other on the ptarmigan.

Lowell, I'll have to read your article. Too bad about Tom. I have his North Cascades book here and I love to look at it.
I try to make my backcountry skiing trip remote area with native people. Bicycle and horses are the best way to reach the snow level and the cost of trip  is very low too. It takes more days to make a ski trip but you will have a great culture with local people.

sometimes there is not any bridge to cross a river so horses are perfect for mountain

This is ridiculously over the top awesome!   :) :) :)
Cem,

Fantastic. I'm really pleased  that you have posted some of the photos of your trip.  I remember our discussion last year before your trip and your plans.

Your adventure certainly captures the spirit of "Earn Your Turns".

Your trip would find a lot of interest in Backcountry, Outside,... magazines.

We would enjoy more postings of your trip.   ;)  Zap

your shot compared to mine on essentially the same date, different year... Amazing.
Dig the parking lot shot.
Awesome!  The "horse with bicycle" picture is the logical progression from the "horse with skis" photos.
Brilliant. Keep 'em coming.
Thanks for the report.

Great area and great year to explore it on skis.  I was there with my skis on 8/1/2009 and it looked very different:

How do they feel about speedos and bikinis on the slopes?

Keep the reports coming, thanks Drew.

Rockin' pictures, Cassman.
And a seemingly appropriate assemblage of torture points for the crowd with which you seem to associate  ;)
The "Parking Lot" photo reminds me of a few ski areas in Argentina and Chile. Keep the reports coming.
What is Cohen doing behind Oyvind in that one picture, and why does it look like he has a chubby?
Keep 'em coming buddy....

It's amazing what nubile young women can persuade normally sensible middle aged men to do.

Hey Pal, Who you calling sensible?
Charles is back! And with reinforcements from the next generation- an enlightened person who discerns the value of "doing turns."

Good show!
Yeah Drew, go champ!

I was hoping to tack a day at Arpa on the end of my Portillo trip. Looks great if still a bit bony. Here's hoping for snow for both you and I.

excellent Charles, nothing like father and son having fun camping and skiing together !

Yep (or father and daughter - I used to do trips with my daughter until she lost interest, but she was amazingly impervious to the cold)

Nice Charles!

Knowing Adrian, I have no doubt he'll excel at skiing if he wants to. This sure is a fun age.
More of a climbing question,  has anyone seen the Lava Glacier headwall?  does it look in for a climb?

We arrive in Santiago, Chile on August 18th and depart August 25th.  This will be our third trip down there and we plan on following the snow.  We hope to spend most of our time in Las Lenas if the conditions allow for the Marte to be open.

PM me and let me know if you thing our paths might cross.

Looks like a heuristic trap to me......... albeit a fun one. ;)
;D

Love it y'all. Great idea Steph....
I hope Adrian has inherited your subtle sense of humor along with your taste in minimalist gear, Charles!  Sounds like a great mid-summer tour, with just enough unknown/unknowable so that you both got to share in the sense of discovery.  Imagine how boring it could be if everything was just as you knew it to be from previous trips.

best,

Mark

Wow, speechless!  Almost makes my frequent trips to the beach seem mundane now!
Way to rock Baykerwatch, everyone.
This is the best post I've seen in a long time. Too bad I don't have any sunburns left!
So many hot exposed bodies undoubtedly increased the rate of glacier recession!  I really had no idea how big I would be missing out on this one!
Oh I have a great picture of Oyvind skiing off the summit with Tim looking at him with disbelief, but not sure I can post it?? Front side picture of the girls this time, ha. Not only did the group look good, we had some awesome rippers to boot. Next year, mountain to be determined, but the outfit of choice can be discussed. I was thinking lingerie or pasties for the girls!! We have to top this year some how!!
Peter and I had just skied off the top and were taking a water break at the 9,000’ saddle when the bikinis and briefs came into view. What a brilliant/ ridiculous event! It completely eclipsed (and mocked?) anything else that was happening on the mountain on Saturday – especially the many, many rope teams slogging it up to the summit. Snow and route conditions? Both good but really inconsequential compared to the bikini event. What a great show!
Oh Gregg, there are photos of Oyvind's exposure, but I assume the moderators would disapprove--

Nooooooo! I almost skied Baker this day, how could i have missed this?!?

This is awesome, exactly the stuff we need more of!

We truely gave meaning to the term "double takes".   More photos of this event are trickling in........

Alisa and Khahn on top prior to setting out.  We did a lot of laughing....
