this was definitely summer skiing in style, and moon photos had nothing to do with celestial objects

Khahn's old friend Ron Jeremy showed up, who would have thought he was a rippin' tele skier.

A truly ridiculous descent of Baker. Thanks to Team Speedo/Bikini for a hilarious time. You all Rock!!
A truly styling descent on an awesome day! From 2/3 of the way up the Roman Wall, this was exactly the right encouragement needed to push the rest of the way. I tried to get some pix in a hurry, but they are baked with the bright snow. Hopefully you got some really good ones. Great seeing you all on a big ski party day.
Nice report.
Tks for the conditions pics.

Yeah, you definitely made a bad choice, and it was only like a 200' skin out. On a side note, my prediction of "the entrance should be pretty obvious" was right...if you're looking up the slope after skiing by it. :D
Drat and double drat! I should have stayed with you guys. A magic carpet ride to awesome land sounds pretty sweet. :) Great to meet you up there!

Hoped to find others on the Squak today but no, it was all mine.
That's because the party was on the CD side, with at least 14 skiers summitting.
Nice shots, D. Was about to pick up the phone to get you climbing. Have fun down there, and please do post more snowy tidings from the south...
- definitely an Ep Ic snowpack Zap. I think you know the drill. Virg lks typically opens mid April. Tioga used to typically open the end of April. But if it keeps snowin (even just a couple inches) they'll keep it closed. You know about all the spots by Bishop. So all we need in April is sun. I've been to Shasta enough that you never know what you'll get * cheeers mate- next yr
Nice to meet you Andy. Glad you got the chute in such great conditions. Some of the fastest smoothest turns I've made since my trip down to Shasta last month. I'll try to post some video sometime soon. Now I'm off to vantage for the Soundgarden concert 8)
Great to see that you are still enjoying the epic snowpack. Jill and I will return to Tahoe and The Sierra next season. We'll have to check with you before our next trip.

Condition is not great here In Bariloche area, Cerro catedral , Esquel La hoya. Cerro Catedral base snow level =0. cerro catedral ski resort is open but mid mountain to top skieble. I had a trip to Refugio Frey last weekend again. Not enough snow to make a good skiing now .But it is coming..We need one more storm.

Great story, Chris - glad you had such a good reunion with the solid water in the high places. Sounds like it was a cool, rugged trip for manly men.
Always like an enthusiastic TR. Nice pics - interesting lens angles. :)
SO SO SEHK JON AND ERIC!!
There is a shit ton of rad gnargnar out there to be shredded!

Surprisingly reasonable indeed. I was a couple hours behind you and skipped the chute, but I agree this was amazingly good and lengthy skiing for this time of year. Lumpy in most places, but mostly good corn on the surface.
Crowds were moderate and it was easy to skin far from the climbers’ track for a feeling of isolation. Worth noting that the three dry sections of trail are fairly close together, so a single pack-carry is a good plan on the ascent, but three hand-carries made sens...

Pete- we sure are lucky to have all that great surf and snow so near to us, puts me in quite a quandry this time of year. To ski or to surf, that is the question... Also, hit me up with a pm if you ever need a surf partner.
Kenji- bummer our paths did not cross on this day, hopefully they will soon.
Stugie- thanks for the update on the trail out- it did seem pretty quick on the way in, but was nice to close the loop by taking knapsack out, imho.

- yaa/ Brewer Crk, NE side, or 'Hot-tun' is typically the last TH to open. And this side of the Mtn is sometimes referred to as the quieter side. I wasn't too stoked w/ the ski conditions, so I didnt say. The Fifth Season shop does a Mtn rpt at (530) 926-5555 ! And they're the ones that offer the inside terms. The Wintun Glacier is the east portion, and the Hotlum Gl. the west part. Their dividing ridge has skiing on both its sides, with most people skiing the Hotlum side, b...

No argument there. :)
Out of curiosity, which trailhead that was almost accessible did you go to---Brewer Creek?

