Aussie Couloirs lookin good! Nice pics.
I know! (Check out the photo title :)).
It's a close up, but he is big enough to ride, for sure. You'd have to be resigned to going wherever he wants to go though, and God forbid he sees a squirrel!
The whole week?! Sorry, dude...
Ed, your dog looks like the Sphinx!  Is that a close up, or can you
ride him?
Nice one, Jim. We were just up the road and had a great day as well. Even kept my breakfast down, more than I can say for last week!

For a old flabby guy you can definately let the ski's rip.  It was fun skiing up on McCue Ridge with you, next time you decide on new lines through the trees I won't be grumpy

Don
Nice choice for the afternoon.  You may have run into 'Noogs and me on our way out.
He makes quite an impression:

it was cool to see the photo after hearing you describe that line.  did you shoot that on the way out?  it seems like it was taken from up pretty high.

and the trip report wouldn't be complete without a picture of dinner...  thanks for the inspiration on my new favorite cut of pork!

Yay Doug!! A rooster tail is way better
than doing it cold turkey! Nice.
Strong day-trip push  8)
I'm sure the Alecapone Lodge would get done if Scott had some day-laborers to help, eh?

You haven't met my new puppy, Kololo(like the peak). Lucky is too old to tour anymore, and sadly, I had to let go of Yana.
She loves steeps, small drops and pow, but it was a little too deep for her that day. when she was doing the doggy porpoise, she kept going below the snow.

Hi Scott,
Sorry to hear about Yana.  My Anna is getting old but stil...
i'm happy to report that Doug has graduated from rehab today

Hi Lisa,
I was looking longingly at Catherine from the top of the Silver runs today - it looked spectacular today.  Great pics.  Tell Kratsch hi!
Cornelius, were you folks the ones with dogs?

Great to see you too again Zap! Sorry to  hear you cannot drive for 6 months but best be safe and I know Jill is happy to drive you around and about.  ;)

I should have mentioned that the new snow had not bonded so the ~16 inches easily sloughed off the crust layer with our turns. The layer beneath was solid.
Thanks for the beta.
I would like to book a 3day weekend in mid Feb. Please. Do you require a damage deposit?  :)
Nice line Boys!
Great to see you and meet Dave and his dog and the photos.
looks like a great outing.  probably saw you up there.  buddy and i did laps, front/back, of hyak.  would have done catherine if we didn't have to be in town earlier  :)
ha,

not yet. the building materials just showed up.

I was jonesin for a hot cup of coffee too. Double latte gu's weren't cutting it.
Sweet! When does the lodge open?
nice work men!!

some of that looks a little familiar. ;)
True story. went to the doctor due to really bad allergies recently. he told me to try fresh pillows! Feeling great today!

Nice lisa!
cool icicles!
Call me spoiled....to each his own! ???  Good to see it's filled in.  Thanks for the beta...sorry you had to go through that to get it.
There is a 1 million step program for that, fresh.

Pass the needle.
That is a great video, just keep them coming.  Expert cast of characters, as well, nice turning, nice snow, nice music.  Thanks.

Thanks, I don't take the camera out often but it's fun when I do. Mountainconvert I film with a Sony HDR-HC1E. It's a few years old now but still takes good footage. A little lighter than a DSLR with a medium sized lens, but still on the heavy side.
This made my day.  Now I feel less crazy and normalized :)
I don't understand what the problem is?  Seems like you did it right, better than lapping West at least!

wow, awsome pillows...so envious
Agreed with Scotsman..
Seen lots of crazy stuff happen in there over the years.
Since your shorts were probably already filled after watching Scott's run. Probably don't need reminding that The slopes are rather inviting, but are filled with a plethora of problems for the unknowing. 1st being a terrain trap once you are in, there are very limited options to get out without exposure issues. Secondly that face gets a little bit more sun exposure and cross loading. For me there...

How did the dog do - was he with your group?  Hard to imagine a dog making it through the deep pillows.

Did the guy slipping off the log make it over with dry landing gear?  I would have been sideways in the creek, for sure.

kololo is scott's dog and has accompanied us on many adventures.  she kept up like a trooper all the way to the top as...
The dog charges pillow lines like a pro... I made it out with only a wet skin. I thought I should demonstrate my collapsed snow log crossing self rescue technique... ::)

Has a clip of cololo (the dog) charging
Still jealous; you had more fun than I did today. Thumbs up.
Doug, you are not alone! Knowing you have a problem
is half the battle!
nicely done Doug!  nothin' wrong with being a little too optimistic about what you'll find

Stugie?  Close call, buddy!  Glad you guys had a good time, and thankful for the safe outcome.
We were worried about that likely loading and choose to stay on the bullion basin side of the gap and ski the more wind facing face and rib above the lake. We dug a pit and did some low exposure runs first.

I know someone who was fully buried 25 years ago on the union creek side on a slope that had been skied right before by others.
I'd also considered the Slot as a destination for today. Thanks for confirming that sleeping in was the right choice!
The camp is at 5000', no rain crust, only powder on wind sheltered slopes, or hard chalk on open ones.
I was wondering if you got any pics of the log crossing...
Doug, A great adventure and you returned the way you left.   ;)
Ha – saw your pics on facebook too - looked nice.

I’m on sabbatical from work right now so if you ever have a last minute urge to get some pow and want another backcountry guy (and beacon) to tag along let me know. If you don’t already have it my phone # is on fb.

Thanks for posting about your trip.  That is a slope that I enjoy and I would have liked to have been there on Saturday.  I'd be interest in hearing more about what happened---and am curious as to details for the "second Jay being discovered by luck", etc.

Glad you all are unscathed!

Thanks, and sorry about the awkward phrasing there - should d...
Classic.  Could have been the subject of many a field report by the addicted.  Usually preceded by "How bad could it be?"
Exactly one week earlier this very same slope was being buffetted by 70mph gusts and a  very windy continuous 40mph breeze. We saw a ton of transport and in that area deposition of 6" of wind slab on a hard  crust that was not well bonded and pretty reactive. It went in my blue book as "hmmmm...". Seems it hasn't gone anywhere, and started to have more consequence with additional depth.
Refreshing video, thanks! Conversations this weekend included lamentations that it is often difficult to find someone willing to spend the extra time to shoot quality video or stills when there is deep pow to be skied. Good on ya!
