Hurray for creative summer skiing.
Bet you had it to yourself.

Hey Silas (AKA Mick), It was great to ski with you last Friday! So, how many pairs of shorts do you stuff in your pack for a day of skiing? Inquiring mind(s) want to know...
We will be up skiing the Paradise Glacier tomorrow - hope to see you!

Hiked up to 7,600' on Wednesday evening with my adult son Casey. It was a beautiful warm and clear evening. Carrying camping gear was tough, but the chance to start from halfway up the next morning was worth it. The evening and morning light was also nice for the pictures. We had good skinning conditions the next day, and partial cloud cover kept it from getting too hot. The ski down was...
Still great skiing. Thanks Silas and team TLT5p, its been a hoot!! Now I think its time to get back on the bike.
Some photos of the past few days.

I love that area....such a beautiful place to get summer turns! I've only been there once, but need to plan a return trip for sure!
Glad I could be there representing the poor old non-TLT5ers. More approach walking every day, but well worth it. My TR on NWH.
Nice work, Silas.
And taking care of us at the trailhead. ;)

Love the summit shot of you all! Sounds like it was a great trip. Love the bikini ski too. The only one in his bikini was Silas on our trip last month. I wore my sports bra but was not about to ski in my undies.
Amar must have at least been in shorts...no? Great to see you up here visiting Steph! Would have loved to see Lander galloping behind you in a photo. I gather he was relegated to stay home with Dave.

Wow, You are really livin' it up! I hope you've left some snow for me up there :)
I'm surprised I haven't seen an updated report for Glacier Peak in a while. I hiked in that area last weekend and saw seven skiers (in different groups). Conditions look pretty good, but a lot of the lower stuff is melted. The section between White Pass and the ridge connected to White Mountain is too broken up to ski. You might be able to ski the other side of Red Pass, but who knows how much has melted. Doing so will probably mean some additional elevation gain, but you would be on s...
My buddies and I put in the first turns on that chute! The turns were fun, a little sun-cupped though. It got a lot better on our second lap. The pond skim was by far the highlight of the day. People were going huge, throwing 3's and backflips on the kicker at the end of the pond skim.

The road is so smooth we could walk or jog it barefoot back to retrieve the cars.
Day before, I kept my socks on but carried my boots. Much nicer way to end the trip.
Stoked.. I gotta get up there for some easy pickens!

An attempt to smooth this line out was made the day before. The conditions were similar both Sunday and Monday but a little more icy due to lack of sun on Monday. I'm guessing a few more days at most and Grandma's might be done with.

Good idea with the bike shuttle! Gave me the thought - If I brought four bikes, I could get four laps without having to ferry the bike back down over and over! Laziness is the mother of invention.
Awesome! I may have to go back for round two. Thanks for keeping the stoke up.
Good on ya Sam! Wish I could have joined, but I'm stuck in this office. I hope to someday have as many months of TAY as you, I've got August, September and October to go for my first one-year TAY.
keep gettin' some!
keep gettin' some!
I went up to Camp Muir last Friday and observed two clear signs of a late melt out around Paradise: Abundant avalanche lilies, and not one person asking, "Is there snow up there?" (Give em a couple weeks.)
I would like a t-shirt that says: "YES! I have been or am going skiing. YES! there is snow up there. YES! the snow was or will be fine."
Kudos on your streak. And your optimism and fortitude for hitting those paved trails in ski boots. It still sounds...

Funny. My favorite question at Paradise: "Is that oxygen?" from a little lady dolled up with purplish red hair, fresh off one of those senior citizen tour buses. She was pointing at my camelback tube.
amazing, I think i'd be speachless. I confess though, I have wondered what the weight to benefit ratio on oxygen is, could you make a super fast (if...
Way to keep the streak alive, Sam.
I think my most frequent tourist question while packing skis and a day pack is "did you ski from the top".
After disappointing so many by describing the particular local I line skied, any more I just answer "sure", and they're all joyous :)
Anytime you're looking for a quick steer to skiable snow with the least amount hiking around Paradise, just drop me a line. That's one of my regular haunts.