Nice sunset photo, beautiful colors. Looking forward to more!
Keep the reports coming..... PNWBrit(Banned) and I will be in Portillo in September! Hoping for more and more snow.
Nice write buddy! Yeah, after slaying double overhead off the hurricane Beatrice swell in Baja, it's hard to beat. However, this trip was awesome! I always love heading up there. Not sure if the snow off Obs. Rock is going to hold, but there's a good ski line there that may have a boot pack and tracks... ::)

Great to see some reports from Chile. I'll never forget the curves on the road up to Valle Nevado ski area. Our last trip to Chile and Argentina was in 2007 and we have some great memories.
Will you be crossing over to Argentina during your visit ?

So I was wondering if I might learn some new gem of wisdom if I inquired as to why you went via the South Butte rather than west of the Crescent?
Ron, I'd love to let you in our secret, but being an Adams virgin (something always came up) I followed my partners. Perhaps Cor or Ellen will have words of wisdom when they come back from their backpack. Looking at a...

Hi Chris,
We saw your guys heading up to the bump on Sunday when we were having our 3rd lunch break on Russell. We continued up then skied all the way down to Seattle Park and contoured back eventually to Knapsack Pass. It was nice to tour around lower Echo, but added at least 2 more hours to a already long day.
Hope to ski with you again.

nice write-up.... i though it was funny how much my summer paralleled what you wrote...the past few weekends i've been doing the commute out to westport and this weekend Becky and I are heading to the Flett for some turns. we're very fortunate to have good surf and snow so close together.
WOW--that looks great! Guess I'm not afterall...
Thanks for the great pics and VID!

Nice rendition on a classic trip. Great Photos, too.
I notice a lot of the climber types tend to favor the South Butte route to the Lunchcounter (and I think the Rangers often recommend that route for fear that one might fall in a glide crack on the Crescent).
I tend to prefer skinning up the old trail route on the ridge west of the Crescent Glacier, as it seems many of the other skiers do.

Low clouds all day but it did not rain. The cups on north facing slopes are getting bigger and firmer so we only did a couple laps. South facing slopes on Mt Herman were dirty and runelled so we skipped them. Maybe a group effort sideslipping is necessary to make for more fun skiing?
Maybe take a couple of months off and do something else and wait for the coming...
Snitter, you might have had a better line then us. Normally what goes is a subridge to the east of the drainage. also the safest route in winter. I'm feeling like sharing because others shared to me and next winter I'll be getting after it midweek.
I posted a few more of Eric's pics (not finding my camera was a grave error), along with a couple of reflections about the trip, at nwhikers: http://www.nwhikers.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7992585.
To repeat, someone's gotta describe how beautifully Eric styled the NF of Sinister. Watching from the Chikamin glacier below, my stomach did a backflip as he jumped the E side of the large crack that bisects the NF snow. Then he huffed up the Chikamin to catch me near the Dome-...

Out of curiosity, where did you guys exit at (if it is not a secret...)? I was up at Foss for the first time on the 26th (via the castle), and found quite the adventure getting out.
I skied down north-northwest and tried to find a safe way though. But I ultimately hiked back up towards Foss and found a strip to exit out of almost due north from point 6058' (by the lake E of Foss) at about 5200' in between horizontal rock bands. Lots of fun in that area!

Thanks for the report Gary. I may hit this area tomorrow Thu if the weather looks clear.
FYI I've done two trips up Klahanie and have been super impressed at the vertical and the terrain on the N. Side. Furthermore, there seem to be multiple inviting high angle chutes to the east.
Snow conditions were amazing on July4, when I recorded this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuxAjBhgBj4. It froze so solid that AM (at only 4K feet!) I had a heck of a time booting up...

Pot holes are worse on the first half of the road, up to the bridge, and the road is rougher and rockier after that, but no big obstacles. Just need to go slow and it's a long 12ish miles.
Sorry about all the errors in the first paragraph..no I did not review..water under that bridge..
Just to confirm EVERY THING that Amar reports (not that there was ever any doubt though..) the skiing on said route is absolutely phenomenal. After my supper windy bivy and then the same down hill in- my- face
Skin to 12500' (I hate booting, even if it is faster..) I made the traverse over to the wintun and booted aspects. About 1200 I notice a could down below over the hotlum snowfield so that was clue enough and I was skiing off the top by 12:15.
