This has  been done rarely . It's not about the skiing but about accessing unbelievable terrain on skis . You might have seen James Hammakers inquiry for partners here. First he had to find partners ,and partners who were not only competent but flexible in thier timing and availability. That would be hard enough but then they had do the deed and return safely.
I'm liking the smile on their faces. Good Job !
Bravo, bravo!

This TR made my day, this is the mountain travel I dream about.  Thanks for sharing.
For sure, fun trip and nice to meet everyone.  I'll save this spot for pics.--Jason
Strong work.  Looks like you climbed from Mazama Ridge?  Any holes opening up on the lower Glacier?
That was a terrific day on the mountain. It was a pleasure to meet and ski with a new big happy lot of folks on a new (for me) route. That was the first time I had been on Adams in such warm conditions, even the summit was easy to skin up.

Thanks Becky and Pete for carrying a rope.

A couple of things to add to the myth of Amar - he left hours after us and still caught us on pikers peak, expertly showed us the entrance and hazards on the White Salmon, and then guided us lit...
man, T P.    maybe put Shasta on your list. * there's not as many crevasses to lose your ski in !

Go N. from the Sunrise parking lot; that's Sourdough ridge and the Northfacing chutes go down from there. The longer ones are E along the ridge; then there's Fear Factor too. They're not huDgely long, but jeez, it's July 10 and they're fun. Go along the Sourdough Ridge E and scoot up Dege for a great ski.

Bruce said it better than I eve...
Nice work Rob and Mike working through the gear issues to still complete your objectives!

Maybe time to think about getting some tele gear if you want to avoid equipment malfunctions.  That dynafiddle stuff still needs some kinks work out, it has been only out for a little over two decades.  I think I have only heard of one, maybe two, possibly three times that anyone has ever had a telemark gear breakage problem...

OK Rob, time to put the summer wax on those boar...
Great trip!  I fixed the URL for you video -- good stuff, thanks for sharing it.
Impressive tour, guys.
Most likely one that will be permanently etched in your memory for the rest of your life.

a few pictures -if I am lucky
Nice! It was so great to meet and ski with you guys! Oh and Jim = Pete, just fyi. :)
Great pics Jim!
Shred just can't keep his skis on the ground ;)
where exactly are the sourdough chutes? I went up yesterday and climbed uphill from the parking lot to the ridge. On the other side were some short chutes that were much shorter than I imagined. We ended up climbing the burroughs mountains in search of these mythical chutes (lost our map) and ended up dropping into glacier basin from there. (that was a fun adventure and a good ski)

Don't do it. You'll never have spending money again :)

Yep he's right Julie...don't do it. Just bought my 4th pair of DPS skis( a pair of  Pure Yvettes for my wife).... it becomes an obsession. :'(
You can demo dps with dynafit at Pro Ski... tho they are closed for the summer

I should add that the "bear left" on the road note is for the first turn you encounter, There are a few more forks between there and that upper logging platform and I haven't memorized them all so can't give blow-by-blow, but I think it works fine if you keep choosing the more uphill options. You do end up doing a slightly annoying bit of traversing back and forth on long road switchbacks but it's over pretty quickly. And the view is pretty nice for a road through an old...

There are two competing theories.

One: park by the PCT, walk the trail until it crosses first creek, head up through woods toward basins.

Two: drive over pass and bear left (uphill) on road and drive until you can't drive any more (road end in upper clearcut, or perhaps you don't want to drive over the berm/ditch or else the snow pile you see in front of you) and walk up to the upper logging landing and head into whichever lobe of the basin your prefer from there...
I deliberately didn't climb to the entrance of the Chutes, so that I could not be tempted away from my foolish Burroughs deathmarch by the Chutes' easy virtues ... so don't have any beta from Sunday. Other reports might have more recent. I did ski a couple of them all east of Antler on the 4th, were good and not all that cuppy (max inch deep?), but that is old info now.

Was quiet up there yesterday. [...] The snow had melted a fair bit in just the two days since Friday, but there was still plenty of cover for folks looking for turns up in the basins, with not a terrible walk required to get there.