Favorite questions of the day:
"Going skiing?"
"Are those special bindings?
"Where are you going to go skiing?!"

dbe- indeed, it was 3 creeks! Couldn't have had a better place to stop after a long weekend on the mountain.
We did the same thing a few days earlier. We ended up hiking the "trail" from the visitor center so the skiing didn't start until above Pebble Creek. On the way down once we got past the rock steps below Pebble Creek, we just "stayed skiers right" and nearly skied down to the parking lot. We found no corn.

"Are those special bindings?
"Where are you going to go skiing?!"
At least the answer to two of these three questions is a simple "yes".
Stellar report & pics. Thanks for the 10 minute vicarious escape from the slow cubicle death.

Y'all are hot. But I don't see any skin shots of you Amar. Pourquoi?
This has to be one of the all time great Baker/Washington/TAY photos. Way to put the bass in your walk Covergirl! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ApINqp5ZIj4
Will freezing levels ever be high enough to tempt Amar to shed some layers? That remains to be seen.

Very nice day! Thanks for Don and Fred for route finding in the fog on the lower glacier. That was a very long crack at 8000 feet. A few pictures at http://www.flickr.com/photos/koelle/ will be up a little later.
inspirational! Love it. Bravo for your daughter, and Bravo for water appreciation.
Nice line! I was scoping that one out myself. I wasn't able to get the whole thing because I had to head back to camp with my group to pack up. I am glad that somebody got it though!
you ski more in the summer than you do in the winter >:(
Astute choice of skiing partners, Amar - a few miles further south we were treated to this wild Spandex sighting . . .

James, yes you are right, I need a 12 step program fast! I even thought of tagging along with Hollywood on Olympus--a definite sign of sickness. No I am not skiing Anderson.
Hi Barbara, that was a fun day at Rainier. I may go back. I wonder if Silas is still down there holding court? Iron Mike took those pix and he is very good. Hope we can ski together again soon.

I am so sad to have missed out! But I love seeing all the pics with tennis skirts and bikinis! You girls rock! We should do this on every trip!!
I couldn't agree with you more Khanh, especially during the winter.

Art, are you bringing skis to the Anderson Gl. this wk-end?
Hmm. I can picture you considering it - you *nut*.
I wouldn't even *if* I got sponsored skis from dps and fitted my bike w/ ski quivers.

Nice! I'm hoping Adams is simalarly still in shape this wk-end. Anyone interested in two or three nights on Adams Aug. 4-7?
Awesome line in your second-to-last photo! Smooth, tasty, just the right angle, and you end up right next to the car. ::)

- kicka, you sure get it done (for a new schooler). where did you build a kicker ? I think it stayed good due to the wet snow that fell through June. I caught some fresh corn during the solstice period. *nice rpt.
Haha, thanks. Ya, kickers in the Pow only. It's gotta be soft the older you get... Thanks for the kind words :)

There were people tenting right beside the parking lot, hilarious! By the mid afternoon oriental touists were poking around their campsite, lifting up pots and stuff like it was some stone age exhibit.
From sun cups to slush cup!

I remember the first time I kicked steps in front of my dad. He still talks fondly (and sadly) of that transition. A rite of passage that has lasting effect. Glad to hear the skiing is still good up there. Looked like maybe the skis you are carrying are S7's? No wonder Ben was faster, those are heavy!
Enjoyed this post, as CSN&Y would say, "Teach the children well."
Cheers to you both, I am now stepping in my grandsons steps.

Your song rocks man...don't let anybody tell you different. I often mutter similar yet less eloquent rhymes while shaking off the concrete, in search of the blissful hiss of corn under my edges.
Berg Heil mein Freund!

I was up there 2 weekends ago. Clouds were in so visibility sucked, only skied the headwall and spray park..
I bet spray park is melted out by now, Flett headwall is probably fun. But if I was heading up there I would focus on the russel glacier.