I made a failed attempt to get up there this eve, but ran out of time after too much route-finding and a longer-than-expected walk from th...
Thanks for the report! How did the Sourdough Chutes look? Cups or corn? :)
For anyone looking to get out via cold springs (as opposed to skiing the smoosh back out to Morrison) there's a pretty solid skin track that contours at 7200 ft. We popped out right on top of the crescent glacier. A painless return after an amazing ski! The chutes are smoooooooth!
Lowell - Mike and I saw that you'd signed out about 15 minutes before we arrived at the Ranger station on our way in and were sorry to have missed you.  We were impressed with your early time out and figured you'd done a solo one day trip in that time!  Awesome trip report, and super special to do that with your son.

You also taught me something very important with the way you responded to an obnoxious post about your risk taking, which frankly was a very reasonabl...
thread drift… Too many close relations have died in too many ways, in the mountains, in the water and other. I know that's true for many of you -- many condolences given every year on this site. Nice run!  We of the round the hill crew stared for hours on Sunday to try to see your tracks but were never sure.  We guessed left wich is where it sounds you skied.  After a couple days of no tracks it was nice to follow yours for a while on Sunday.
it was good to see you and Tom in the parking lot Lowell.  Stellar effort Tom, congratulations again !
Lowell--

This post is most excellent.  It gives me a lot to look forward to and much to think about in preparing my own kids (2 girls, 2 boys) for ski touring and mountaineering.  I have to admit that everything I am doing now is to stay in shape and improve my own skill and judgment so I can coach them safely.  I also have to admit that I have had the very debate you mention:  should I teach my kids how to ski and climb and accept the risk that I could lose one of...
Wow... What a great year.  I'm amazed at how long the snow is staying around.  Thanks for the excellent pictures.
Sweet Mike!  Glad you're digging the TTS.  Sounds like you've got a fantastic summer setup.
That is a cool shot with the topo map held up in front of the matching tarn.
Added a few more pics of the descent from the peak and the chutes. Nothing quite like 6K of turns!

Sweet route. I wish that I could have joined ya!
Sorry for sounding 'obnoxious', that wasn't my intent, nor is who I am. Thank you Pete_H for the PM containing info on who Lowell Skoog actually is. Sounds like quite the badass and he does have class. Bottom line is that Lowell and I agree upon the fact that not planning to rely on others for rescue is a good thing. Best wishes to those climbing this season.
If you have actually practiced pulling someone out of a crevasse (even with a Z), you may have legitimate doubts about self rescue.
I have to say, that's a very classy response, Lowell, to a rather obnoxious example of internet armchair quarterbacking.

Bakershredda - You are right that you have no idea who Lowell is.
Snow down to the parking lot is still in, but a couple of thin creek crossings to watch out for down low. Jeff preferred the short brush bash (I think he found something of a trail back to the car on our second day), while Eric & I skied another couple hundred feet down to the hairpin turn and climbed short steep dirt back to the road. Anywhichway it sure beats walking the trail!

I was taught to never rely on other parties to come to my rescue.

It sounds like you've been taught well. That's what I've been taught too. I believe in self-reliance as a goal, but I think it's pretty rare that we actually achieve it. Think, for example, about a mountain guide leading an inexperienced client. Can the guide rely on the cl...
Thanks Leyland,
I'm still as excited about the dream set-up as I was in the beginning.  TTS bindings, F1 boots, and 160cm Voile Vector BC's.  No skins on most summer trips (including this one).  My pack weighed 30# with skis, boots and poles packed.  Its easy to carry, I love how it skis, I like walking in the boots, Crampons on the F1s are easy (compared to duck bill), and the short skis are better for ducking brush than full length skis.

We were just a party of two, and we were relying in part on the presence of nearby parties for our safety. There's no denying that. Based on my experience I think it was a reasonable bet.

I was taught to never rely on other parties to come to my rescue. What you've said suggests that you are not confident in your skills or the people in your group....
